PS4 Version Of Dynasty Warriors 8 With Xtreme Legends Supports Cross Save

By Spencer . October 23, 2013 . 12:09am

sc18L Dynasty Warriors 8 with Xtreme Legends is coming to PlayStation 4 as a launch title for Japan. Before that, Tecmo Koei will release Dynasty Warriors 8 with Xtreme Legends for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.

You can transfer your Dynasty Warriors 8 save data into DW8XL on either PlayStation 3 or Vita. For the Vita version, you need to upload your save data online to access it on Vita. The same feature works with the PS4 version. Upload PS3 or Vita Dynasty Warriors 8 with Xtreme Legends save data online and you can load it on PlayStation 4.

Downloadable content from Dynasty Warriors 8 is compatible with DW8XL. You can also use the same content on Vita if you use the same PSN account on that system. Some special store bonuses aren’t compatible with the Vita version and it’s unclear if the PS4 release will have shared DLC.

Whoa wait a moment, am I reading this right? Do I have to buy Xtreme Legends on PS3, transfer my DW8 save data to that, then upload the new XL data just to have my DW8 progress on the PS4 version? That seems really terrible.

PSN has data storage cloud system for Playstaton Plus uses. I think you could also just get away with copying it to a flash drive and copying it to PS4. It will still be a while before the release of the PS4 version(let alone the localization) so all of the details will be ironed out before then.

Its really not that bad. All it is is load DW8XL, game imports DW8 PS3 save. Then just put the DW8XL save up into cloud storage and voila. Its literally 2 easy steps.

I wasn’t complaining about it being complicated, I’m talking about it being expensive. Why would I want to buy DW8XL on PS3 if I’m planning to buy DW8wXL on PS4? If this article is correct then I’ll have to plunk down like $40 (I think that was 7XL’s price) for what’s basically the privilege of save data transfer on top of the $60 the PS4 game would cost. I believe the Japanese are getting a PS3->PS4 next-gen upgrade bonus, but who knows if the West would get that. And even if we did I’d still have to download PS4 version digitally and keep the PS3 disc in the drive instead of just buying the PS4 version and being done with it. I might as well just buy the PS4 version and start over if TK is demanding more money just so I can keep my work.

Sony’s already confirmed the $10 upgrade for the West, using Watch Dogs as an example.

          • Merveilles Lespace

Yes, I’m aware that SCE and various publishers are offering the $10 upgrade in the West, but I’m talking about whether or not TK Japan’s offer would be taken overseas as well. There are some cross-generation games that don’t have the $10 upgrade proper (i.e. Injustice [requires Ultimate edition], FIFA 14 [in-store only apparently?]). But this is kind of putting the cart in front of the cow because TK still hasn’t confirmed any of the PS3/PS4/Vita versions are coming overseas.

This will be one of the first PS4 games I get if it comes out in the US since I haven’t played 8 yet.

Same here, I played every entry in the series up to 7, and figured I’d wait for 8, which works out timing wise for the port.

Vita has DW Next as launch title and now PS4 has DW8 as launch title. I am starting to see a trend here.

Starting? Remember Dynasty Warriors 4 on PS2? Dynasty Warriors 6 on PS3? Samurai Warriors: Chronicles on 3DS? New console launch = Warriors Game Released.

      • Johan Naudé

PS2 started with Dynasty Warriors 2 though but yeah, new console, new DW game.

I haven’t played 8 yet and was thinking of getting it soon but now I’m definitely gonna wait for the PS4 version.

  • Strid

I’ll just keep waiting for DW8 Empires. At the going rate, it’ll release the week after.
