Drakengard 3 Is Loaded With Side Quests

By Spencer . November 24, 2013 . 11:34pm

draken3-07When you’re not committing sororicide, Zero can complete side quests in Drakengard 3. Developer Access Games added these extra missions with missions such as collecting certain item drops from enemies within a set time or fetching items from treasure chests. Some of the side quests have restrictions like forcing Zero to only use her sword or a rule that prevents her from using items.

Some side quests act like a bonus stages where you fight waves of enemies and earn rewards depending on how many you takedown. Side quests are graded and the reward you get depends on how well you do.

Drakengard 3 is slated for release on December 19 in Japan. Square Enix announced they will bring the game to the West next year.

On that second image. Where the coins fly around. That “text” in the center of the screen. Looks like the “text” you can see in Nier somewhere! I love Nier!

    • kyubey777

That is Drakengard’s Text, If you play D1 you will understand.

Editt: ohwait i though you talk about targer cusor, whops—

      • Tom

Ohh, cool. I have only played Drakengard 1 for a couple of hours. I’ve yet to complete D1 and D2. But I completed Nier so that’s why it’s familiar from that game.

  • Dark Zerato

I like dating sim side quests. Going on a date with Zero is the best.

  • JustThisOne

Aha, when the coins are flying around, it reminds me of the coin mode in the Smash Bro games. :V

Anyway, I hope they’re varied side quests and not just “Beat Up This Enemy” and “Deliver This Item”. Maybe they’ve got some story to it?

  • Shippoyasha

I’m totally up for sidequests as long as it’s not like Nier’s insufferable, torturous item fetch quests and praying/hoping for a rare drop to happen. Never again.

  • As long as there’s additional dialogue, I’ll probably make most of them. NieR’s optional dialogues were just… amazing XDDDD

  • Rayhan PromisedGallery

aaah, i never able to farm White Moonflower… that’s the only sidequest that i NEVER finished

    • Rayhan PromisedGallery

and the result of most sidequest:

      • Mace

I farmed an entire field of Lunar Tears before rescuing Yonah. Not for necessity, just because I wanted to. I love that game… I only missed one sidequest in NieR, and it was the one where you had to get a feather or egg from the mountainside town before you reach the end of the first half of the game.

        • Rayhan PromisedGallery

quitting the game, set ps3 clock, loading the game, watching him farming (he’s freaking slow), rinse and repeat is just total pain..

hell, i even never able to get pink moonflower. I must be a really unlucky person

    • Mr_SP

I managed to get the White Moonflower. Annoying, but do-able, and I don’t think it even took more than a couple hours. I even managed to make boatloads of money that way. But levelling all the swords? No, sir, I do not want to spend 10 hours hunting for screws and hexagons.

      • Oh gods. That would count as a side quest? Then I didn’t do all the quests XD I got 100%, but I definitely didn’t bother leveling everything.

        • Mr_SP

You only get a trophy… So, no, I don’t think people would count it. But it definitely sounded like a pain in the ass.

    • The main problem I had with the White Moonflower was that I found the guide online (gamefaqs) wasn’t correct. I had to resort to another guide to do it… Then it went really quickly.

    • Aoshi00

I loved Nier’s sidequests and stories.. I don’t like the timed and missable ones, like Tomb Raider, I missed having one optional conversation for “Chatterbox” and need to play thru the whole game again.. GTA5 had a 10-step “Kifflom” achievement too (one step was sleeping for 40 times and the other running in the desert for 5 miles lol).. depending on the very last thing you do, could get you nothing or a lot of money for your trouble lol.. as much as I love Nier, I still miss one weapon for Ending D *.*;, and too lazy to get back to it.. Replicant still on backlog as well..

  • Suriel Cruz

“…restrictions like forcing Zero to only use her sword or a rule that prevents her from using items.”… “Side quests are graded and the reward you get depends on how well you do.” Yup! PAIN IN THE ASS.

    • The first is kind of like the trials in that temple in Nier, while the second isn’t anything new to the world of RPG…

  • OrkoTheBlackMage

So is it true Drakengard 3 is a Square-Enix store exclusive?

    • haku67

Right now it is. maybe other stores will start having it up for preorder as well :/

    • mockturtle

It might be, but even Amazon and GameStop don’t have any item pages for games that come out as soon as February (Professor Layton 6, et al), so it might be they’ve just not added it to their catalogs yet.

At any rate, I don’t care if it requires going to the moon, but I hope SOMEONE carries a limited edition like they’re getting in Japan.

    • Lyralei

This says otherwise. It is not available at the sister stores (Gamestop other EB games), so either it’s a mistake, or Austrialia is the only PAL territory that is getting a physical copy. This could mean it will come to Gamestops and EB games before release.

Edit: Turns out that EBgames Australia only stocks physical copies, and not download keys. Drakengard 3 is not a Square Enix Store exclusive, I believe.

  • fairysun

“When you’re not committing sororicide, …”

When an article is started with that sentence, it’s a must read article. :D

And I almost spill my morning coffee because of that.

  • mockturtle

I’m gonna call it right now, Drakengard 3 will come out either in July or October 2014. The original Drakengard came out in America six months after its Japanese release, and Drakengard 2 eight months. Therefore, they’ll either split the difference for Drakengard 3 at seven months, or carry on the pattern of the first two and have it be ten months.

In the unlikely event I’m right, I’m coming back to this comment and using it as proof of my psychic ability.

  • firstarioch

I’m getting Japanese limited edition plus first edition strategy guidebook .

Drakengard 3 can’t come soon enough.
Plenty of juice left in ps3,. I will get ps4 but when thief 4 comes out also warthunder and warframe look very promising ….
X1,is dead duck. Very underdeveloped system with underpowered specs that show already. Waste of goodvmoney .
Will get better graphic card for my pc for that money .pc , ps4,combo is way to go this generation .

    • Aoshi00

I pre-ordered the LE & guide for Drakengard 3 as well, also pre-ordered the US ver from S-E’s site. I actually like my XB1 quite much, it has more games I want to play now, played it all day on the weekend. Would get PS4 later when better games come.

  • Magus KilIer

I hope they are as depressing as the ones from Nier

  • Göran Isacson

Memories of the first Drakengard and those long, dull hours spent leveling up all the weapons… awakening…

  • Living

Lol at acting like these were good things. They sucked so bad. Some of the worst most pointless, generic, empty sidequests ever. And to add insult to injury some were mind numbingly frustrating to the point you wonder if they only wanted to troll the player, hmmm…
