Tetsuya Nomura And A Street Fighter Artist Worked On This Square Enix Game

By Spencer . November 3, 2013 . 11:17pm

Square Enix is making a sequel to the light gun arcade game Gunslinger Stratos and it has two characters designed by Final Fantasy artist Tetsuya Nomura. Can you guess which two are made by Nomura?

Answer: The top two.

Riccardo Martini, a 26 year old from Italy who is a "problem child" in the Aces Squad, and Sakura Ayanokoji, an 18 year old with a slim figure and giant bazooka, are Nomura’s Gunslinger Stratos 2 characters. Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike and Code Geass mecha designer Akira Yasuda made the two characters below. Sarah Tendoji is 17 years old and has a big sister type personality (I guess this a riff on the Onechanbara series?). Despite the fact that she has blonde hair and blue eyes, Sarah is completely Japanese and skilled using pistols.  Tsukasa Suo is 19 years old and the genius leader of a military special forces. He has a strong sense of justice and a charismatic personality.

Gunslinger Stratos 2 is slated for release in spring 2014.

amazing, almost like there is not an over-use of belts or zippers, but instead a reflection of japanese alternative street fashion in his designs. incredible.

(inb4 some people still berate him for belts on the designs he didn’t do…)

      … zippers…

I wished arcades were more popular in America. :c

Unfortunate that my local ones closed down. Of course, all they had were Pac-Man age games anyway. I do wish we had things like SC2 or SF4 (or Tekken Tag 2?) – that would’ve been awesome!

I wish this game would come to consoles lol

I wish Saudi Arabia knew what an arcade is

I know, right. There is an arcade-like place close to my house, which I’m thankful for. It’s a place called Main Event; they have really good arcade games, laser tag, and classic titles too. I think it’s a Texas-only business, but you can’t quote me on that. :)

The first game was hard to play and confused me.

  • Dianatos

The tiny-looking girl is 18 while the big-sister, sex-appeal girl is 17. Even if it’s only a year apart, that’s hilarious!

  • cyberkinghardy

Sarah Tendouji should be the one having the description of giant “bazooka” hehehe

  • LightningFarron19

So wait, Tetsuya Nomura designed the characters who have practical clothing designs and Akira Yasuda was the one who designed the ridiculous looking clothing designs?

    What is this, opposite day?

I think the top two designs were indeed the most likely answers because they seem the sort of designs that appeals to Japanese. Slim bodies, kinda animu and stuff.

Besides it seems that Nomura doesn’t draw fanservice-y outfits that much.

Which is something I appreciate about him (well, his aesthetic usually, but also that he isn’t pander-y with lady designs).

    • Kumiko Akimoto

      Impractical outfits are the best.

  • nororu

there is a 5th character. who is he?

  • Chaos_Knight

    *doesn’t see belts and zippers*

    Wat.

  • AokiShizuku

Arcade machines. The one thing I can’t import for a reasonable price.

I’ve wanted a console port of Gunslinger Stratos for ages… It’s not going to come, is it?

    • Tre W

If it ever does, it won’t come until SE feels that they’ve made all the money they could from arcades.

One can only hope that SE will be that merciful, and take a lead from Bamco and Gundam Extreme Vs. (and the Full Boost update), which are also made by ByKing, the devs of Gunslinger Stratos.

ever since XIII series and some KH spin offs. i think Nomura’s design is much more diverse compared to his prior works (X/X2 , KH2 and VII compilations), more focused on accessories, motifs and ornaments, not just belts abuse. just take a look at Vannille, Serah, Fang, Hope, or Aqua . more practical usage of belts and zipper made by him nowadays. at least i don’t see any Lulu’s successor now o__o

“Despite the fact that she has blonde hair and blue eyes, Sarah is completely Japanese”

    genetics, what are they

    • DCBlackbird

I used to post comments around this topic all the time….. It pretty much ends in you being told by everyone to accept the character for his/her interior qualities….

  • http://epiclyamazing.wordpress.com/ AzureNova

I so wish this would somehow come out of Japan.

    • Tre W

A console port is pretty much the only hope we have at the moment, sadly. If we can at least get that…

  • http://twitter.com/puchixseda puchinri

Huzzah~. I guessed correct. Those two just felt like Nomura designs to me; I like them a lot too. The other two just look kind of gaudy to me (and certainly a bit more).

The game looks kind of fun.

  • nororu

Tetsuya nomura? i hope the combat system could be similar to dissidia. that can be pretty awesome :)

  • brian

I liked that after it went to Sarah, it focused immediately on dat cleavage.

  • LuciferD666

Am I the only one who, because they can’t play the game,at least wishes they released a soundtrack for this?

  • Setsu Oh

is anyone reminded of that sega brawler?

  • http://vindictushots.tumblr.com/ Okuni-chan

I need to steal an arcade machine ( ._.)

  • Galen Nycroft

Though it’s arcade, it looks like something that would work well on the XBox One.
