Earlier this month, Sony Computer Entertainment Japan announced that we’ll hear more details about Freedom Wars, on November 21. This week’s Famitsu magazine shows that some familiar developers are creating the PlayStation Vita title.

The magazine reveals that God Eater makers Shift and Street Fighter IV co-developers Dimps will help out Sony World Wide Studios in the development of Freedom Wars. Sony’s Japan Studio often works with other teams for first party titles. Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus developer Marvelous AQL and comcept worked on Soul Sacrifice.

Additionally, Famitsu teases a glimpse at two key characters of the game:

l_528b2b15beb6b

Uwe “Sakamoto” Cabrera, the valiant veteran.

l_528b2b1772486

Aries, the mysterious young lady, who leads the protagonist.

Freedom Wars is currently in development and slated for release in 2014 for PlayStation Vita.

My body is ready for the update Thursday ^_^

  • leingod

That looks cool. PSV needs more games like these, tailor-made for what it can do instead of ports.

    • Audie Bakerson

May want to rephrase that in case this turns out to be ANOTHER Monhun clone (which it very well may).

      • JonathanisPrimus

How would that at all refute his point?

        • Audie Bakerson

I meant that if it wound up being so, it would look like “tailormade for vita=MonHon clone”.

          • Romancer Ecclesia

games like soul sacrifice often get compared against MH like some sort of benchmark. then people complain about broken mechanics or cookie cutter builds… almost like they expect the a game of the same genre to be the system seller. this in turn leads to caution as only safe ideas or solid series will make it to the vita, it kind of discourages innovation. maybe that’s why indie is being pushed so hard on the handheld, it really needs a big dose of creativity on it. just my two cents.

      • benhofb

It isn’t like that is a HORRIBLE thing. I mean, yeah, I’d love tons of other genres to hit the Vita, but Sony is trying really really hard to compensate for what they lost from Capcom. Plus, monhun games are pretty fun. There is nothing like taking down a huge beast with a few friends online or locally, IMO.

        • k.b.a.

but is it possible its why some people arent buying vita? that they dont find monhun fun. its possible as some people dont like shooters or fighters. but none of those genres has the potential to be a console mover like just for example JRPGs and hunters seem to be so far for the vita.
i personally think the huge dose of indie games on the way for the vita is great, and aside from umd’s being pretty much worthless to the handheld and memory cards costing too damn much, it’s solid console. heck half of the kickstarters i’ve backed in the past year i’m getting the vita version for. but a majority of people who’ve talked great about the vita to me personally have almost exclusively talked about only JRPGs and GE/Soul Sacrifice if they aren’t talking about PSP games.

as if those genres and the console are star crossed. not bad for fans of the genres, but not great for everyone else, and not promising for the platforms future. also showing love to japan with vita tv and ps vita 2 as jp only for now and no announced western release yet sends a message. forcing vita fans and adopters to pay a hefty price for people not buying the console, which is sony’s fault to begin with if we’ll be honest

      • leingod

It doesn’t bother me that it’s (apparently) a Monster Hunter clone, that’s not what I meant. I meant exclusives, games made from scratch for the Vita, instead of PS3 ports.

Injustice and Spiderman are the latest ports, and they’ve lost a lot in translation… they look muddy and choppy.

      • .:Raphællius:.

I’m getting tired of all these numbnuts comparing every Hunting action game with MH (which had its first game released in 2004) it’s an insult towards the developers of these so called “Clones” Monster hunter has no story whatsoever, and the only game i feel is a complete rip-off is Lord Of Arcana. All the other games have a slight or big difference in Controls, Character designs, Layout, etc.

    • Dokuro

Do you own a Ps Vita?

      • leingod

Yeah. I know who that skull dude is.

        • Dokuro

How many games have you purchased?

          • leingod

I’d say, around 15 to 20. Maybe more. The only ones I avoid completely are sports and LEGO games.

          • Dokuro

Few games there but enough games to be saying there are no games…

          • leingod

            I never said that.

          • Dokuro

“That looks cool. PSV needs more games like these, tailor-made for what it can do instead of ports.” ports ports ports there is much more than just ports in the Ps Vita-

          • leingod

You’re overly sensitive… do you get bullied by 3DS fanboys much? I never said it has “no games” … I just said games like these, made with the PSV in mind are more than welcome. Like it or not, ports on the Vita are rather abundant… and t’s not 100% bad, either… I particularly enjoy fighting games on the go.

          • M’iau M’iaut

            Dokuro and Leingod.

            Move on please. Thanks.

          • Dokuro

To me there could be 1000 more ports and that would be fine, idk whats the problem with that, the more I can play the better.

Im pretty sure you are a 3ds fanboy.

          • leingod

OK, so now I’m a 3DS fanboy… based on what? You have some serious growing up to do, dude.

I’m not a “fanboy” of anything, I own every relevant gaming platform, and every single one has its pros and cons. Owning a Vita doesn’t mean I have to blindly praise every single thing about it.

  • http://epiclyamazing.wordpress.com/ AzureNova

Can’t wait to hear more on the 21st. Not only does the game look and sound good, but we also have good people working on it.

Also, loving the character design. Sakamoto looks cool, and Arirs looks pro with her headphones and hair style.

This is definitely on my list of games I’m looking forward to.

  • JonathanisPrimus

The Senran Kagura games are only published by Marvelous AQL. Tamsoft develops them.

    • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

While Tamsoft handles coding and art, the games’ creative director is a MAQL employee. Takaki comes up with the concepts, while Tamsoft does the legwork. They’re both developers.

  • Nitraion

Another investment for Vita Tv yet i am kinda pessimistic about localization…

    • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 禍津水木

      Pretty sure it’ll get localized

Conception 2 was announced for localization today and that was an unknown for awhile

    • TheExile285

      It’s a first party game…..

      • Nitraion

So it will be like Soul sacrifice that sony self-publish?
if so the chance is high if 3rd party chance is low…

        • Ferrick

when has SCE japan games NOT get localized ?

          • JonathanisPrimus

Over My Dead Body for starters.

          • Syn

that hasnt been confirmed, its not even out yet.

          • JonathanisPrimus

Did the first game or its PSP remake get localized? Nope.

    • Dark Zerato

Sony has to localize it at all cost. Vita is dying in the west.

      • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 禍津水木

Which is probably why it won’t get the Vita TV but get the cheaper Vita LCD

        • xXDGFXx

Well, sucks for SCEA. I already imported the GE2 edition so SCEA isn’t getting anything outta me. At this point, I’m fed up with their friggin indie parade.

      • k.b.a.

so this is the [type of]game that’ll save the vita in the west? i thought it’d be the surge of indies people crowdfund and essentially pre-order their copies of if they so choose. yes i know the key being if they so choose

        • Dark Zerato

Hunting games are became more popular. Bringing this and God Eater 2 to the west will please a lot of fans.Just look at MH4 sale.

          • k.b.a.

they are gaining popularity yes, but they’ve been around for a while now. the scenario isn’t that everyone who’s touched a monster hunter game falls in love with it.it’s been almost 9 years now since Monster Hunter has hit the scene. no one can deny it’s selling power but that doesn’t mean it’s destined to move mountains of psvitas

Soul Sacrificeis coming and God Eater has been free for plus users, but great as they are they haven’t moved me or anyone that I know to pick up a vita to play a game they technically already own. Don’t get me wrong I want to get a Vita to play that game, but it’s like number 15 on a list of other vita games i own and would like to play

  • http://amc9988.deviantart.com/ amc99

    God eater….. developer……. YEAHHHH
Now I’m more excited about the game!
I hope FW and GE2 will be localized

    • tubers

I hope FW and GE2 will collaborate in some of their DLCs.

  • benhofb

HNNNG. CAN’T WAIT! The more and more I see of this game, the more and more I want it!

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Leafy_Cam Leafhopper

    God Eater dev huh?

Does this mean this won’t have online either?

    Sorry I’m bitter about that.

    • Ferrick

soul sacrifice had online (with a kickass NET code too), what’s to say that this won’t

      • http://twitter.com/#!/Leafy_Cam Leafhopper

That is true, I guess ill be hopeful.

    • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

Unlike Namco, I doubt Sony would be crazy enough to release a first-party hunting game without online. I don’t think you need to worry on that front, especially since Soul Sacrifice has had online in it already.

      • http://twitter.com/#!/Leafy_Cam Leafhopper

I need to remember that it is a First Party game by Sony. Yeah Ill stay hopeful about that aspect.

  • NTaiyokun

Interesting, but any mention of Dimps makes me nervous.

After all, they’re the only company that’s succeeded in screwing up Sonic games and Tales of the Tempest.

    • JonathanisPrimus

Let’s be real here. SEGA screwed up Sonic games long before Dimps came on the scene.

      • NTaiyokun

My “irrational hater” senses are tingling…

    • s07195

They did develop the Sonic Advance and Rush series, two of my favorites, though. I’d say they have more hits than misses.

  • http://www.shonengamez.com/ GameEmpireHD (Kaitou)

I guess I know what I am buying for next year.

  • tubers

That’s some nice promo shot (very clean, high AA). It barely looks like just a VITA game for the last 2 character models.

The guy reminds me of Borderlands 2 dude:

    http://stickskills.com/omega/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/borderlands-2-salvador-concept-art-1.jpg

  • JoJo_649

MMMM, two key characters, so that means this will have an offline story mode? because that’s awesome!

    • Magicks

I hope there is a offline story mode. From what I’ve played from MH, I couldn’t get into the game just because I felt that I was just doing quests… And that’s it. >_> I must be weird for not liking MH.

      • JoJo_649

Actually, I didn’t liked it either for those same reason > _ <, hopefully this one has an offline mode like soul sacrifice.

  • Pockystix

this is really something, some good devs working on FW.

Gonna definitely keep an eye on this one.

  • Valtiel Ikari

I’m sold, just have to wait until localization news to start throwing my money like a madmen.
The game interested me since day 1, and now that you tell me that God Eater developer are giving a hand, one of my favorite hunting game!!!
    So I’m all hype!!!

  • DyLaN

I’ve been wondering, why is everyone using a headphone?

Also nice design for Sakamoto and Aries. Especially Aries hair.

  • Damarius Wingfield

    Let the blood flow!

  • Hector Velar

I was about to say…. Capcom releasing a new game! no way!… of course not, but glad the developers are working outside of Capcom to create original titles.

  • natchu96

Honestly, the game looks pretty good. I think everyone in the west who likes this kind of genre would love GE2 and this to be localized, for sure.

  • leingod

One doesn’t need to know you to notice you have some growing up to do. Your childish behavior is pretty much all over the place.

First, reacting like a Belieber when you thought I was bashing the Vita… when I was not. Second, blaming me for saying stuff I didn’t say (I never said the Vita had no games). Third, labeling me as “3DS fanboy” just because I don’t agree with you… when you obviously don’t have even the slightest clue about what consoles I do or do not own.

Also, you could never use that “argument”. You’re clearly biased… and BTW, you can’t even do sarcasm well.

    • MrSirFeatherFang
