By Spencer . September 27, 2013 . 12:49am

This trailer for Tales of Symphonia Chronicles starts with Lloyd’s pilgrimage with Colette and then fast forwards to Emil’s adventure in Dawn of the New World which takes place two years afterwards.

Regal Bryant was first seen in Tales of Symphonia. His hands are cuffed by choice so he fights with his feet. He returns in Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World as the president of Lezareno Company. Tales of Symphonia Chronicles is slated for release in the West in early 2014 on PlayStation 3.

Regal is still my favorite Tales character. I can’t wait to use him again in the PS3 version.

    • Timovisch

Regal is definitly in my top 5 favourite Tales characteres. :)

Definitely can’t wait to pick up this one after Xillia 2. By the way, I’m lovin’ that delicious animation for both games. Hence, I have not completed or played Symphonia 2 on the Wii, only finished Symphonia 1 (GC). But in my opinion I would thought the Luke costume would gone to Zelos or Lloyd lol.

    • Wappuli

I would have liked to see Zelos in a Richard costume.

haven’t played symphonia before but the anime cutscenes look great, can’t wait to get my hands on this one

    • Spirit Macardi

The game itself actually has barely any anime cutscenes. Most of that footage was just the game’s intro. Honestly, the only animated cutscene in it I recall comes at the very end.

        • Anime10121

Yeah, unfortunately, the Tales series doesnt utilize its anime cutscenes NEARLY as much as Final Fantasy does its CGI. Its the only thing about Tales games I’d wish would change, as they are generally beautiful when their there, but they dont use nearly enough of them :(

          • 永次

Xillia has like 15 anime cutscenes…

          • Anime10121

Xillia is also the exception, and not the rule (meaning most of the other games dont have nearly as many as Xillia)

          • 永次

I know, I have all the Tales of. But is a fact.

          • Alexander Marquis Starkey

A lot of them tend to be rather meh quality. Hell some parts of Tales of the Abyss’s opening were just buh.

          • Anime10121

They do choose a lot of meh points in the story to place the cutscenes, but they ARE generally high quality and good looking.

Tales of Abyss’ opening was my favorite:(

      • there are a few more than that. lol. altogether there are about 4 or 5, most of which come during or after very important events.

      • Wappuli

Besides intro, there are 5 anime sutscenes, 2 of which were added to PS2-version.

  • LustEnvy

Emil reminds me of Roy and the Prince from Suikoden V character design-wise.

  • Wappuli

No cameo-costume or even hi-ougi in a character trailer, what kind of discrimination is this. . .
Famitsu has good quality pictures of hes and Raines cameo-costumes if anyone is interested.

  • Love that the cut ins in Symphonia are the actual, color portraits instead of the single-colored ones. I’m really excited to get this game.
I’ve played Symphonia a couple of times, but I always mained Lloyd and Kratos/Zelos. Who else is fun to use as the main character? The only other character I’ve used before is Raine, but that was just in the coliseum. I didn’t have much fun with her because of her slowness.

    • regal is a really fun character to combo with!

  • Arcana Wiz

I wanna this so bad, never got to play the original, so this remaster will be great for me :D

  • 永次

10 October marked in my mind.

  • Spirit Macardi

I find it curious that no English footage has been shown off yet. Considering this was announced before Xillia 2.

I honestly do wonder what will be done about the new stuff from the PS2 version, since the English voice track only covers the Camecube release. I can’t see Namco bringing in the original VAs to record new audio, since they’re colossal cheepskates and the original cast was union (that was payed for with Nintendo’s money). It’s why most of the actors changed between the first and second games.

A part of me wonders if this will be the first game in the US with Japanese audio not because they decided to have dual voice tracks, but possibly because that will be the ONLY voice track. I could totally see them doing that as a cost saving measure.

    • XiaomuArisu

It would be awesome if the Symphonia 1 cast would return!!!
Loved them! Atleast Kratos Aurion has always the same VA

      • Spirit Macardi

Colette does as well. That’s an advantage to being fi-core as opposed to having full union status.

I don’t really dislike the replacements though. I even think Brian Beacock is a better Lloyd in some respects. Some decisions were questionable though, like having Dave Wittenberg take over in place of Crispin Freeman as Regal. Patrick Seitz would have been a better choice since the two of them have a rather similar vocal range.

Again though, Namco is likely not going to bring them back…. Even though they have enough money to give Pac-Man a CG animated TV show, apparently spending a little extra on dub actors is where they draw the line.

You know I really want it … bad
But at the same time I’m a little sad. TOS was the first console RPG that I really utterly adored. I’ve never been a fan of FF. Frankly I found them very boring. So when I played TOS it was an emotional rollercoaster with charaters I came to love deeply. Although it has many WTF moments and even a little hint of Star Ocean: Till the end of time. I didn’t care about that at all and really spend days on playing it over and over again.

What I wanted to say was, It’s a lovely game that I would love to play again but deep down I just want a game that will make me as dumdfounded as that one. We really deserve one :)

  • MrJechgo

I’ll be skipping this game since I’ve already played Symphonia and already own DotNW. I… just don’t see the necessity to buy that game again.
I like both games though, so I strongly encourage you guys to buy this game if you never played Symphonia.
