To Type, Or Not To Type, That Is The Zombie Killing Question

2013-11-21_00002_1385115785Sega stealth released The Typing of the Dead: Overkill, a sequel to the keyboard training game with The House of the Dead: Overkill as a base. The game showed up on Steam just in time for Halloween and today it’s getting a multiplayer update.

The patch adds a two player competitive story mode and multiplayer mini-games. Sega also has a Shakespeare of the Dead DLC pack that changes text from UNICORNS to lines from Hamlet and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Only a concept as wacky as The Typing of the Dead could pull this off. Shakespeare of the Dead costs $2.99 and is the first of many lexicon packs for The Typing of the Dead: Overkill. We expect other royalty free literary works to rise from the grave for the game in the future.

… I have to admit, that “Shakespeare” DLC pack is a really fun idea. Think I’ll have to get my hands on this game, if only because I played a Typing of the Dead looong ago and loved seeing how fast and accurate I could type.

I actually found an arcade machine, and no, I am not making it up.

Complete with QWERTY? Next time, take a photo.

Aight, but did spot one at Arcade Infinity, prior its closure.

        • ShinStar

Yeah I saw it there too. I didn’t play it but my sister and nephew did lol.

    • I know you aren’t. The original was actually covered on GCCX, Arino tried playing one in an arcade while headed towards the Northernmost part of Japan. Dual keyboards and everything. Looked pretty interesting.

  • This series should be far more recognized than it currently is. Very underrated right now.

Sega, why must you tease us Shenmue fans… T^T

    • fairysun

One of the cruel torture method for Shenmue fans.

Does multiplayer happen to support two keyboards on the same PC? Maybe it seems strange, but that’s how I’m used to enjoying Typing of the Dead (on Dreamcast, that is).

I love that this exists, the game and especially this DLC. Here’s hoping Sega do silly stuff like this every once in a while from here on, the industry needs some levity.
