Atlus Reveals A New Persona 4 Dancing Rhythm Game For PlayStation Vita

By Sato . November 24, 2013 . 3:34am

In addition to Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth, Atlus also announced Persona 4: Dancing All Night, a PlayStation Vita dancing rhythm game. Persona 4 characters Rise Kujikawa, Yu Narukami, and others will be some of the stars in the upcoming game.

The game developed by Atlus and Dingo won’t be just about the dancing, but it’ll also have its own story related to Persona 4.

Persona 4: Dancing All Night is slated for release in fall of 2014.

  • icecoffemix

Also new arena game for PS3, but I guess you’re writing about it.

  • SigmaNHK

    10/10 Atlus, will buy

  • Strain42

…Okay, Persona Q I will admit I have some excitement for…this does not sound appealing.

    • Brian Woods

I don’t see this one making it across the ocean.

      • Strain42

I dunno. I could see it happening. I mean for one it’s Persona, for two it’s Person FOUR, and for three Hatsune Miku seems to be a thing overseas now…so…y’know…maybe.

        • Brian Woods

Point taken. I guess I can just be happy they’re making something else for Vita?

      • tubers

        Who knows. Project DIva did.

      • Brandonmkii

If Neptunia PP can make it here I am 1000% sure this will.

    • Shippoyasha

Sega lending music/rhythm expertise and dancing engine (look closely, the dancing aspects are done extremely well), Persona music. Persona characters dancing.

I’m SOLD. I want it now.

      • Strain42

I admit I’m not a huge rhythm game guy, but I often said I would be intrigued if they did a game based on Rise’s life as an idol, and this seems like a fine way to go.

I’m laughing so hard my eyes are red and full of tears.

    • The P4 main character dancing made me laugh. So earnest. Neat tunes though.

  • Shane Guidaboni

This goes against everything the Persona name stands for.

    • Alexander Marquis Starkey

Um no, ever since 4 this series has been a cash cow that Atlus has been milking.

      • Shane Guidaboni

        Don’t care anymore. P5 announced.

      • LightZero

I always said that P4 was being pimped out but I wasn’t expecting this.

      • Demeanor

I’m perfectly fine with milking the series if the games they come up with are varied and quality stuff! They’re giving variety by exploring different genres (fighting with P4G, rhythm with this), and there’s definitely been quality until now! Plus, P5 announced for PS3 cleans anything away! XD (why so damn in the distant future though???)

  • icecoffemix

At least Souji, or w/e his name now, looks glorious.

    • Raltrios

      Yu is fecking suave there!

    • Altin

He lives up to his Anime-swag.

    • Byron Kerrison II

      He looks faaaabulous~

    • ShawnOtakuSomething

hhahaha Yu is a damn Pimp!

      • Anthony Birken

        He’s the king~

    • DeadLineDance

This is the greatest thing and I want it in a higher res nowwww

    • LaserVision

The first thing I thought was where is my Yu screen shot. Thank you.

    • SmokeScreen

You have established the Disco King Social Link of the Swag Arcana

    • Yu is the man every woman wants every man wants to be.

  • Thrasher429

They trolled us so hard was gutted when this showed up but then that timer that said 55:555 showed up and all was forgiven…..trolled us so damn hard

  • Prinnydoom

Huh. So this is what it feels like to be blindsided. Damn. (just to clarify this isn’t a negative thing just didn’t see it coming >_<)

  • Shippoyasha

I’ll just say it: It’s cool. It’s Sega’s dancing game expertise mixed with Persona.

Plus, Persona 5 is announced for PS3 Winter 2014 guys. Take a breather.

  • Tatsuya Fabre

    PERSONA 5 FOR PS3!!!

  • Kaitou21

i feel sorry for all those vita owners who thought they would be getting P5

  • I died…

  • Kumiko Akimoto

I wouldn’t mind playing this honestly

  • artemisthemp

I hope this makes outside Japan

    • I hope so too but Atlus USA have been good with their parent company’s titles. I think Nora to Toki (summer 2011, 3DS) is the last time they skipped one of their internally developed games.

      • artemisthemp

NISA seem to be localization their game

      • I think the problem with Nora to Toki was just that it was a DS game. Or maybe it wasn’t particularly good? I know very little about it.

        • I meant DS, my bad. Yeah it was an odd spinoff between Atlus and Gust, didn’t light the charts in Japan either. I was a little bummed, nowhere near as pissed as the Growlanser no-show though.

          • It’s tough with the games on older systems. We’re lucky we’ve gotten a few of these PSP games thanks to the PSN!

  • Kami nii

I don’t know if I would be sad or happy I actually like the idea of a new different genre for vita not only DJ max and Miku I guess I’m happy cause I would still but it :) , and with conception 2 coming too

  • Break dancing Igor ftw.

    • AuraGuyChris

      the Veeeeelvet Room.

    • Ace Esper

Does he get to face off against break dancing Eggman? That’s GOTY material right there.

  • Sentsuizan_93

    “Story related to Persona 4”

    Oh boy.

    • DragKudo

Probably takes place between th true end eand the golden end.
or before the events of persona 4 but then that wouldn’t explain yu being there. lol

    • DeadLineDance

Atlus. The only company that makes wacky spin-offs… and then insists on them making canonical sense.

  • AndyFe

At first I laughed at this but I would get this because I love persona 4 and Rhythm games. Also if it’s about Rise than that’s all the better.

  • Roberto

You know i really want play this

  • Nicolas Simonpietri

I look forward for some exploitation of the main SMT licence. I can’t wait for ” Shin Megami IV : Lucifer bento master” and ” Shin Megami : Kagutsuchi’s dance floor”

  • Croix Zapp

  • serpentear

But but I want demon dancing game :(

  • Byron Kerrison II

    I like rhythm games.
Hopefully it gets a PSN release… In the U.S.

    • Why not retail? Why not both?

      • Byron Kerrison II

Not to be pessimistic but I just can’t see this game getting a retail release overseas…

    • ShadowDivz

Why just the US? Why not Canada too? What about Europe?
      Selfish bastard.

      • Dinoegg96

        What about Mexico???

        • Nintendo Of North Korea

          What about North Korea?

      • Byron Kerrison II

        You’re right. I’m sorry. :(
I hope this gets a worldwide release!

  • AuraGuyChris

Will Yosuke dance with a trash can on?

    • Punny Fuzz

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

Wait…. wait wait!! hold on!! Am I the only one who wanted a to see a Persona 4 pop idol game since the PS2 era?

  • Warren

Will get if comes to US, just addicted to persona

    • Kaetsu

If it comes to NA then I’m buying a Vita.

      • The dancing spinoff game makes you buy a Vita and not Persona 4 itself? Seems legit.

  • JonathanisPrimus

Vita owners buy a lot of P4G
Atlus rewards them with a rhythm game
    Gee thanks

    • ShadowDivz

      Was that sarcasm?

      • JonathanisPrimus

    • Omnicidal Neutral

Looks like a pretty great reward to me.

  • Rabbit

There’s a story? Sequence! Timeline! Chronology! Before Q? After Q? Before Suplex? Before Arena? Which is it!?

    • After all of the above, most likely.

    • Kaetsu

Well Q is probably bot canon due to the fact that Theo and Shinjiro make an appearance however this looks like it is. I think it happens after Persona 4 Golden’s good ending when Rise is back in show business. That would mean it’s after the first Arena.

      • Rabbit

Well I’ll just assume P4 -> Arena -> Suplex -> P4D ->P5 and take Q as some Sentai-like reunion fanservice game taking place after P4.

  • Raidou

As long as they put good music like Kimi no Tonari, Change You Way, etc then it’s good for me.

  • TheAnswerisback

Its funny because if it was just this and Persona Q that were announced and no persona 5 ……all I can say is people wouldn’t be so optimistic about this game

  • Yan Zhao

…………………………………so when do I place my order?

  • Engi3Piece

Just let the awesome music flow through you.

  • Baylfire

I’ve never played this type of game before nor have I put much thought into them but this game piqued my interest! I hope it gets localized, and some P3 characters put into the mix.

  • NimbusStev

Given that all of the other games announced were likely well into development before recently, it’s safe to say this is the first true Sega/Atlus game. If this is the direction they plan on going, I’m more than a little bit worried…

    • Omnicidal Neutral

It’s literally one rhythm game, developed by a company known for making really good rhythm games.

Why are most Atlus fans so overreactive?

      • NimbusStev

It always starts with ‘just one’ offshoot game. I’m sure people thought SquareEnix fans were overreacting when they complained about the “one game” that started Final Fantasy’s descent, and just look at that train wreck of a series now. They’ve got revered developers working on cell phone card games.

In all honesty, this looks like a fun, silly little pick-up-and-play game. If Atlus has to make these type of games on the side in order to fund stuff like SMT4 and Persona5, then so be it. But I’m just apprehensive that the success of a game like this could end up altering the main focus of the franchise, in order to further serve Sega’s ‘business plan.’

      • I can actually relate to a lot of the concerns being voiced about this game. Atlus are one of the few remaining RPG developers that still make games for an older audience, so seeing Persona join the likes of Idolmaster and Project Diva doesn’t fill me with confidence.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen something along these lines either. If you look at the difference between Persona 3 and Persona 4, it’s very evident that the series transitioned from its SMT roots to something that’s far more focused on anime fans. Persona 4, especially after The Golden, is uncomfortably close to turning into Tales.

I mean, yes, ultimately fanservice = sales = money and all of that, but setting the sales argument aside for just one second, I think it’s fair to say that Atlus have cheapened Persona 4’s worldview considerably since the original game. It isn’t just “one game,” it’s a trend that they’ve been following for a few years now.

I just hope Shin Megami Tensei avoids doing the same.

        • M’iau M’iaut

What has been done with P4 to make it a ‘franchise’ within itself is definitely food for thought. Yet, I can also note the pastel palette is not there in the P5 tease. Those are Nocture’s colors.

        • Omnicidal Neutral

Persona has been its own beast for a while now, yes. It’s targeted towards a certain crowd now, and that’s not really a problem. Persona needed an identity other than “SMT’s high school student younger brother”.

SMT is SMT, Persona is Persona. Persona does not affect SMT because SMT’s fans are staunchly still of the older crowd. It’s rather silly to expect Persona to start bleeding into SMT at any point.

  • Linhua

… we didn’t ask for this… but given the soundtrack of the series… this was very necessary… and I may even get it .-. Rise is partly to blame as well though.

  • SmokeScreen

    Japanese Trailer

  • Seems Rhythm games are very popular in Japan. Hatsune Miku, Hyperdimension Neptunia and now this game. Awesome.
