Tekken Director Katsuhiro Harada Tweets About A Discarded Character

By Eugene . November 21, 2013 . 2:31pm

Tekken director Katsuhiro Harada was taking to Twitter and discussing some odd things relating to a character that appears to have been rejected from a game he was involved in. When asked if changing the way the character was portrayed might get it featured, he noted that the rejection came “a while back” and showed off a sketch that was surprisingly well-drawn. It was a shot of a girl called Ganmi in… a school swimsuit.

People began clamoring for him to do something about it and asking who on Earth would have said no to putting a character like that in a game (do note, though, it’s never made explicit that this was even about Tekken in the first place).

Harada then issues a challenge—although, whether he’s ready for the ramifications of it or not is going to be fun to find out. If his post with the girl gets “about 1000 retweets” he says he’ll “go try and re-convince [the necessary staff],” although whether he’s serious, successful or about to pull one on us… well, we’ll find out if we hit the mark eh?

Is this about that Namco dating sim crossover game perhaps?

    • It would be damn awesome if they found some excuse to work her into Namco High.

Come to think of it, I wonder if there’s gonna be an official Japanese version of that game?

  • MasterScrub

Ganmi… was that the sumo idol girl who looked up to Ganryu that was one of the options in that Tekken Revolution poll?

    • leingod

      I would’ve liked that :D

    • Gojira Twit

Yeah, that’s who she is. Just look up the old Tekken Revolution character poll. I think I voted for her, actually.

And that poll was made up of rejected Tekken characters, so she is definitely from that series. It’s not clear how long ago the idea was conceived.

Wait… just hold on right there…
      – Cute girl
      – School swimsuit
      – Sumo idol + adore Ganryu

  • But-but she’s too cute to be discarded :3

    • TheGioG

It’s really the eyes. Well, off to my (multiple) Twitter accounts. Pretty darn hopeful that something can be done with Swimsuit-chan here in future Tekken games.

      • Her special will be called “Super Kawaii”. She stares at her opponent in such a way that their heart explodes from affection lol

    • Aoshi00

so cute, and I like her name “Ganmi” too, reminds me of Sasaki Kojiro’s Ganryu style :)

  • JohnNiles

Nothing riles up fans like concept art/discarded characters. Is this all just as planned?

  • RablaAndrews

    Oh, Ganmi is pretty cute.

Though, I stand by my successful vote for the Vampire. Looking forward to that.

  • icecoffemix

    Too moe

Am I the only one who thought “Oh god, not another typical Japanese cliche character!”?

    • fairysun

Yes, it’s too typical Japanese female teenager character.

    • Göran Isacson

      No. No you were not.

  • Is anyone else thinking she looks really 1980s style?
