We’ve seen different back-stories of Drakengard 3’s Utautai sisters, ranging from Three’s obsession with dolls, to the caring yet dark-sided Four. Similar to the previous Drakengard games, we’ll also be seeing weapon stories in the third installment. Here’s a look at the sad tale of the spear’s life.

In Drakengard and Nier, they give background details on each weapon of the games, one of the biggest parts that made weapon collecting more rewarding than other games. Drakengard 3 will continue with the tradition, and will feature weapons that tell different tales with their own personalities.

The below is the story of the spear. For those of you who’d rather not be spoiled, you can check out our other Drakengard 3 posts.

The End’s Warning — Spear

This is a story about a certain spear. A story of a certain spear, passed down to a certain man. The man didn’t know that his time was nearing an end, but the spear knew of this.

The man loved the beautiful sound of the spear each time he brandished it. And the spear continued to cry. As it tried telling the man of his end. The man eventually ceased to breathe. In the midst of hearing the beautiful sound of his beloved spear in the fierce battlefield.

Lv. 3

That was the story of the end. The end of a certain man’s time. On the side of the man who had become a cold lump of flesh. The spear had quietly grieved over the death of its 568th owner.

The spear awaits its next owner. For the day that owner’s life comes to an end, while it rings its beautiful sound. In the midst of time that lasts an eternity, the spear that has seen countless ends, continues to wait.

While the next one isn’t as thought provoking as the story of the spear, the quirky and somewhat insane sword tells a whole other tale.

I want to wield them all. They call to me………

  • Crevox

I can only imagine what the level 4 spear looks like.

    Only. Imagine.

  • z_merquise

Do previous games also give backstories to each of the weapons? That’s kinda neat.

Though the spear had a sad story, the heavy sword was more twisted.

    • Ferrick

yeah, they do, as you level up the weapon, the more it’s story will be revealed to you, some were sad, some were twisted, some were just downright terrifying, and others were amazing. One of the reasons on why i liked drakengard and nier

  • gRiMmYdArK13

Will we get Two’s story? I would love to read what it’s about! :)

    • Rayhan PromisedGallery

i heard it’s about Two and Cent’s being lovey dovey and them visiting orphanage or something.
Still too normal for Drakengard, maybe the full translation will be suprisingly WTF

      • gRiMmYdArK13

I heard it too but from The Something Awful Forums.

There’s at least one thing that is ‘normal’ in Yoko Taro’s games such as Seere and Emil (kind of)

        • Rayhan PromisedGallery

Their personality is sort of normal, but their life clearly aren’t

i guess i’ll give the most normal trope to King of Facade, he’s just a normal boy, a REALLY normal good boy. Fyra’s life is kind of messed up, even Junk Heap brothers are actually both psycho lol.

  • BB

Holy Shit! Is that Hymir’s Finger/Iron Will!?

  • Shippoyasha

Absolutely love it when they give weapons backstories in RPGs. Just makes them feel more important than just something to craft/find.

  • Tom

Mass of Iron – Straight out from Nier. I like it!

  • Rayhan PromisedGallery

    okay…

  • Göran Isacson

Ha ha oh boy, weapon backstorys in a Drakengard game! This will be an interesting re-*gets to the first line, throws himself on said spear just to end the misery*.

… Heck they should make that a weapon backstory. A weapon that belonged to a warrior poet who was so depressed by his own writings that he decided to just off himself to escape them.

Except for some reason, poems would still be sent to the poets publisher in the poets handwriting… and they would all be written in blood…

    • Ferrick

actually, they do have that sword, it’s name is the Nobuyoshi, and here’s how it went:

      LV1
In a far-away Eastern land, there
was a poet who made a living reciting songs.
      But he keenly felt the
imits of his own skills, and so he
made a pact with a ghost.

      LV2
With the power of the ghost inside
him, he began to compose glorious
and beautiful songs. His fame spread through
      the city, and before long,
he was named the official poet to
      the Imperial Court.

      LV3
But one day, the ghost returned to
      him, and she said thus:
“Your life as a genuis poet is over.
You shall henceforth never sing a
      song again.”

      LV4
It was as the ghost said. The poet
fell silent, and no more songs came
from his lips. His dream gone, he
plunged this sword into his breast.
It still gleams with the glistening
      of his blood.

      • Rayhan PromisedGallery

        “eastern land”
i guess the existence in “flipped” Japan is confirmed in Drakengard world then

        • Ferrick

no lol, in fantasy worlds, eastern land always refers to japan esque lands that train the fighters in katana, naginata, wakizashi, and etc. but not japan itself

          • Linq

Emile is gay and seere have his sister crushed in pieces (and arouse a blind pedophil), which is certainly quite normal.
But it’s easy to be considering the others caracters =)

and yes two’s story have no outstanding developpement albeit two avoiding heartfailure everytime cent speak, and two’s opinion on the culinary skills of her sisters (but well cooking recipe of minotor and troll is certainly outstanding, kind of…)

(Nier mass of irons come straight from Dod1 and not just the design, it’svthe very same weapon that fell in Nier world)

  • Randgriz

I dont know if i should pay attention to this or not, its not like S-E are gunna bring it over…

    • Ferrick

they’ve already registered the domain for drakengard, so unless if they’re going to pull a type-0 on us, it’s going to come

      • Randgriz

Im eating my words and im happy about it!

        • Ferrick

haha i’m just glad that it’s coming here

  • Ni ~UNREAL BLACK THINGS~

The spear is the Romantism while the Sword is the Futurism

  • Go2hell66

Not nearly as entertaing as the background stories of the sisters :/

Welcome back, Cavia. What heartbreaking atrocities will you perpetrate this time?

  • Magus KilIer

Hymir’s Finger!, Hymir’s Finger is back!

  • KuroNathan

I actually wrote a series of horrid fanfictions about certain weapons when I was young and still suffering from middle school syndrome.

  • Ryan Chiu

Pretty sure that sword is Hymir’s Finger from the original Drakengard.

  • Solomon_Kano

So weapon stories and levels are back? YES!

  • revenent hell

I must be very odd since I find Meat more disturbing to read than blood…..
