Sega unveiled a Dengeki Bunko vs. Sega fighting game project at Tokyo Game Show, but it wasn’t playable there. Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax will be shown during the Dengeki Bunko 2013 Autumn Festival on October 6 and it will be playable. The event will take place in Akihabara UDX and Bellesalle Akihabara. Admission is free.

Shana from Shakugan no Shana and Asuna from Sword Art Online are the only two playable characters revealed so far. Durarara!!, s-CRY-ed, A Certain Magical Index, and Kino’s Journey are some of the other series under Dengeki Bunko’s umbrella. The game will have Sega characters in the roster too and I think Sakura Wars characters have a good chance of showing up in the game. Why? Dengeki Bunko and Sega collaborated before on a set of Sakura Wars light novels.

Oh wow most importantly on this day…will our Mahouka finally be revealed to be animated, Material Burst and other gram/nonsystematic attacks deserve to be animated. And he better be in the game please!

    • Kelohmello

I would /love/ to see Tatsuya or Miyuki in a game like this… preferrable Tatsuya because he uses guns and his ability feels a bit more intelligent and varied in usage. Miyuki’s flashy overwhelming kind of magic would also be really cool though.

Yeah Miyuki would be fun too especially if she can do her little flying thing and both the mind freeze and actual ice techniques. …so many characters in the series Id actually want in this since lots of the abilities are so varied.

  • AxionAzure

Looking forward to see more about this game.

  • echokanon

I hope there are chances for some light novel that did not get animated could also join in the character rooster. This shall promote the awareness and popularity to them.

  • Chris Yuen

There’s tanks from Valkyria Chronicles as one of the background for one the stages: (http://www.siliconera.com/postgallery/?p_gal=334458|0)

If Valkyria Chronicles characters e.g Selveria don’t make it into the roster, I’ll be genuinely shocked. How many of the Project X Zone SEGA characters do you think we might see?

Space Channel 5′s Ulala? If SEGA characters are involved, Gemini Sunrise and Erica Fontiane yes please. More Sakura Wars and Valkyria Chronicles are always welcomed.

  • fireemblembeast

I can has more characters? :b

  • Chaos_Knight

I hope it’s not all girls. And it would be cool to see some characters from Fighting Vipers and Virtua Fighter. Project X Zone kinda did show they would work out in a 2D environment.

  • Jesse

    Sakura Wars characters, please. =D

  • Luis Camargo

I really want Imca and Kiryu to be playable. I wanted a Sega croos-over fighting game for a long time, hopefully this will pave way for more.

  • Eder García

if SEGA characters are going to be in this game, Virtua Fighter characters is a logic choice for SEGA remember Virtua Fighter Genesis?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8Ey1VDjovw.

and for the Dengeki Bunko side if they don’t put Dokuro in the game, im not going to buy the game

Kamijou Touma is a must, either he or Misaka Mikoto. There is a need for Reildex representation and either of them would fit nicely. I’d also like to see Haruyuki as Silver Crow.

    • Dark Zerato

Touma combat ability is not that good for a fighting game. I think Accelerator suits the game better.

      • fyi1191

Gotta be Misaka / Kuroko pair for balance as Accelerator WILL no doubt break the game. And Kanzaki / Stiyl pair might make it.

      • DyLaN

He is playable in the Index fighting game though. Maybe you can look up the gameplay vids for some impression.

So from what I’ve seen. Dengeki Bunko publishes Spice and Wolf, Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere, The Devil is a Part-Timer, Baccano, Accel World, Asura Cryin,C Cube, Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko, Ladies vs Butlers, and Toradora. Seems like we have a lot to look forward to.

    • s07195

Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora!!

  • 栗場 江理久

Asuna the Flash vs. The Flame haired, burning eyed hunter Shana. HAJIME.

  • Dark Zerato

After J-Star and this, i would like to see animu vs next. They should make things like this sooner.

  • Anime10121

    Importing!

  • Suriel Cruz

The pixel work reminds me of Persona 4 Arena, which is AWESOME!
Hopefully we may see a NA release.

  • Brandonmkii

Way more excited for the SEGA side of this. Phantasy Star characters plox

  • Sapitntapit

    ANOTHER 2D fighter that I need…

  • Brotato Chip

    selvaria.

  • Sakurazaki

I can only hope for sCRYed to be there…

    • Ni ~UNREAL BLACK THINGS~

sCRYed is more a Sunrise thing. dengeki only published the novels.

  • Shane Guidaboni

OMG, characters from Durarara!! would be perfect for a fighting game.

  • ShootThatWay

Maybe there’s a chance for Madou Monogatari characters to be in a game non-Puyo related.
I want to use Schezo Wegey. That dark wizard and his Areia-do Special.

But I feel there must be some a licensing agreement for the Madou characters to be in Puyo games only…

Now to wait and see what system the game is going to on…
    Probably not PC. :(

  • DyLaN

Just a heads up, this will most likely be an arcade first release then console release later. This is my impression/guess anyway.

EDIT: Lol WTF is with the downvote?

    • XiaomuArisu

      The Truth hurtsXD

  • Servant BerserCAR

    Sakura Wars characters please!

  • Shippoyasha

I’m sick and tired of the typical Capcom vs Marvel comic crossover archetype. It would be awesome to see more fighting games feature anime legends from vastly different properties fighting against eachother!

    • s07195

Wouldn’t that be… something under the same archetype? X-Bunko vs Y-Bunko wouldn’t be too much different in concept.

      And then, there’s always Mugen.

      • Shippoyasha

True. I still play MvC games. I said it a bit wrong I suppose, as we already are going nearly 20 years with Marvel and Capcom characters in cross overs. For most anime characters, it will be their first time in a crossover fighter

    • Lynx

Except this is primarily a Dengeki Bunko fighter?
There MIGHT be Sega cameos or they could just be using them as background stages.

  • Demeanor

Guys a lil’ help? I see Dengeki Bunkou is a firm that has published something like 2000 light novels, could you recommend something to look up in order to learn the basics? I mean, I’d like to even remotely understand the comment section and the “Dengeki Bunkou X” part of the game :D thnx

    • echokanon

just look up the comments of other people and you will see names that you might be familiar with due to they have been adapted to anime/manga before. I believe those would have bigger chance to get some characters into the rooster due to popularity.

Quoting some examples from Aisha Lee from below: Spice and Wolf, Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere, The Devil is a Part-Timer, Baccano, Accel World, Asura Cryin,C Cube, Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko, Ladies vs Butlers, and Toradora. These were some example that the novel has been adapted to anime before.

Or you could otherwise try looking up the wiki page as it is rather well updated and the list is so huge the even I will feel scared looking at it lol.

  • Captain Levi

  • Aristides

This game @_@ … I must HAVE IT!

  • echokanon

Actually I’m always curious why people always say that the western animation company will obstruct the localization of games that are adapted from other forms such as manga or novel. Wouldn’t the right actually belongs to the publisher and author of the original material instead? For example in this case, Dengeki Bunko.

    • http://www.segalization.com/ Kuronoa

I can be wrong, but I think the licensing contracts could interfere but I don’t think there is any significant issues with a Dengeki series as most are Funimation works.
Tatsunoko had one character removed and I assume why we didn’t see most Super Robot Wars due to Macross (?) for example.

      • echokanon

Shouldn’t Funimation only own the rights for the anime adaptions? I’m not sure about Tatsunoko’s case but Macross could be more reasonable since it was an original work instead of an adaption.

    • Lynx

-Wouldn’t the right actually belongs to the publisher and author of the original material instead?

In some cases, yes. However with things like, to use in example in this, Shana, the video game permissions would have to go with whoever owns the rights in North America (Funimation/VIZ).

And considering how many series this possibly includes and if its scattered in R1…

There’s also the concern of material that ISN’T licensed for distribution in North America.

      • echokanon

But that is the part where I’m confused. Shouldn’t Funimation only own the rights for the anime adaptions? Although I’m aware that there is also licenses to English light novels (Viz/Yen Press).

Just did a check on Aquapazza and found that most the character’s original games (visual novel) were licensed by many different western studio. The games were also not localized. So it should not be that big of concern regarding western anime licenses or works that isn’t licensed for distribution.

Z.H.P. Unlosing Ranger has crossovers from many light novel characters too if I remember correctly

        • Lynx

You still have to go through with permissions even if such a thing is the case where the series is unlicensed in which case it means you have to go through the Japanese licensor/owner.

They are cases where if the company is a subsidiary like NISA is of NIS (the original creator of ZHP), the rights could carry over.

That is not always the case however as you have things like God Eater Burst not getting the DLC stuff in the English version despite being published by the same company.

          • echokanon

Yes, that’s why I ask that shouldn’t the Japanese licensor/owner of the original work owns the right to get the game across to the other side.

Even in NIS to NISA’s case the rights shouldn’t be able to carry over if those anime license were to be involved.

  • Vash bane

off topic no lie I clicked because of asuna

im not to high on fighting games but im going to keep a eye out XD
