The Costumes, Oh So Many Costumes, In New Atelier Rorona

By Eugene . November 20, 2013 . 3:01pm

Continuing the countdown for New Atelier Rorona: Origin Story of the Alchemist of Arland, the latest video on the game shows off lots and lots of costume changes for all characters—from swimsuits to more mundane wear—as well as the cross-play feature that lets you take your game anywhere if you have a copy of the game on both PS3 and Vita.

If you’re the sort who wanders off from a game for weeks or months and then completely forgot what you were doing, they also show off the message log system which tracks every major conversation in the game for you to quickly find your place.

There’s also an included illustration collection page for you to unlock and collect all the varied drawings and illustrations – particularly nice since it shows off concept drawings for character art!

  • TheExile285

Welp, TheExile sure does love costumes ^____^

  • taekk

So do they come with the game or is it DLC?

    • Kumiko Akimoto

      both

  • Chrystofax

    Sounds realllllly good.

  • Monterossa

    Localize, Now!!

    • Slayven19

Woah there, let them get Atelier dusk out first which is confirmed for sometime early next year. I’m sure this will come as well but I want to enjoy that first.

      • Loli Summoner

        I’m with ya bro.

  • http://epiclyamazing.wordpress.com/ AzureNova

    Very pretty ^_^

  • Kumiko Akimoto

No one complains about this being a dress up game

    • Raos

because haters are too busy whining against SE

    • Arcana Wiz

Cause i dont know how they can complain in this one, in LR FF XIII even though i like it, they have a point, Light turned from a Character with no fansevice that represented… bla bla… to Someone who makes silly poses in costumes (even though i like it XD)

Atelier series really combine with these features… AND the fanbase is different duhhh.

    • Rogerrmark

I’m more and more convinced each day that the FF fanbase really don’t have a clue why they still play FF anymore, lol.Besides arguing on the internet.(I’m looking forward for both this and LRFFXIII,btw)

      • Monterossa

They probably don’t know that it’s a Japanese game made by a Japanese company. So they’re complaining about its fanservices while the other Japanese companies doing the same thing (for decades).

    • Solomon_Kano

Because the same people who are fine with this aren’t necessarily the people who take issue with that? Or because the games in question are rather different in general? Or because they have different reasons for not liking it in that game?

There are any number of rather clear reasons for that.

      • http://linkapics.tumblr.com/ Linka

Yeah, pretty much this. The Arland series especially is pretty lighthearted, so having silly dress-ups or bikini outfits actually isn’t really weird. On the other hand, with a more serious series like Final Fantasy… yeah.

Generally people at least understand the marked difference between an Atelier game and a FF game.

        • FlyingPony

The dress was optional, which mean serious gamer can play in the serious outfit… and some goofy gamer and the player replay the game in different mood, can have their way.

That is what great about having the option.

Also, did you forget Cloud of FF7 (one of the serious, darker Final Fantasy) was wearing woman cloth?

It look different and do not suit Cloud at all, but didn’t damage his reputation or the other things as some people that anti Lighting optional dress claimed.

          • http://linkapics.tumblr.com/ Linka

Iiii, think Cloud’s bit in crossdressing is a little different? I think there’s a difference between Cloud doing that at a fairly early point in the game where he was introduced, and namely, before the much more serious elements of the game came into play… and the whole dressing up business with Lightning after she’s been established through a couple full games.

Yeah, it’s optional (and so are the costumes in Atelier), but it’s still admittedly a little weird either way. I don’t even like FFXIII really (tried to play it, and it didn’t click at all), and I think it’s kinda strange.

    • [S]unjΔy of Equestria

This is not a dress up game, it’s an epic JRPG….

      • Kumiko Akimoto

I can’t tell if serious or not. The arland series main focus isn’t even the combat.

        • [S]unjΔy of Equestria

The main focus isn’t the dressing either.

          • Kumiko Akimoto

Neither is lightning returns, though calling this an epic jrpg is a bit much.

          • [S]unjΔy of Equestria

I don’t know, my love for the Atelier series is unmatched….so much moe.

          • Kumiko Akimoto

It’s nice in that regard but i wouldn’t recommend it for the rpg parts

  • Sentsuizan_93

Yup! As someone who is really enjoying Meruru+ right now, I’m gonna wait for this to hopefully get picked up by Tecmo Koei.

  • Bell

I love how more games are starting to do this. Seeing characters wearing the same clothes all the damn time gets old. Variety is the spice of life, after all.

    • AkiraScare

My same though and im not complaining about the bikinis (^_^) but i also like cute dresses on them XD

  • http://moonlitasteria.wordpress.com/ Moonlitasteria

I welcome the log the feature, since I often had trouble keeping tabs of what I was doing ending requirement wise in Meruru after taking an extended break. Looking forward to seeing the full game in action.

  • John Diamond

what’s a jrpg without your obligatory beach outfit????

    • British_Otaku

What is any game without your obligatory beach outfit????
The Attack on Titan 3DS game seems to have caught on too with optional costumes.

  • wererat42

I wonder if the headwear is separate from the costumes.

    • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

They were (separate things) in Atelier Meruru, so I’m sure they are here as well~.

  • ShootThatWay

Loving this New Atelier Rifle more and more. I mean Rorona.

  • Gekokujou

    Must… get… game…

  • Dark Zerato

I don’t think any of the girls would wear a swimsuit on the battle field, except for Astrid. Poor girls, they are reduced to dressing dolls for fan service.

    • Kumiko Akimoto

As far i know the costumes don’t actually effect anything but the appearance so it’s not that big of a deal and you were half right the only cannon people who would wear swimsuits like that are astrid and mel

    • Loli Summoner

I think rorona could be convinced though, shes pretty carefree and if you forgot, she was in the swimsuit contest in atelier totori oh and totori was in it herself.

  • SerendipityX

Please tell me the girls have more normal outfits? Grrr. >.<

    • M’iau M’iaut

Can we let these be if we make a call and make sure Sterk gets a speedo?

      • SerendipityX

        …You drive a hard bargain sir but I’ll take it. ( ̄ー ̄)

        • M’iau M’iaut

I’ll put Fang on it right away.

          • MrSirFeatherFang

            Okay…

          • SerendipityX

Hope your small weak body can handle it. ヽ(´ー`)┌

          • MrSirFeatherFang

It can handle running, I don’t see why not :V

          • SerendipityX

Take it slow, we don’t wanna harm that baby soft skin~

          • Zero_Destiny

I thought that’s exactly what we wanted to do.

            (´ ▽`).。o♡

          • Solomon_Kano

            Just like pen pal-kun, eh?

          • SerendipityX

…you love bringing that up don’t you? (;一_一)

          • Solomon_Kano

            Kano remembers everything. ʘ‿ʘ

          • SerendipityX

            ….( ゚ Д゚)

          • Zero_Destiny

Put him on a Speedo? O___o

    • Slayven19

Depends on what you consider normal my friend. However I do prefer that they not make so many swimsuits, you can make cute costumes without them being swimsuits.

      • SerendipityX

All the outfits they showed seemed unbearably small. I really love Rorona’s original outfit. I really like the Viking looking outfit though. I really like Cory’s outfits for example.

  • Croix Zapp

know this is kinda out of topic.
but will i get more costumes along the way in atelier totori plus? i only have the nurse outfit >_<

  • http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/recognition/21421.html?type=4 Kashell

    Fierce.

  • artemisthemp

I hope Tecmo Koei is bring both PS3 and PS Vita version of this game to the west

  • Pichi

Would have liked if the armor clothes you made were wearable in battles to spice of the variety of clothes even more.
