  • Virevolte

I like it a whole lot. And I used to hate both characters. Good job here.

  • LightningFarron19

Now we see a few things:

    1. People can see Lumina
    2. Snow is corrupted by Chaos
    3. Lumina seems to be a “demon”

    • sophronia856

what Roy implied I didnt even know that any one able to make $8378 in a few weeks on the computer. More Bonuses www.JAM20.com

    • OathkeeperSoraXIII

So far it’s only Snow and Light that can see Lumina :)

  • Go2hell66

That opening was pretty awesome, but then again so was the FF XIII-2 opening and that was a… not so awesome game…

  • $61526767

Really liked the fighting sequence between Lighting and Snow. I do look forward to see how this story turns out.

  • Ouryu

    Snow is a badass now.

  • Justin Lock

So excited for this game. I loved FFXIII/XIII-2, been dying for LR for the last year. :[

  • Tristan Diaz

Best opening of the trilogy imo.

  • Jordan Coleman

I have no idea how a series that started off about normal people getting a shitty destiny got to wherever the hell this game is, but I guess I’ll be getting this game. I just feel like the story sounds like the most stupid nonsensical crap ever, even for a FF.

  • Aaron Boal

Ill call it now. Lumina is the child of Snow and Serah

  • WhyWai

i have no idea what is the plot… did I missed out a lot without playing 13-2?

    • Nice Boat Quatro

I have no idea what is going on here but apparently Light needs something from Snow to restore balance or something like that to the world.

      • Steven Higgins

Lightning has basically become a sort of Reaper. Taking souls from the living and transporting them from this dying world to the new one. She doesn’t need his soul, but if she doesn’t take it, it will be gone forever once the 13 days are up.
It seems Snow doesn’t want to be taken to the new world because he has some sort of mission to complete and most people, including Snow, view being “saved” as equivalent to dying.
Lightning wants to save her old friend so that puts them at odds.

        • Nice Boat Quatro

So Light’s mission is some kind of Noah’s ark? By doing that the old world will be restored?

          • Steven Higgins

No, the current wold is lost for good. But a new world is set up to replace it. It’s that world that Light has to transport the souls to. As for the Nohas’ Ark thing, I guess you could look at it like that. Only it looks like she IS the ark, as here we see her put the collected souls inside her new l’icee mark.

    • Anime10121

Yes, you missed out on quite a bit by not playing 13-2, the entire basis for this game actually. FFXIII had a very tightly focused story, but XIII-2 was FULL of Fabula Nova Chrystallis plot. It looked at the bigger picture while XIII was focused (pun intended) on the much smaller one (with a tighter story). LR looks to continue where XIII-2 left off, storyline wise and mythologically!

tldr; if you skipped out on 13-2 (shame on you as its REALLY good :P), then yes, you willl indeed be missing the plot.

    • Randy Marsh

What did you miss? Um where to start:

      *Introduction to the Chaos substance
*More of the confusing and yet decent mythology
*Lightning disappearing and not being playable; even though the tease cover makes you think she is
*Noel, Yeul, Mog, and Caius’ introduction
      *Snow becoming a *’***
      *Hope becoming a MAN
      *Hope’s annoying sidekick
*Vanille and Fang’s 3 minute cameo
*Sazh’s last minute appearance in the story
      * ***** ***** at the end of the game
*Noel’s big “boo boo” at the end of the game
      *Lightning turns herself into ********
*Valhalla and Gran Pulse fusing to become Nova Partus

So yeah, better buy yourself a copy of XIII-2, it’s only like 15 dollars; yes I still get sad every time I say that sentence.

      • WhyWai

wait.. what? lol.. maybe i’ll watch some youtube videos… this third game seem different enough to be interesting but 13-2 seem mostly similar to original…

        • Randy Marsh

I would suggest it, just buy the game and the DLC for the OP Goddess Lightning monster; FYI about 20 dollars in total, and you’ll finish the game in a good 15-18 hours. Yes everyone, I have done this on the 3rd playthrough. Funny too, since I never skipped a single cutscene. For some reason, being at Academia 400 AF at 8 hours can make a guy really sad for some reason.

      • Anime10121

Agreed with everything except for Hope’s annoying side kick! Alyssa’s hot!

        • Randy Marsh

          Indeed she is….

Oh damn, I said that out loud didn’t I?

        • Rake

          Dem legs and short hair~

          • Anime10121

I usually like long hair, but there’s just something bout dat Lyssa!

      • enorka miho

You my friend really make my day… Lol…. XD

      • Kevin Schwarz

Decent mythology? You lost me there, maybe you meant: CONFUSING mythology. LOL

BUT I wouldn’t buy that **** if I were you until you find it at 5 or 6 bucks, the game itself is indeed lame. Now they are just milking out our money with this one, I mean the foo’ who think buying this day 1 is worth it…

        • Ferrick

not really confusing mythology, just that etro is a complete dick

        • Randy Marsh

I don’t just play the games for info on the mythology, I do in fact read the Ultimania; guide books, and other Square materials that expand the story and mythology of the series. The mythology is indeed confusing, but I like that from a game. As opposed to games like FFVI and FFIV, it gives you the feeling that the world existed before you just the press new game option at the opening menu.

I would reply to the second statement from your comment, but it would take to much time and also Randy isn’t in the mood to have a new enemy on Disqus.

  • Nice Boat Quatro

The fight scene was pretty awesome but I would prefer more body movements. Still, it’s nice to know that even after the end of the world and time we will be able to go to parties.

  • JuhRo

Not watching…. Gotta be uber pumped… and use that hype to finish the game.. Done that for every single one.

  • James Enk

snow is cool for a change

  • Ronldbx6

Square-Enix always make the best CGI’s. The intro kinda reminded me of The 3rd Birthday’s concert scene with Aya Brea.

    • abysswalker

For me it was a VERY STRONG FFVII Advent Children vibe

  • Steven Higgins

Okay Square, I’ll buy, happy now?

  • oh my god. not only are there cyber strippers, but this opening was just amazing. i need to look up the ending to XIII-2 before i get it, though. Unfortunately, i wasnt very motivated to finish that game.

  • Learii

    cool action lighting

  • enorka miho

Best Opening in the whole trilogy.. Snow is now super Bad ass!! But, lol.. I am sorry.. The story still does not make any sense… AT ALL.. It is really ridiculous… Felt like I am playing RE or DMC games… The coherence is laughable.. The only thing that make sense to me is Snow’s and noel transition.. Really, all the nonsense is enough to make anyone go insane…

Not that i am complaining much since I play the crap out of the 2 previous tittle and enjoy them allot… And FFXIII-2 still makes me feel sad… I really pity Noel..

By the way.. I think Lumina is young Serah… You heard from me first.. XD

Oh well, I can’t wait for the game.. I am more than ready for Lightning Returns..

    • OathkeeperSoraXIII

The story makes sense to me, have you read through the datalog and read through the FNC mythology? It pretty much explains the Fal’Cie’s true intentions there :)

      • enorka miho

I do…Thing is, FFXIII’s plot is understandable but I really can’t deny that it is all over the place.. There are things that are quite forceful… I know there are reasons for that..Still, it is not good enough..

I mean, especially as a fan I have to admit this blatant flaw.. It is sad that i am not even nit picking the game’s weaknesses because they are there…. or else SE is going to think this level of story telling is good enough.. Which is not.. They could have done so much better with the game..

Truth is, as butt hurt as it will be even for me as a fan who may sound like a hypocrite now.. We can’t go on saying this is alright… I want FF’s legacy to continue.. And in order to do so, we need more fans… So, if others do not see its beauty as hardcore fans would.. Then its time for SE to perk up to do its mojo once again.. Many can say screw those haters… Then again, this is not the way… Because at the end of the day Sales speaks the loudest..

So yea.. I am sorry but I can’t always say the game is good just because i am a fan.. It hurts saying those harsh word.. And do not get me wrong, I do not hate the game because I will continue to support FF and love it for what it is.. But, I have to say what has to be said for game industry is a business as well..

        • OathkeeperSoraXIII

I think the problem with XIII is that the underlying story isn’t told. only hinted at, the only way to find out more is through the datalog and FNC Mythos which is why people got really confused with XIII-2 – leading to more confusion now. The common misconception of XIII’s story being all over the place is that the character’s themselves are confused about what they have to do. Their actual goal/focus is to become Ragnarok and smash Cocoon into Pulse to cause mass death, a mass of souls would then pass through the gates of Etro forcing the gates wide open, so that the maker the maker- Bhunivelze could enter and finish off Mwynn and then start a new world from scratch (which is what’s happening in LR:FFXIII) However, they defied their focus in XIII completely and this is shown through their l’Cie marks turning white. Meaning they can no longer turn into Cei’ths. Fang’s mark is white from the start due to her completing her initial focus of becoming Ragnarok.

At the end of XIII, Etro releases them from their crystal-stasis and messes up the timeline completely as The Goddess, she is not supposed to alter the timeline. This is what causes Caius to go on his rampage as the messed up timeline causes Yuel to constantly die over and over again. Lightning is then erased from history (summoned by Etro) to help fight against Caius who seeks to destroy Etro. Killing Etro also means the collapse of the unseen world and the end of the timeline. With the Unseen world fusing with the Seen world this brings back the maker- Bhunivelze from his sleep, he’s now able to look for Mwynn in this fused world and kill her. He tasks Lightning with the job of being the saviour to help the souls across to the new world.

All the stories weave in together pretty nicely I thought :P

  • Kevin Schwarz

SEE the problem with repetitive sagas with confusing as hell mythos is that they never give enough answers to satisfy you, instead give you more questions every new game. Such is the case with FFXIII… what could have been a wonderful pararell story (FFXIII and FFXIII-versus as we thought and made us believe at first) turned into a boringly confusing ****fest of anime-ish childish plot. Seriously, I feel so bad for playing FFXIII-2… since they could have ended it with style in FFXIII.

    • Charles Parker

Eh, here’s the basics of what you need to know

1.Lightning finds goddess’s temple and immediately converts
      2. Serah got eyes that can see the future and slowly kill her
      3. Now imagine a marker board representing the timeline and then-JOHN FUCKING MADDEN- that up for some time travel bullshit
      4. Serah is dead, it’s like 500 years later and no one has aged, Snow is brooding while he protects the people left in the world and lightning comes and starts killing people and sending their souls to this new cocoon Hope built and shot into the sky.

Stupid as all that sounds this still looks cool and might be worth playing.

      • Vash bane

so that’s a run down of the story?

        • Charles Parker

Preeeetty much. At least of the story from XIII-2 running into Lightning Returns. A bare bones run down of it, but still.

  • xAtKx

  • Freya2012

So SE is showing us this hype opening trailer and the game isn’t coming until February????

  • Chiupon

    so, Lumina = Loki, right?

  • Kornelious

See this is pretty cool, i don’t have a problem with this game itself but how the story is developing, it seems like the real story started in 13-2 and everyone kinda just forgot about the first one. Other than the characters there dose not seem to be any real connection to to the original 13. It’s not a trilogy if the game doesn’t start until the second entry. I’ll still buy this game though, I just wont compare to the first 2

  • I watched the opening. I don’t mind spoilers too much because I have 0 interest in this game’s story. It’s just way too nonsensical, even for a JRPG, a genre born out of nonsensical scenarios. I have absolutely no idea what’s going on, nor do I care.

Despite that, I’ll be getting the game anyways. I enjoyed the previous XIII games a lot and this one is looking great. I am curious to see what happens to the characters this time around.

  • Mimi

Is there normally this much hype before a new ff game?

  • Pouncebounce

Ugh I love this, can’t wait for February. By the way was that a strip club?

    • Nameless App 1989

The game IS C-Rated in Japan, meaning you have to be 15 or older to play, as opposed to the first 2, which were B-Rated (12 years or older).

      • Pouncebounce

        Oh okay. (I’m 18 btw)

  • Bell

Goddammit. Now I want to play as Snow, not fight him! What did Square Enix to do make him such a badass? I mean yeah, he was cool in the other games, but this is ridiculous.

    • AverageGamers

In just 3 titles, Lightning moves up to become a saviour… Snow moves down to become a villain *sigh*
      Yin Yang?

  • Yan Zhao

That Lumina girl looks just like Serah. Im still lost as hell as far as the story goes from XIII-2. Is there a reason for things to become like this? ANd what happened to Serah?

    • AverageGamers

I’m guessing… Snow will not made it by the end of the game, thus he will finally be reunited with Serah in the afterworld… along with Noel *sigh*

  • mc3027

It looks secretly really good. I’m pretty excited for this game now.

  • Vash bane

i haven’t played 2 nor beat the first(stopped) so anyone wanna fill me in what is chaos?
I know its on other ff games is it that chaos?

  • AverageGamers

Snow… my biggest condolences for you…r fate in this game *sigh*
Seriously, if there’s a character that’s always get worst luck in a new installment, it would be him. Kinda made me wish the producer just stay put with the first game with that happy ending and not making sequels that destroyed everything…
