Dragon Quest Metal Slime Smartphone Runs Android, Coming In December

diqda Major Japanese telecom NTT DoCoMo (a company big enough to get a DS game about it’s mascot) is partnering with Square Enix to make a Dragon Quest branded smartphone. The SH-01F Dragon Quest model comes in one color, Metal Slime, and it’s limited to just 30,000 units.

The Dragon Quest smartphone is manufactured by Sharp and runs Android 4.2 with a Snapdragon 2.2 GHz quad core processor. The 5 inch display is full HD (1080 x 1920 pixels) with a TFT LCD screen. The outer camera is 15.9 megapixels and the inner camera is 2.1 megapixels. It also supports NFC and has a 3,000 mAH battery. Oh, and it has Dragon Quest VII: Journey of the Cursed King preinstalled. The phone will be available in early December.

What does Dragon Quest VII, a PlayStation 2 game, look like on a 5" screen? Like this.

“(a company big enough to get a DS game about it’s mascot)”

That was inexplicably localized, incidentally. How is it we got that and not 3/4 of the RPGs or visual novels we want?

Sorry, that sounded a little bitter. But yay game trivia!

How dare anyone look down on the Rocket Slime/Mori Mori series?
They are very good games by themselves, as in Zelda clones but with a twist. And without very much text, on top of that. And when they were still trying to push the series in the west.
The first one in particular pushed the GBA to its limits (A Yoshi Island Giga Bowser-like battle where the boss comes back and forth quickly with no slowdowns whatsoever).
The second one, which was incidentally the only one translated, added Mecha battles.
The third one marked the transition to 3D rendered environment, and pirate ships.

I think we also got the 2006 TWEWY too for the DS, Somehow back then Square used to do good mobile games too (like Seiken Densetsu 1 for DoCoMo, different from Sword of Mana, and those Final Fantasy spinoffs).

He’s not trashing rocket slime, he’s referring to this:

Indeed, Boing Docomodake is one of the most WTF US releases of a Japanese game ever.

And for the record, I have Rocket Slime DS, and its 3DS sequel is one (of many) games that haven’t come over here I was referring to.

That DQ8 looks so awkward to play, and I bet you’d constantly try to get your hand out of the way from the screen. Annoying!

dudes, DQVIII, not 7, but at least the phone doesn’t seem like trash. would be a pain to replace if it broke though

  • Honestly, this is sad. How far companies have to go to milk money? Port are great for more people to play it but porting just for the sake of making money? Who would play a 70h + RPG on their phone? With touch controls? Honestly.

oh is DQVII there yet !? uhh no.. -_- ..
