Karous: The Beast Of Re: Eden Has Bite Sized Shooting Missions

By Spencer . November 4, 2013 . 1:42am

karousFinally we have some details about Karous: The Beast of Re: Eden. The game is connected to the Dreamcast shooter Karous and it uses the unique sword/shot/shield system.

HMV says Karous: The Beast of Re: Eden will be different from standard shooting games since it will have short missions for players to clear. That makes sense since Karous: The Beast of Re: Eden is a portable game for 3DS. There’s also a training mode and a picture unlocking system that utilizes StreetPass.

Karous: The Beast of Re: Eden is slated for release on January 23, 2014.

Holy crud I want this! I have the dreamcast version and it’s great!

Wait a minute, I thought the company Milestone went bankrupt a while ago?

    • Julien_N

It wasn’t really bankruptcy. In fact, the company’s president was arrested because of illegal financial operations. He sold some of Milestone’s shares and assets to the bio-ethanol plant he created in Vietnam, if I remember right.

However, Kou Hayashi and Daisuke Nagata, (k.h.d.n) who created the music and heavily participated in the creation of the Milestone games’ universes (especially Radirgy I think), left Milestone when it was disbanded and founded Sakura Flamingo Laboratory. I am not sure about the status of this company/label/group/whatever (?) but they release their newest music albums through it.

Karous 3DS ‘s publisher is Klon, a publisher that seems to specialize in 3DS releases as of now. I don’t know if they have a special relationship with k.h.d.n. or not.

Hope that clarified a few things. ^^
I am not sure about everything, so if anybody thinks I made a mistake somewhere, feel free to correct me .

Thank you so much for the clarification.

I’ve only played a couple of their shooters, but I love Karous. Very solid game.

“He sold some of Milestone’s shares and assets to the bio-ethanol plant he created in Vietnam” Suddenly Gearbox looks normal.

Even if the game is on a portable system, having a “full” arcade-like mode would be a great plus. Missions can be fun if well designed or if they are small stages. Ketsui DS is really great for instance, the most difficult modes are short but intense and replayable. We also had games like Contra 4 or Shinobi 3DS that had short missions and a full game to satisfy both needs.
However, with only a list of objectives (kill X ennemies, etc.), the replay value tends to be lower as you have little incentive to keep replaying the missions once you cleared them.

I would still buy the game regardless of that issue if it is made available for Western 3DSes, but it may be a bit of letdown compared to what it could have been.
