Pure White And Clear Black 3DS Colors Coming On October 10

By Spencer . September 23, 2013 . 11:14pm

New (kind of) Nintendo 3DS colors will debut in Japan on October 10. Pure White and Clear Black models will retail for 15,000 yen ($152).

You might recall that Nintendo recently discontinued the Cosmo Black and Ice White colors earlier this month. Pure White and Clear Black are probably replacements. Can you tell the difference between them?

    …No… No I can’t… o.o
    What IS the difference?

    • safeto20scroll

From what I can see the original cosmo black is a little more brown whilst the clear black has a more white tint

The ice white, like the name suggest is a little cool blue mix while the pure white is.. well pure white

well thats just my interpretation, ppl might see different :)

    • AdenMaer

Kind of looks like the new black is blacker and the new white is whiter… Um yeah that makes sense.

  • AndreasStalin

From the pictures it seems to be “more” white and “more” black. I like it.

    • komiko12

These colors are more preferable. If you’re gonna pick something black, might as well pick the blackest one. And the same goes for white. Those two colors look better the more “pure” they are.

  • Hours

The new ones look closer to a “true” black and white.

  • 3PointDecoupage

I kinda thought 3DS was discontinued in favor of the XL. I like the white though.

    • almostautumn

Thank goodness it wasn’t; the 3DSXL is substancially weaker than the original in a lot of merits.

      • 324234

Other than the speakers (which is like comparing which turd is smellier) and the slightly less crisp visuals, weaker how? Tons of upgrades.

        • CartmanKusanagi

The 3DS XL’s build quality seems a bit cheaper, at least to me.

  • Asura

    I like the originals more.

Still haven’t bought the system though, and it will be a 3DSXL when I do. I’m a huge pokefreak so I will probably give in then, but I’m going to try my hardest to hold out until US MH4.

Now if we got that golden trees-n-shit 3DSXL for the Pokemon release, oh man I would buy that in a heartbeat.

  • Odin

I have an Ice White model to compare. I think the differences lie in the casing. The original had a somewhat clear shell coating. This one is definitely more bare white.

  • Pockystix

    if I weren’t getting the Pokemon bundle. . .

  • ishyg

Black one looks more black (I have the other one and I can see the difference)

    White one is…what?!

  • Detrimont

    yaaaaay, fingerprints
i’m fine with my aqua blue

  • Linhua

    … FLUCK.

    … I didn’t wait long enough… @[email protected] … first Arcana Heart 3 and now THIS… x.x

  • SilentMC

I like how Nintendo is still sorta releasing new colours in japan for the original 3DS, I’d love to see the White hit other regions

  • ragingmerifes

They still haven’t abandoned the normal version for the XL version?
Good, I prefer the original anyway. :D

  • I want a Pure White 3DSXL, but for it to be actually all white. The inside upper half of the 3DS I mean as well.

    • 324234

XLs have non-black top inner screens. I own an LL which is all-white, I guess you could technically swap the top outer shell of a pink XL.

  • CirnoLakes

Every company should take lessons from Nintendo in terms of design.

Most electronics should have this kind of variety.

  • Kai2591

I wanted all white for my 3DS XL, but the (partly) Pink version is the closest there was…outside Japan, I mean.

this just seems so cheap on nintendo’s part…

  • ChirotheHiro

It looks like they just removed the gradient effect of the original colors for a more solid look.

  • Solomon_Kano

The difference is more readily spotted in the black, but I can kinda see it with the white one as well.

  • My Little endy

I was really excited that the “clear black” was a skeleton case, like they used to do with their handhelds back in the day (Acid purple all the way!) and I’m sad to see that isn’t.

Also, I can only see a real difference in the clear black v onyx black. Of course, that could just be how they edited the picture to make it look different.

  • .:Raphællius:.

I hope Nintendo never produced a batch of the black and white colors they first announced, and then cancelled.

  • I see the difference between Cosmo Black/Ice White and Clear Black/Pure White..
Clear Black and Pure White are completely solid colors. When folded, there’s absolutely no glitter/flaked metal appearance, or any transparency from the outer shell to the actual body of the unit, unlike all 2011/2012 3DS colors.

I personally find these colors to make the 3DS look far more bland and unappealing as far as hardware aesthetics are concerned. The first 3DS was the most different-looking piece of Nintendo hardware I have seen since the redesign from DS to DS Lite. But now with the 3DS XL and 2DS, Nintendo backtracked to the old, stale DS Lite/DSi/DSiXL/Wii design. :(
