By Eugene . September 24, 2013 . 3:57pm

Capcom has announced a release date of January 23 2014 for the Sengoku Basara 4, and to celebrate, they released a new trailer letting the game’s characters get some screen time, showing off their allegiances or plans.

From Takeda Shingen to Date Masamune and every faction’s various retainers and allies in between, it’s a video full of manly cutaways, proclamations and moments full of the kind of angst and yelling that Sengoku Basara fans love.

Who is the girl in white with the giant sword?

    • Wappuli

      Naotora Ii.

      • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 水木

Never played her before but she looks awesome

I love woman with big swords

        • Wappuli

Well this is her Sengoku Basara debut, so playing her before would have been hard.
I agree that she looks awesome, I’m really looking forward on playing with her and Katsuie.

Ok, after seeing that she likes to punch Shingen similar to how Yukimura does, I just wanna see Yukimura and her doing the same at one point XD

        TY~

So Masamune envied Ieyasu for being able to fly using Tadakatsu, so now we have sword-propelled flying horses in this story too. . .
Good to see Basara making new steps closer to even more realistic portrayal of the Sengoku period.

  • Göran Isacson

Ha ha ha oh my god he uses his swords as proppelers to fly on his horse. I don’t even know what’s going on anymore. Also is that whiteclad girl related to Takeda Shingen? And a new villain? Because if you’re sitting casually on a throne while Nobunaga Oda walks up to you, you are most likely a villain AND you have a lot of ground to cover if you want to seem even half as imposing as Oda. Just saying.

“Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.”

She’s got a grudge against Shingen because he and his clansmen basically scared off her fiance and cancelled her wedding :v

      • Wappuli

I’m pretty sure that Göran too didn’t mean Naotora with that “new villain”-part, but Yoshiteru Ashikaga.(the dude right at the beginning)

        • Enma_Kozato

I realized that after I posted, so I went back to edit it out.

      • Göran Isacson

Aaah, I see. So she isn’t related to Shingen, he just messed with her life? Also is her fiance one of the new playable characters?

        • Enma_Kozato

Yep, just messed up her life, but as far as I know her fiance isn’t present in the game yet.

  • MVRK HNTR

I really hope this gets localized.

  • Masa

Sengoku Basara 4, wonder if there will be a new season of the anime too. :)

  • Jugiatsu

Who in the heck was that sitting on Nobunaga’s throne? That guy has some balls.

    • Vadim Merzhey

It was the Shogun, so yeah, he has balls.

  • Muffum

The Capcom site for the game actually has a different version of the PV. The visuals are the same, but the song is instead the opening for the game, Count Zero by TM Revolution.

I have no idea why it and the version on Youtube are different, but there ya go.

  • MrJechgo

Keiji Meida? Magoichi Saika? Motonari Mori? Motochika Chosokabe? Kanbei Kuroda? Kotaro Fuma? Oichi? Nagamasa Azai? Kenshi Uesugi? Kasuga? Tsuruhime? Nohime? Ranmaru Mori? Ujimasa Hojo? Toshiie Meida? Matsu? Yoshihiro Shimazu? Hisahide Matsunaga? Musashi Miyamoto? Yoshitsugu Otani? Sorin Otomo? Muneshige Tachibana?
Seems like a lot more is still missing…

    • Enma_Kozato

      Nagamasa and Oichi (1:22)
      Hisahide (2:10)
      Keiji (2:16)

      • Muffum

There’s also Yoshitsugu at 2:18. He’s mostly obscured, but you can see his palanquin behind Mitsunari.

        • DanteMasamune

I hope they’re playable (for some retarded reason Shingen and Mitsuhide aren’t despite being so important to the plot especially Shingen).

Going based on the cutscenes it seems Katsuie works for Nobunaga and was sent by Nobunaga to deal with Nagamasa and Oichi (perhaps they’re rebelling against Nobunaga) but appears to have been spared and it seems he might be getting punished by Nobunaga.

I wonder what Hisahide’s role in the story is. Since its been stated in SB2 that Keiji and Toyotomi were once friends it makes sense why Keiji was crying on him (….gay) so I wonder what role Keiji will have in SB4.

They stated the game will have 40 characters (playable and NPC are irrelevant at this point) but we only see like 18 (3 of which are NPC) and like 5 in the background (Yoshitsugu, Oichi, Nagamasa, Keiji, and Matsunaga) so like 23 characters so they showed off at least half of the characters (technically 18 less than half).

I’m hoping for more playable characters than SB2, which was 23, at the very least (having the most playable characters in all SB would be wishful thinking).

          • MrJechgo

I think I can answer a few of your questions, based on both SB and Koei’s Samurai Warriors series: Nagamasa and Oichi did turn on Nobunaga when he tried to take control of an ally to the Azai clan, but Nagamasa ended up losing to Nobunaga in battle.

When Nobunaga died, Katsuie and Toshiie joined Toyotomi, but when he and Toshiie died as well, Katsuie joined Mitsunari, and married the widowed Oichi.

Keiji was indeed a friend of Toyotomi, mainly because his uncle Toshiie and aunt Matsu followeing him as well, but according to SB, when Toyotomi’s wife Nene died, he changed completely. Keiji tried to reason him, but it didn’t work.

Ironically enough, Shingen is supposed to be dead by the time Yukimura is commander… in BOTH series. Yukimura was only a kid when Shingen died, he never served Shingen in battle.

SB4 is supposed to retell the ENTIRE series, from one end to the other, from the first Sengoku battle to the decisive battles of Sekigahara and Osaka, so I assume that every character will get the proper development.

P.S. Your username made me laughed, as Dante and Masamune are both voiced by the same actor XD. Add “Masters” at the end and you’ll complete the trio XDDD

          • DanteMasamune

Dang never thought of adding “Masters”. Can always call me Master DanteMasamune.

As for what you told me, thanks for the info. So its a retelling/alternate universe of the entire SB series almost every past character should be involved then?

          • MrJechgo

Well… ever since SB3, they can’t go any further, because historically, the war ended with the defeat of both Mitsunari and Yukimura, both scenarios that can happen in the game.
SB4 can’t go further than that because it’ll go beyond the war for no reason. If it’s a recap like I think it is, they can get a lot of mileage out of the series, both for events and characters as historical figures.

          • DanteMasamune

Can you guess how many characters will be PCs and NPCs? I’m basing on the ratio presented now.

We have 18 characters revealed thus far (15 are playable and 3 NPC) so a likely 5:1 ratio.

Kobayashi said there was 40 characters in total so a 5:1 ratio out of 40 would be……well I couldn’t fit 6 into 40 perfectly leaving me with 30:6….sooo..we should be getting 30 PCs and 6 NPCs in each category at the very least.

But this is my own calculations.

        • DanteMasamune

I hope they’re playable (for some retarded reason Shingen and Mitsuhide aren’t despite being so important to the plot especially Shingen).

      • MrJechgo

Good eye… but what I meant was that the characters I’ve named didn’t get a similar exposure compared to the characters presented here. We don’t hear them talk nor get a clear cutscene centered on them.
For instance, we don’t see Keiji Maeda in a cutscene trying to reason with Toyotomi and Hanbei or talking with Toshiie and Matsu, Oichi and Nagamasa going all lovey-dovey (seriously, they’ve done that in both SB and SW) or confronting Nobunaga and/or No-hime or Yoshitsugu plotting something with Motonari or talking with Mitsunari about killing Ieyasu, both which were central plot points in SB3.
This is what I meant by “still missing”.
