The Massive Final Fantasy XI, Dragon Quest X, And Final Fantasy XIV Crossover Detailed

By Spencer . November 27, 2013 . 12:19am

Square Enix is having a crossover between their three main MMORPGs that brings slimes into Final Fantasy XI’s world Vana’diel and Moogles into Dragon Quest X.

A sage from Dragon Quest X will take a Great Ark visit Final Fantasy XI looking for a lost slime. This will have a Monstrosity event (a feature that lets players control monsters) where you can play as a Blue Slime. You can also get special Slime gear.

Also, Spriggan, a monster from the world of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will suddenly show up in Vana’diel. It seems the Moogles can talk to Spriggans. Just like the Blue Slime, players will be able to control the Final Fantasy XIV monster using a Monstrosity. Players can get Spriggan equipment too.

Meanwhile in Final Fantasy XIV, Shantotto, a powerful Tarutaru black mage from Final Fantasy XI who has her own expansion pack, shows up in Eorzea. Players can fight Shantotto in a FATE (Full Active Time Event) and if you defeat her she can join you as a minion. Minions are basically Final Fantasy XIV’s pets, so it’s kind of weird having an all powerful mage reduced to that.

Another FATE has players fight Golems from Dragon Quest X and if you win you get a tiny Golem minion.

Because Shantotto is all powerful she also shows up in Dragon Quest X. If you help her find materials for black magic you can get a Chocobo hat.

A moogle from Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will give Dragon Quest X players a quest too. Complete this and you can get a Cactaur Mask.

The crossovers being on December 11 with content from FFXIV and DQX meandering into Final Fantasy XI. Two more Final Fantasy XI events are slated for 2014. Dragon Quest X will have the Final Fantasy XI crossover between mid January and mid February. The Dragon Quest X and Final Fantasy XIV crossover (the moogle) will take place afterwards in mid February to mid March. The two crossovers for Final Fantasy XIV will take place in the end of January to early February 2014.

Damn…I’d consider resubbing to get that Shantoto minion…

    Good work, Square-enix.

    • John Diamond

my pc isn’t strong enough for any of those games D:

my 2006 Sony Vaio I just dug out of storage (Former ps2 player of XI here) is running FFXI. It’s not too bad really, if you don’t care about graphics, any computer as old as that will run it reliably with decent settings and just buy a 20-30 buck usb controller (love the feel of a controller in my hands personally) and you’re good to go.

      • Matthew Bryant

FFXI came out over 10 years ago, a $250 computer can run it just fine.

        • John Diamond

do you still have to pay for a subscription?

          • Matthew Bryant

            Yep, $12.95 a month I believe.

          • John Diamond

now that, i cannot afford ;(

  • JonathanisPrimus

Experience Dragon Quest for the first (and likely only) time on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 4 video game consoles!

  • SuperSailorV

Damn that. I want slimes in FFXIV.

    Shantotto’s good, too, though.

  • Zangetsu777

    Nice

  • James Williams

Any chance this will tie into the PS4 version of FFXIV, i don’t really want to re-sub till that’s out.

    • Dr. Hunky Jimpjorps

All versions of FFXIV share the same content and servers. However, this event won’t happen in time for the PS4 version release, since that’s coming out late February.

      • James Williams

        Well shoot!

  • BizarreJelly

    Shantotto minion… Do want!

  • Seven of The Scions

Seriously cool, they always give more updates.

Of course Square-Enix surely needs more variation in end game.
As for current patch i repeatedly doing same dungeons over and over again, good things I have a lot’s of friends to have fun playing with.

But Looks like there’s nice updates in patch 2.1

    More event and more updates.
    Keep on going!!!
I’ll support you all the way!~

Seems odd to bring a part of XI into XIV, considering XIV is just what XI would be if it were actually well designed.

I seriously love XIV. The last bunch of times I’ve been playing I’ve done a whole bunch of stuff without ever fighting. Gathering and crafting is just as fun as the combat (plus the income from selling your stuff is pretty nice!).

I’ve heard a lot of horror stories about the leveling and interface in XI but one thing you can’t argue is that it certainly was unique.

yeah lvling is a bit easier now, (playing since early 2003 here)

I remember with a full time job, (35-40 hr work week) and full time in college, it took me roughly 2 years to hit my “first lv75″ (Max lvl cap at the time)

Now you can hit the cap (99) in about a week with that same schedule (1-2 days at the most if you’re REALLY dedicated) and although your skills will suffer you can easily lvl those out on your own on slightly “easy prey’ or “even match” mobs that have very little chance of killing you with some cheap gear here and there.

Bonus points if you already have a prior job that has those skill sets lvl’d for you and transfer into your new 99 job, basically half the work is done for you by the second/third go around since you CANT play the game at endgame lvl with only 1-2 99 jobs ><)

The interface… yeah, nothing much to say about it other than "it's an acquired taste you either love or put up with XD.

XI was well designed. Keep in mind that it came out in 2002.

      • Bunzi

11 years later and it still feels like something out of tree past, for better and worse.

  • Jonah Paley

I bet the Shantotto minion is just a Shantotto doll, like the one that “Shantotto” turns out to be if you defeat her in that Heroine Combat special event in XI/If you play as her and get defeated in the Dissidia series.

  • Kumiko Akimoto

To get insulted and laughed at even though she’s more powerful then me?
This is the best thing ever i love that adorable bitch.

  • Red Antares

I want to be able to play Dragon Quest X T_T

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

This is probably one funny and great collab here.^_^ Each of the online game supporting each other is something we rarely see here and, i really hope that S-E will keep supporting these three titles.^_^

To me, it was destiny that Shantotto were to be in an Akira Toriyama-style game! Look at the future of Shounen Final Fantasy right here!

    • Sydney Losstarot

lol, I laughed so hard when I saw Terra in that picture. Man-Terra…is she in a contest with Man Faye. Vaan looks funny too. Actually a lot of them look funny. Vaan would get along with Kanji Tatsumi from Persona 4 just fine. Actually a lot of the male FF characters would be enjoyable for Kanji. I am just remembering the scene if FF7 where Cloud goes into the Bumble Bee Inn to get the bikini briefs, lol. and the date with Barret was great, comedy was one of the many things that made FF7 great. I wish there were funny moments like that in up and coming FF games.

  • Sydney Losstarot

I don’t get the charm that Shantotto has over people. Maybe because I never played ff11 but she seems rather annoying in Dissidia, I always wanted to kick her and tell her to go away when ever she was in a cut scene. I love golems and slimes though.
