Super Robot Taisen OG Dark Prison Brings More Another Mecha SRPG To PS3

Namco Bandai has a Super Robot Taisen fighting game spinoff called Super Robot Taisen OG Infinite Battle slated for release on November 28. If the idea of Gespenst Mk II tossing Fairlion Type S and then following up with an elbow drop doesn’t interest you check out Super Robot Taisen OG: Dark Prison.

Released first as a bonus with the limited edition of Infinite Battle, Super Robot Taisen OG: Dark Prison is a side story from The 2nd Super Robot Taisen with Shu Shirakawa as the protagonist and Selena Recital as a playable character.

Even though it’s a shame I probably won’t get OG Dark Pris… I mean Infinity Battle this November. Instead I will wait until only OG Dark Prison is released seperately and Infinity Battle drops in price, I’m not really financially avaible to buy this right now. Sorry Banpresto! :(

  • MrTyrant

S…S…S..SELENA!! what the hell are you doing there? OMG! now I must buy this game.
For those who don’t know, Selena is one of the main characters of SRW Alpha 3. You can choose her as your main character and enjoy her version of the story.

    Cobray Gordon WHEN!?

    • Lynx

OGs on the PS2 and the Divine Wars anime.

Wait, you thought I was kidding? :D

      • MrTyrant

        Oh you!

    • Tom_Phoenix

      “Cobray Gordon WHEN!?”

Maybe when Asakim shows up in the OGverse. Cobray’s cameo in OGs pretty much confirmed that the Cobray that will appear in OG will be the Alphaverse one rather than a new version of him (meaning we won’t see a repeat of his storyline from Alpha 3). Since he is a Time Diver now, chasing around one of the “cursed wanderers” across multiple dimensions would be a good excuse to include him.

      • MrTyrant

Asakim and Cobray had nothing to do each other. Cobray cameo in OG and Divine War was something so old that I was expecting he show up again in the inspector anime or OG gaiden/2nd but nothing and that made me doubt of his existence lol

Still I think they are just saving it for a main game since he had a key role in Alpha 3 plot.

        • Lynx

Tom actually makes a good point. OG hasn’t exactly been direct in adapting the Time Diver plot word for word.

Who’s to say Cobray hasn’t already gone through the whole Time Diver thing before, if he appears in OG and if they do Alpha 3 the same way?

        • Tom_Phoenix

Well, yeah, Asakim and Cobray don’t have anything to do with each other in their respective games. But keep in mind that the meta-plot of the OGverse involves the dimensional stability (or lack thereof) of the OGverse. Since Cobray is a Time Diver, that’s very much his concern. And since Asakim is one of the “cursed wanderers” that jump from dimension to dimension…

I’m not saying they will definitely be connected plot-wise, but they might, since Cobray’s Alpha 3 storyline won’t be covered.

      • Sardorim

Asakim may never as Z verse was made without the intention of going to OG verse I believe.

        • Tom_Phoenix

The statement was that Z wasn’t made with inclusion into the OGverse in mind. However, that’s not the same as saying that it won’t be included. And frankly, after some of the hints in OGs2, Z’s inclusion seems increasingly likely.

          • Sardorim

Eh, I don’t have my hopes up but I would love for Crowe to meet Kyosuke and Esther to meet Mai so they can bond over their love interests not noticing them.

    • Sardorim

Cobray may show up when we get to the final parts of @3. Maybe even in the next OG after this which should have J and W as additions with @3 story.

      • MrTyrant

I was thinking about Valkazar reemplacing Ideon. Keizer Elpes feared the power of Ideon and I think that Valkazard could fill that role being as overpower as it is.

  • Luke

Honestly if this came west I would buy it for Dark prison

  • KuroNathan

you know Bamco, at some point when you customize a gespent so much you can’t really keep calling it a gespent. I think when you give it a chest cannon and electro shockwaves it deserves a new name sort of like how the gespent mk IIIs became alt eisen and Weiss Ritter

    • https://twitter.com/RaiohV Raioh

Gespenst S already had the chest cannon and all that electric stuff isn’t exactly new either~

Brown is practically just a Gespenst with a Huckebein frame, while Selena’s is a mix of both, so it makes sense imo, the name doesn’t sound good at all but it makes sense lol~

    • Duo Maxwell

Those guys are from the novel though. They are mercenaries, and if you know about Selena’s back story, then you could probably guess what’s happened to that team.

    • Tom_Phoenix

A slight correction: only the Alt Eisen is the Gespenst Mk. III. The Weiss Ritter is just a heavily modified Mk. II.

In any case, those mechs have a special name because….well, they’re special mechs. They’re either one-of-a-kind or modified to the point that they hardly resemble the mechs they’re based on. In this case, the Mk. II Kais aren’t so different from the original that they warrant being called something else.

  • Michael Connell

Would be nice if this got localized

  • Kevin Schwarz

So I suppose WE ALL want Dark prison, but Infinity Battle on the other hand… so why are they releasing DP two months later? Is it to see if IB sells well or…are they adding extra content to DP?

    • Duo Maxwell

      Otherwise who would buy IB?

  • Tom_Phoenix

So this game is essentially OGs2 Special Disc with Super Robot Spirits 2 as a bonus. =P

One thing that I find really disappointing about this release is that Dark Prison doesn’t come on the disc itself; instead, it is a separate download code. Somehow, I seriously doubt Infinite Blade takes up even close to an entire Blu-Ray disc, so they could have included both games.

  • MrTyrant

I think the guy in the Gespent could be one of the members of Selena’ scuadron. Remember how the plot in Alpha 3 was, she was tryng to avenge them but we never knew who they were.

Also if she is fighting against Masou Kishin then she is traped like all the main characters in OG 2nd but I wonder why didn’t she join.

  • Sardorim

    Selena, nice.

Wanna see how she interacts with Calvina in the next OG game.
