Rozen Maiden Limited Edition Comes With Something Actually Useful: A Pocket Watch

By Eugene . October 31, 2013 . 10:40pm

A real, working, pocket watch! Honestly, I’ve always wanted one of these (They’re hard to find in my neck of the woods) just because… how cool would it be to whip one out when someone asks you for the time? Then, I’d just need to finish the look with a monocle…

Anyway, Rozen Maiden: Wechseln Sie Welt Ab will be getting that watch as part of its limited edition set. It will come with both the PlayStation 3 and Vita versions of the game, which hopefully will provide an interesting take on the big What If fans have asked—namely “What happens if I didn’t wind the damn doll when it arrived”.

The game has been delayed to January 30th 2014 but that gives you time to save the Christmas money for a new watch and the game itself too. (It’s Chinese superstition, but it’s said to be unwise for anyone else to buy a watch/clock except the owner himself as it represents time ticking away aka Death.)

I’ve always wanted a pocket watch.

Dammit, as much as I’m iffy on visual novels (and can’t read Japanese for that matter) that pocket watch is too sexy…must…resist…urge.

  • Namuro

    That’s beautiful!

But, I will never, ever replace my beloved Remilia pocket watch!!

      That is very lovely

      I’ll admit it – I’m jealous.

Curses… There seems to be some sort of invisible barrier preventing me from obtaining this pocket watch…

  • LunarKnite

Pretty cool. Always wanted to collect pocket watches after having bought one years ago.

The first 2 Rozen Maiden games for the PS2 also came with Pocket Watches. The First game had a Shinku themed pocketwatch and the second game came with a Suigintou themed one.

    They were pretty well made too. Didn’t have the heart to use any of them though. ; ;

Umm, the superstition isn’t there because it “represents time ticking away aka Death”, it’s simply because 送钟 (giving a watch as a present) and 送终 (sending someone to their funeral) sounds exactly the same (song4 zhong1), making it a taboo among Chinese cultures.

A similar “pun”s is “sharing a pear” 分梨 and “separation” 分离 (fen1 li2).

But the only thing I’d worry about here is the clock not working after a while. I kind of wonder about the quality of these limited edition goods… It’s all too easy to end up with a watch that stops ticking before you actually finish the game :

Well, at least I know where some of my money might be going come the beginning of next year lol

which hopefully will provide an interesting take on the big What If fans have asked—namely “What happens if I didn’t wind the damn doll when it arrived”
RM: Zuruckspulen (latest one) answered that. I assume you will be playing as Unwound Jun if you picked that option.
