Square Enix did more for Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster than upscaling the graphics. The PlayStation 3 and Vita version has better lighting and improved textures. Here’s a comparison of two scenes from Final Fantasy X-2.

  • Tiduas

It’s indeed nice work but what’s to except when more than two years have passed since the announcement, right?

    • Dark Zerato

You should be happy since SE still bothers to bring it oversea.

      • Tiduas

Well I don’t mind since I’m playing the japanese release anyway if I’ll be buying it. I’m happy for everyone else of course though.

      • DS23

An overseas release has been obvious fairly early on since X2 exists in order for a physical US release to be allowed. SCEA won’t let one game get a disc release as a HD collection and all…

  • DAT Bird From DAT Cage

I do not see a 10+ year graphics leap at all

    • Pyrotek85

It’s a remastering of existing assets if I’m not mistaken, they’re not remaking everything from scratch with today’s technology.

    • Somber

that’s just a remaster. not a remake. IMO, SE did great jobs for both X|X-2 & KH 1.5. Not many can make it awesome.

  • haku67

Looks very nice, I like how you can see more detail in the backgrounds and its not as blurry as before. :D

  • leingod

I’m actually more hyped about X-2 than X… Sailormoon Fantasy FTW. Does that make me a bad person?

Oh and BTW… a release date wouldn’t hurt.

    • Pyrotek85

I actually enjoyed X-2 more than X, which probably puts me in the minority as well.

      • leingod

Personally I’m more hyped about X-2 because I skipped it back then, so it’ll be completely new for me :)

        • Brion Valkerion

As long as you don’t expect too much out of the story and enjoy it for what it is, the actual game itself is way more fun to play than X namely the combat is some of the best in a turn based rpg. Just my personal opinion.

          • mc3027

I liked the battle system in X better because I could sit and think about what move I wanted to make for as long as I wanted without worrying about the enemy attacking. It allowed for far greater strategy.

          • leingod

I will definitely look forward to it then. I skipped it 10 years ago because my friends would’ve bugged me to no end for playing a magical girl game, but since I’m older now, I no longer give a crap.

    • There is nothing wrong with loving Sailor Moon FF~. Especially not more than the game that it’s a sequel to.

I still haven’t got to it myself (I intentionally ignored it for a long time), but I’m looking forward to trying it. Because yeah, magical girl FF (although it’s more PMMM sphere than BSSM side).

    • i used to think i disliked it, but i enjoy it a lot more restrospectively. i cannot wait to give these games another play in HD!

    • Kelohmello

It’s my favorite FF in terms of gameplay. Story is marginally worse, but the combat is probably the best in the FF series bar none.

  • cyberkinghardy

Hey. I haven’t played any of this. Does the story of X-2 a continuation of X? or can I play X-2 without playing X?

    • pressstart

It’s a direct sequel with lots of references and returning characters, so while you don’t have to play X first, it’s recommended.

      • cyberkinghardy

ohh ok thanks. as much as i want to play with those 3 girls, guess i have to start with tidus.

      • Time Sage

Reccomended in the sense that it entirely spoils X’s ending.

  • TheExile285

Seems like these are the type of enhancements you will only notice with comparisons. I’m still glad they tweaked it a bit.

  • Ryuukishi

Nice subtle improvements, but frankly the original games already look ridiculously good for the time and console they were released.

  • artemisthemp

    So happy for Cross-Save :)

  • Charlie Black

how many years has it been? exactly

    • Somber

there are so many player who didn’t played both X & X-2. A remaster is a perfect gift for us.

  • fairysun

I don’t care what it takes.
This scene deserves a HD remaster in both graphic and sound.

    • Sakurazaki

      Casted by a real crow!

  • The difference is amazing. So glad they decided to HD remaster these =^_^=

  • LexKitteh

Yes! So it includes the Last Mission afterall! Excited to try out the new content :D

  • KanjiLikesBoys

    Need. Psychicer. Dresspheres. Now.

  • the9reen9uy

That Zanarkand picture alone sold me.. I definitely cannot wait to play this. I sunk so many hours in it the first time around, I can only imagine how many will be put into this!

  • Anime10121

Still think they screwed up the faces…but I LOVE everything else!

    Needs more Emotion Engine :P

    • HerosLight

The only screwed up face is Tidus to me. Everyone and everything else looks good.

      • Anime10121

I mean I love how everything else looks, but the emotion seems like its been sucked out of all the characters :(

  • Wow. That’s a huge difference, lol. I kind of prefer a small portion of the details/coloring of the original, but goodness does the remaster look gorgeous. ♥

  • Xaltmas

I need this in my life.

And in my Vita. I just hope the Vita version’s graphics aren’t too much of a downgrade from what we have been shown.

  • JustThisOne

Haha, what they said awhile back about the widescreen affecting cutscene framing is pretty noticeable with these comparison screenshots. (Ex: Like that one with Paine in the background.) Not that it’s a bad thing. It’s just kind of neat.

  • Anon-non

Oh God yes. I only just found out that Last Mission is included.

  • NimbusStev

The models themselves look virtually untouched. Look how jagged Rikku’s shoulder still looks in that second screenshot. The increased resolution and improved lighting do look nice though.

    • KuroNathan

could sharpen a blade on Riku’s shoulder

  • Sesshomaru

Boxing Day? Is that just for Japan? Or everywhere?

  • Crevox

    Look everybody, higher resolution!

  • Pinwheel

I might be wrong on this, so don’t kill me for asking/stating this.

Does anybody else think that companies purposely make their old game’s screenshots look worse than they did before? The originals in these look like they’ve had their resolution screwed with to make it look worse so the new ones look better.

    • Mr_SP

I’m not sure. I always remember older games looking nicer than they did in screenshots… but then I play HD versions of games and wonder why they look so much worse than I remember.

  • Lucky Dan

I am disappointed S-E didn’t fix the true issue of FFX-2 the size of the breasts they need to increase the breast sizes to define the costumes they are wearing can’t even tell if they are boys or girls in their outfits still !!!

  • harmonyworld

This isn’t gonna be like the KH hd remix where there are still textured on faces and it’s like almost literally no different?

  • DS23

Aw, hell. I’d play these again.

  • Raiger

    wow… look at that high definition… ^^
cant wait to finally play Last Mission…in english ^^
