Madoka Magica Crashes Into Phantasy Star Online 2 With Madoka And Homura

By Eugene . October 11, 2013 . 2:40pm

We’d previously been informed that Puella Magi Madoka Magica would be heading to Sega’s Vita RPG Phantasy Star Online 2 with a collaboration, and we finally have the relevant screenshots on hand. Players will be able to obtain Madoka and Homura’s costumes, which replace your entire outside look, as well as a Kyubey mug device.

Madoka looks great translated into the game, but does anyone else feel Homura has that horribly, horribly glass-eyed look in her face in the above screenshot? If there was ever an uncanny valley moment in game, that was just it for me.

The costumes are available now in-game and will stick around till the end of the month. The next collaboration for Phantasy Star Online 2 will be the Fate/Stay series’ characters.

  • All I can do is shake my head and weep.

<—– Was born speaking the wrong language =(

    • 60hz

we shouldn’t be penalized for being born in the wrong place – why do this to us SEGA!? WHY!!!! T_T

  • ShadowDivz

No more “meanwhile in the west comments”?
I guess because now its just sad…

    • Sentsuizan_93

      Agreed. But
      GAWD DAMMIT! Don’t jinx it…..

    • Fitzkrieg

Pretty sure this game is going to be localized in Martian before we get it in the west.

      • ShadowDivz

Lol. They translate for another planet before giving it to westerners?

        *realizes odds*

    • Vesperion

I would post it, but then i would just get even more depressed

      • Takui Nanao

so true it would be depressing

    • ChristyKf9

It’s SEGA they always played favorites with their home nation when it came to the entire Phantasy Star Series, no different from Square Enix with Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts, or another other non western company.

  • leingod

What is this “Phantasy Star Online 2” thing? It looks nice.

    • Micrll

I think I played this at PAX in 2012 and it was pretty much finished but that must have been my imagination…

      • Kaitsu

it must’ve been your imagination. PAX tends to let your imagination go wild.

        • Dynemanti

Yeah I also imagined playing it with a fan made english patch like a week after it came out that was applied with little to no effort…

  • ivanchu77

Seeing these type of news makes me sad, “hey, look at these things you will never have!”

  • Theob Vious Choice

Hell, I COULD have done this; I have an active account, but my ISP is like “Hey, you can’t play, update, or even download anything related to Phantasy Star Online 2.” and no matter what I’ve done, for the past months; absolutely nothing has changed. So whatevs.

  • Ferrick

dress your waifu online had become rather creepy with these two costumes

    • DS23

Just these costumes, now? Did you miss the lewdkini over the summer? :3

      • Ferrick

…. oh god, why must you remind me of that golden male g-string that i got from AC scratch…

but these ones are creepy too, it just doesn’t fit, i mean look at the character model wearing madoka’s costume, the chin… the manly chin..

        • DS23

Yeah they’re trying to have renderings of the chars that look as they do in the anime series but still fit into the PSO2 universe and it just looks …odd.

  • Brandonmkii

Just a heads up, these costumes aren’t in game yet. They start on the 23rd this month. Saving up my meseta as we speak.

  • InfectedAI

A character has to look fairly realistic to reach uncanny valley status. Not even close in my personal opinion.

  • cyberkinghardy

    Meh, release the Nova already!!

  • ChristyKf9

It’s bad enough that they never localized Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity, that they delayed a western release of PSO 2 for over a year, but to make matters worse they blocked all players whose IP addresses aren’t from Japan or any other localized Asian country even ones who had been playing the game extensively. Not to mention the fact that they are already gearing up for their next big thing Phantasy Star Nova which will not be released in the West. Do they honestly think we only care about Sonic the Hedgehog games or something? And now that they have aquired Atlus does that mean no more Shin Megami Tense or Persona for the US?
