Toriko Ultimate Survival Lets You Hunt Down Dinner With More Than Ten Characters

By Eugene . September 25, 2013 . 3:09pm

If beating up over 300 gigantic monsters and then cooking them into delicious meals sounds right up your alley, then Namco Bandai’s upcoming Toriko Ultimate Survival is here to say lunch is served. The third hunting game title is set for the Nintendo 3DS on November 28 in Japan, and the Tokyo Game Show video shows off some of the characters players can choose from.

Jump earlier reported that there would be 10 playable characters, but the above gameplay video indicates that there are more than that planned for the superchef-versus-monstrous ingredients throwdown.

The video alone include main hero group Gourmet Hunters Toriko, his main chef Komatsu, alongside equally powerful pals Coco, Sunny and Zebra. The bad guys from the Bishoukai include Starjun, Ootake, Tommyrod and what looks like Midora.

Include the main Toriko site also has profiles for Teppei and Sunny’s sister Rin, Tengu Buranchi and we’re already looking at at least 12 characters, with more likely on the way.

The game features up to 4-player co-op, and the video also shows how players will be able to map each character’s signature moves – with the moves changing depending whether they’re in the air or ground. We’ll keep you posted when more info on playable characters are available.

WOW they’re actually using materials from the Manga instead of the Anime. Now I really want this game :/ I’m really interested in knowing who’s voicing Buranchi at the end of the trailer.

I’m usually quick to pick up on Japanese voice actors, but I can’t recognize whoever voicing Buranchi in the trailer. I really hope for a localization, or for NB to at least release Toriko games for other free-region consoles.

That’s why i used to love the bleach games for PSP, they always used the manga as main source instead of the anime. Too bad they went downhill after Heat the Soul 5. Dx

But yeah Buranchi is actually good, it would be awesome if they even went and hid some character from what is happening right now, like Midora.

It’s not that unusual for games to be ahead of the anime or movies. There isn’t marketing much better than having the first voiced and in motion version of a character (done by various Naruto, One Piece Toriko and even the only Kuroko no Basket game out) and you can play as them weeks before or the week that the character is aired for all to see.

I have no idea who is voicing Buranchi either, but it sounds like a good pick. Toriko hasn’t gotten a single game localised yet, not even in Europe, but given how small the cast feels in comparison to other series, I’m sure FUNimation could tackle it and even it could just get the treatment most One Piece games have gotten for half a decade, subtitled Japanese only.

Chances are that most anime license games are going to stick to the 3DS given that it has a massive install base in Japan, it has for the most part replaced the PSP which gobbled up most of the more technical anime games. Chances are that the Vita or Wii U will be the next system to be getting Toriko games (while the PS4 is still growing and the PS3 is slowing down), so you could either import a cheaper system or make your interest in the games known.

The 3DS is still young, so all three of the 3DS Toriko games stand a chance at getting localised, especially if they are bringing over JoJo.

his first sentence sounds a lot (imo) like Tomoyuki Dan, but his second word is totally different, so, no idea :)

sadly Toriko is kind of underrated for a shounen anime even in the west

This game looks a lot better than the last two on the PSP, too bad there’s almost 0 chance of localization.

    just to mention something:

the game until now confirmed 10 as playable:

    Toriko
    Coco
    Sunny
    Zebra
    Komatsu
    Teppei
    Rin
    Starjun
    Ootake
    Buranchi

The trailer shows Grinpatch and Tommyrod, but they’re not confirmed playable or not.

Eugene: Midora isn’t anywhere in the trailer. Maybe u confused him with starjun.

I was caught off guard by them having Komatsu take a character slot to be honest, but it would make him a very distinct class of character, perhaps one who still has that awesome knife as a last resort.

The line up already looks finished to me, but having a few antagonists would be nice.
