Someone Has to Die In The Beautiful Melody Of Sin

By Eugene . September 28, 2013 . 2:00pm

Togabito no Senritsu, or The Beautiful Melody of Sin, was a cult iOS title released by Kemco last year and is now headed to the Nintendo eShop for Wii U. The horror visual novel adventure game pits eleven trapped people—members of a school’s wind and string instruments club who have been kidnapped and thrust into a death game—against one another.

Stuck in a prison, they have 10 days to somehow complete the rules of the game or face execution. While that may sound simple enough (relatively speaking, of course), there’s more.

The game revolves around the kidnapped victims being split into two teams—jailers and prisoners. Amongst the prisoners, one a day is selected to be a killer. The killer’s job is to kill off a jailer, while the prisoners must figure out who the killer is and defeat him. If the killer somehow goes free, everyone else dies. (This kinda sounds like Danganronpa’s key cliché of “Who’s the murderer this time?” court moments)

If the prisoners or killers succeed at their task, everyone else walks free. The problem, of course, is that someone in the group inevitably has to bite it. Oh, and breaking the rules instantly gets everyone killed.

The Beautiful Melody of Sin is out now for iOS (In-app purchase of 500 yen to unlock the full game) and Wii U version will be available for 1000 yen on October 2nd.

Above is the iOS trailer, and below are some screenshots from the iOS version.

So more like Virtues Last Reward or Ace Attorney? (Since Daganropa is like Ace Attorney)

    • British_Otaku

Seems more like VLR but having the cast trapped, bound by various rules with a murderer amongst them and presumably multiple endings taking into account player choice.

I can’t speak for Danganropa, but Ace Attorney has two endings for every case, one is akin to your health bar running out in any game (often enough when you made a silly guess too often or something) and one is the end game happy end which there is an alternative ending for usually, with AA2 (The miracle never happen) providing the most interesting spin in my experience.

Oh my god, I love stuff like this…
Doubt it will make it over to the west, but I can at least hope. :/

What meme is that pic is again?

  • The only version I want to hear about is the US version.

    • British_Otaku

Worldwide release… >_> Is it that hard to type that? >_>

      • The only version I want to hear about is the INTERNATIONAL version. <_<

      • Lumi

I think you mean the ENGLISH version

        • Virevolte

English is fine, yeah. But a worldwide release or two isn’t bad sometimes. I’m not playing much in my native language. ^^

  • ShadowDivz

    That’s the theory anywayz.
    (Gantz theory)

  • British_Otaku

I’m pretty worried, not about the quality of the game but of this being the first of those games I NEVER want to see as far as regions go.

A Japanese only Vita/Xbox One/PS4/PS3/360/PSP/DS game can be imported with nearly no issue. A Japanese only Wii game can be imported no problem if you just have a spare SD card. I have a Japanese 3DS, so that isn’t a problem most of the time but this game is both impossible to import on the Wii U as it stands AND even if it was, it is the type of game which needs the player to understand the language. >_>

I don’t know whether any publishers are brave enough to localise originally iOS visual novels for the American and European e-Shops, but I would be happy to see it. It would be cool if was localised on both platforms even if I have an Android phone, it’s a start to pleasing the every platform under the sun master race.

    • Lumi

I agree about the localization part, I think there are… some for the iOS, but they are mostly date sims, and the translations are mostly horrible. But I heard these are kind of easy to fan-translate so you might want to try there, but usually if it’s not a established publisher (e.g. Level 5’s Layton Brothers) there’s little chance.

But hey! it’s Kemco and they’ve translated their RPGs before. (But none of their VNs.)

  • Notquitesure?

Looks and sounds good, hope it comes over.

  • Abel_Nightroad

    Curious to play it

  • artemisthemp

To bad the west most likely never will see it.

  • DyLaN

    *Looks at last SS*
Guys. She’s the killer! Now watch some1 shot down my speculation

Hope some1 translate this. Then again the previous bunch of similar games hasn’t been translated AFAIK.

  • ReMeDyIII

It looks like a team is being put together for this translation. It is not only a short visual novel, but also all the script files are contained in .txt files.
