Nintendo Is Helping Atlus With Shin Megami Tensei IV And Etrian Odyssey IV In Korea

By Spencer . October 4, 2013 . 2:32am

image Nintendo of Korea will publish Shin Megami Tensei IV in South Korea and the game will be a retail title. Atlus titles actually have a decent following in Korea since games like Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne and the Persona titles were fully localized in Korean. This was back on the PS2, years before other JRPG publishers invested in Korean localizations, which are more common this generation. Shin Megami Tensei IV will be available on November 9 for 49,000 won ($46).

Etrian Odyssey IV is being handled in a unique way. The game will not be localized in Korean, but Nintendo of Korea will release both the English and Japanese versions of Etrian Odyssey IV as separate Nintendo eShop downloads. Each version costs 33,000 won ($30). Etrian Odyssey IV is the only game in Korea with two versions. Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy, Project X Zone, and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate only have the English versions on the eShop.

    Meanwhile in Europe.

    • IxisNaugus

We’re still without a confirmed release date in Europe, aren’t we…?

      • Timovisch

        Uh huh… =

        • IxisNaugus

Am I mistaken or did Nintendo not publish SMTIV in the US? With that being the case, I’m surprised there’s just been silence on a potential European release. When it comes to Nintendo published titles, this only really happens consistently with Kirby games :S (and the inverse for JRPG’s in more recent years XD)

          • SMT

Well, we only just recently got an official release date for Bravely Default, so I’m guessing we’ll have a release date for SMTIV about 2 months before release as well.
Hopefully it’ll be announced in a Nintendo direct that also has some information about the Fire Emblem crossover (Tying it to the 30$ deal that the US got).

          • InfectedAI

Atlus published it in the US.

  • EvE

this wouldn’t happen if 3ds was region free…

    • Daniel Jeanbaptiste

oh stop it. Region Free doesn’t solve anything but spoil gamers who cant understand business behind region locking. You will only be helping Nintendo in Japan.

If region free was so great then why all the complaints about Sega PS3 and Vita games

  • Happy Gamer

South Korea is such a funny market when it comes to games. You have the uber pro gamers, but you’d be surprised how NOT a gaming country it is in general.
