Sin & Punishment Fans Need To Check Out This Intense 3DS Shooter

Amzy usually helps other developers create games. Phosphorescent Lanze is one of their few original titles and it looks impressive. This fast 3DS shooter has a smooth frame rate and the mech you control can switch between two modes.

In flight form, your move fast which is helpful when flying long distances. You also have lock-on missiles that can hit multiple targets and a powerful charge shot. Flight mode also makes it easier to shake off missiles and your attack power is a smidge higher. The downside is you can’t make quick movements and you have a wide turning radius. Also, Amzy says you need more skill to target enemies in flight mode.

Fighting mode gives you more momentum and makes it easier to target enemies. However, this mode isn’t suited for long distance travel or fighting multiple enemies. Players can also purchase different subunits that changes how their ship performs like lowering defense, but greatly raising attack power.

Phosphorescent Lanze comes out on December 4 as an eShop download in Japan. The game is only 1,000  yen ($10)

    Dat framerate O_O
    Impressive. :)

Looks and gameplay is kinda similar to Kidou Senshi Gundam 00 for the DS.

    • InfectedAI

Still upset that game never made it to the US and that it was never translated by fans.

      • XypherCode

Yeah I feel you. Had to import one just to play it. Pretty straightforward even if you don’t know how to read Japanese.

  • Dragard Kaos

When I read “Sin and Punishment” my mind instantly jumped to Persona 2: Innocent Sin and Persona 2: Eternal Punishment. I hope Atlus’ November announcement has something to do with them.

    • InfectedAI

I seriously doubt it. Another unlikely, but cool scenario I’m shooting for is Persona 3D. A complete version of 3 featuring everything from all 3 releases of the game and the system’s 3D effect.

      • Dragard Kaos

No thanks lol. As you said, we’ve already had 3 releases of Persona 3. I want full remakes instead of enhanced ports of the older games. The Social Links and Calendar systems in P3/P4 made the game less enjoyable to me, P1 and P2 didn’t have that problem. I’ll play and buy anything MegaTen related though.

        • InfectedAI

If you preferred P1 and 2 to 3/4 then maybe you should play the main series. It might appeal to you more.

          • Dragard Kaos

Already played SMT I, III, and IV. Playing II at the moment. Also played most of the other spin-offs like Devil Survivor and Digital Devil Saga. I think the Raidou games are the only ones I haven’t played yet.

          • InfectedAI

Don’t forget Strange Journey on the DS. It’s part of the main series. It was originally going to be IV, but they changed the name because it doesn’t take place in Tokyo.

          • Dragard Kaos

Can’t believe I left that one out. I beat it on Chaos and am working on Neutral now. I’d have played SMT: if… but there’s no English patch yet =/

  • That framerate is incredibly impressive. I hope the actual game is like that.

  • To be honest, I’m getting more of an Omega Boost vibe from this video than anything else. Not that many other people got the chance to play it.

Now imagine a HD Omega Boost locked at 60 fps

  • TheExile285

Looks good. Hope it finds it way stateside so i can buy.

  • 하세요

Only $10? I’ll give it a snag when the time comes around.

  • neocatzon

That was beautiful, that thing we fly is more mech than plane. This kind of shooter must not caged in Japan forever.

  • Game looks pretty fun, and the music was good =)

  • James Enk

speaking of sin and punishment… i would love a sequel

    • LexKitteh

There was a sequel for Wii, Sin and Punishment: Star Successor. Was released in the west as well.

      • James Enk

yeah sry… i meant a sequel to that

  • DivinePhoenix69

Looks pretty sweet, it has a Zone of the enders/Omega Boost vibe to it and the OST sounds like it came straight out a Virtual-On game. Im digging it.

  • MrJechgo

Why do I get the feeling that the “Missile Alert” buzzing sound is gonna get annoying after a while…?

  • kylehyde

What kind of witchcraft is that? After I finished liberation maiden I reallly wanted an improved sequel (of course a sequel that is a shooter game). I hope this game gives a better control scheme than liberation maiden. I hope it gets localized soon.

  • Strongarm Thunderbeard

Reminds me of Ace Combat mixed with Zone of the Enders.

my god…what a sexy frame rate

  • SonicTHP

Hey that looks pretty cool. It’s a good thing the 3DS can play import…wait a minute!

  • If we got Kokuga I really hope we get this. It looks so damn good.

  • ManagedCorn

This game was made for me. I’m in love.

  • British_Otaku

Looks REALLY impressive. I hope they release a demo, so I can have a taste of how the controls work before throwing a good 1,000 at them even if it looks promising.

  • $1392518

Gives me a Macross feel more than sin and punishment. Especially when its not on rails..

  • J_Joestar

definitely looks like something to keep an eye on.
    Mecha musume form too lol

  • Dammit Spencer, for a second there I thought Treasure was developing a new S&P game for 3DS. Don’t psyche me out like that.

  • 60hz

this looks nothing like sin and punishment.

    • Daniel Jeanbaptiste

only thing that it doesn’t have is rail gameplay

      • 60hz

or enemy spawn patterns… or level layout… or evasion mechanics… or reflection mechanics… this is a flight sim game akin ace combat and some of the later macross attempts – it’s cool but it’s got nothing to do with sin and punishment.

        • Kitsune

Let’s not forget Sin and Punishment was pushed by an interesting story as well, meanwhile this game really doesn’t seem to have anything.

  • What does the headline have to do with S&P, or at least the genre it’s in? The game looks cool, but it’s not a rail shooter, much less one with “move relative to the screen while aiming independently” mechanics.

  • Göran Isacson

The game’s got speed and smooth frame rate and a neat soundtrack, I will admit that. But the GUI seems VERY obtrusive and the constant beeping when a missile locks on to you, which seems to be ALL THE TIME really stressed me out. Also the constant air-dashing with the mecha made it a bit hard to follow the action on screen. Unsure if want, despite looking like it could be a neat cross of Star Fox and Zone of the Enders.

  • Ric Vazquez

Looks like a hybrid of ace combat and zone of the enders

  • Rafael Budzinski

…man, that Omega Boost feeling, I’d buy this game without thinking twice, it looks amazing!
