MapleStory 2 Coming In 2014 And It’s Set In A Brand New World

By Spencer . November 7, 2013 . 4:50am

imageNexon announced a sequel to MapleStory, but MapleStory 2 is trying to differentiate itself from the popular PC game. MapleStory 2 takes place in a different world that MapleStory with new monsters. Nexon says the two games are not connected to each other.

Instead of being a 2D game, MapleStory 2 uses an isometric viewpoint. The game will be a different genre so MapleStory 2 stands on its own. Nexon will continue to support both MapleStory and MapleStory 2.

User testing for MapleStory 2 is planned for mid-2014.

Isometric? Could it be a SRPG MMO akin to Wakfu and Dofus? It also doesn’t help that the artwork on the 2 looks like the cover art for Disgaea games which is of the same genre. Can’t wait for more news on this!

      It totally does :O

    • Learii

or maybe they make it 3rd person

  • Go2hell66

    my childhood right here O_O

can’t even remember how many hours i spent playing this game.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/Kevassa02 kevassa

    Oh dear. Maple Story.
I’ve spent soooo much time here as a kid. I was a warrior (because heroes must be warriors) and suffered the lack of cool moves and useful enemy group stuff.
So many days grinding. So maany!
It was the only MMORPG I could ever get into before I quit it.

  • ZekeFreek

BUT WILL IT BE FREE!!? LIKE MAPLESTORY!?!

    • komiko12

I think so. Most Korean MMOs that I know of are Free to Play with optional features that are paid with real world currency.

  • NightzeroAX

I wonder how Nexon NA is gonna handle this considering their reputation.

    • r0gamer940

do they have a bad reputation?

      • Shady Shariest

From what i’ve heard, it’s a sluggish and slightly chaotic organization…

        • Ferrick

slightly is kind of an understatement

          • Shady Shariest

I wen’t with slightly, coz i have no idea, just all i’ve read :3

          • Ferrick

lol, this is going to sound like i’m QQing but, i hate nexon with a passion

a year ago, my account got hacked, but thanks to vindictus keeping tabs on what IP was used to login and the mail system keeping tabs on the name of the characters the items were sent to, i finally found the culprit, and posted this in both the customer service and the forums, there were others that joined in who had the same problems too.

But then out of nowhere, nexon locked the thread, and banned my account without stating any reasons as to why they did so. So all those hours spent on mabinogi, maplestory, and vindictus, went down the drains. And i tried to dispute it, but nope, permanent ban

and to add, their system of “Logging in through website to play” is very unsecured, for the heck of it, i used wireshark to check if the data that sends my account id and password to their servers is encrypted or not, but to my surprise, it’s not encrypted, and free for everyone with the knowledge of packet sniffing to see

          • Shady Shariest

Yeah, isn’t it funny that Nexon sounds like an evil corporation, and acts like one Dood :D

And there is something fis-Sardiny in this :/ They are just denying these thing happening?
            Edit: Dood.

          • Ferrick

nah, they don’t deny it, but all they do is just do some PR talk and do absolutely nothing about it

          • Shady Shariest

Meaning that they are a shippy company! *Don’t know why, not in the mood for swearing* *Dood.*
            It all makes sense!
            …Dood.

          • RichyGaming

This dood knows what he’s talking about, dood.

          • RichyGaming

I’m really sorry to hear that, dood…
The only game I believe I played that was from Nexon was a little bit of Maple story and some DFO. But when I heard about DFO shutting down, I decided not to even make it past level 10 so I wouldn’t get addicted, dood…

      • NightzeroAX

Their customer service is horrendous. A few people I know including myself had to wait a month to 6 months in order to get a reply from a GM.( which if you did it would most likely be an automated message).

    • Kamakuma

Agreed but I kinda swore my self away from Nexon after the whole DFO situation…

If I did try this I’d expect NA to shut it down after the Beta testing. >__>

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Leafy_Cam Leafhopper

Unlike Devcat games, Nexon NA seems to care more about Wizet’s MS more

  • zferolie

That little preview picture there, along with the Isometric view… makes me think of Disgaea…

  • Neophoton

I missed out on the first due to being stuck on dial up during my childhood, thus my friends literally went missing for weeks from MSN/AIM as they were on faster connections for the game.

In a way, I’m kinda glad I never got into it, but then I’ve had my share of MMO addictions in high school once I finally got cable, so I guess it evens out.

And like everyone else has pointed out, the preview image vaguely reminds me of that of Disgaea.

    • Go2hell66

i played on dial up sometimes. no lag at all i swear XD

      • Neophoton

Maybe I just overestimated the sluggishness of dial up. ;_; I remember having to wake up early for school to download trial programs like Photoshop back when there were less free options.

  • MrRobbyM

My history with Maplestory is comparable to drug addiction.

That said, I’m sort of excited/scared for Maplestory 2.

    • J_Joestar

      >_< i almost failed a college mid term because of it back in the day…
luckily my PC is very old and buggy now so there is minimal temptation to get dragged back into it now.

    • SlickRoach

Exactly like I am. Whenever I glance at the icon on my desktop it’s an inner struggle to indulge myself from the guilty pleasure of mapling.

    • chroma816

      Oh man, same.

I would play my entire summers away, realize I couldn’t balance school and Maplestory, and then stop.

But then I’d start playing around Christmas Break again. And then I’d stop.

And then I’d feel that itching again…

    • http://takopako.tumblr.com takopako

gah, same here. no matter how long my hiatus, i always come running back and have months where i cant play anything else…who knew a game from my middle school days would haunt me in college!

  • Betrayer

As long as it’s not like the transition from RO1 to RO2… It might be alright…

  • JustThisOne

Wait, so… why still call it Maple Story 2, then, if they’re trying to make it different?

    • http://enria.org/ Jahla Din

Because they don’t want to cannibalize the Maple Story community yet still have the Maple Story name attached to it so that it can ride off the popularity of the previous game to attract new players.

  • Yan Zhao

After what Nexon did to DFO? Hah. No thanks.

    • Kelohmello

Maybe if more people had played it and made it more money it wouldn’t have happened! Maybe, just maybe, it’s not Nexon’s fault they couldn’t keep it running.

      • Yan Zhao

The ignorance is strong in this one.

        • Kelohmello

Oh really? Then prove I’m ignorant. They said they weren’t getting enough cash/players to support the game. You haven’t said anything to refute that, you’ve just called me ignorant.

          • Kamakuma

They had many players in the game itself when it was still available in NA. Heck you had people with full cash shop items and skins ect. It was clear their revenue was there.

Now let me tell you why people stopped playing over the years… They stopped updating the game entirely for about a year or so. With no events, or incentives except the occasional Golden Goblin hunt. Which get’s boring after the first 100 times you murder him.

Not to mention the game NEEDED(I can’t stress this enough >,< ) moderators in game to monitor what was going on. The community was running rampant with hackers and bots. Which was killing the game horribly. Yet all they did was make everything in-game more expensive to try and combat that which didn't work out well at all.
P.S.Sorry if I'm coming off strong myself. But these are just a few things that occurred and netted them their "losses" as they put it and never bothered to try and fix them. x..x

          • Yan Zhao

I dont need to refute anything thats common knowledge to an intelligent person who has dealt with Nexon games before. The fact that you actually quoted what Nexon said as your rebutal has just given everyone else the proof of your ignorance. Ironic.

          • Kelohmello

Well, I guess there’s nothing to say if you don’t even intend to back up your statement…. common knowledge, I think you should research what that actually means.

  • https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChAgYzpMfD0X9n_9uj6Zghw Jeremy

Screw Nexon, They killed off my Favourite MMO, Dungeon and Fighter, and well i wont be playing.

  • Blaz

    Bout Damn Time.

  • http://www.mengsbizarreadventure.com/ Mengplex

Serious question, anyone able to think of any action RPG style games that are done in Isometric? Im having a hard time visualizing it…

Unless by isometric they mean like Ragnarok Online or something (sprites in 3d space)

  • Rabbit

I’m getting conflicting info on this. MMOSite says “The 3D MMORPG will have many familiar monsters from MapleStory.” The exact opposite to this article… Not to mention it refers to a full 3D viewpoint as opposed to isometric. Someone needs to straighten this out.

    • JustThisOne

I’m pretty sure it means that there will be new monsters, not that it’s entirely made up of new monsters. :P

As for the 3D view point/isometric thing, I’m not too sure. I assumed that maybe isometric meant that it’s an isometric camera angle the entire time, and that the entire thing is in 3D.

  • Kelohmello

It might be interesting. Really, it’s not hard to compete. Maplestory is a pretty hardcore grindfest. You pretty much stay in one area and grind it out til you’re strong enough to go somewhere else or you run PQs until you’re strong enough to go to another PQ. If Maplestory 2 is nothing like that then that alone will probably make it fine.

  • Anesia Hunter

Screw MapleStory!! I want DFO back and with all of the new updates that KDnF got. >=O

  • SuBw00FeR

    I’m kind of excited…
