Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Coming To PlayStation 4 In April 2014

By Sato . December 3, 2013 . 1:00am

In addition to producer Naoki Yoshida’s recent talks on upcoming changes to Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, the adventurers of Eorzea will be welcoming new faces when the game officially launches on PlayStation 4 in April 2014.

Prior to the release, Square Enix will start a Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn beta test for PlayStation 4 on February 22, the same day the console launches in Japan.

Yoshida previously announced that players who purchased the PlayStation 3 version of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will be able to upgrade to the PlayStation 4 version for free. However, players that upgrade to the PS4 version will lose the rights to play the PlayStation 3 version.

        • animedemon

yes u can choose the server u want to login from the list u can even jump in the jp server if u dont mind lag

          • Kai2591

            ok thanks

      • Kai2591

one more thing: does Japanese players have their own servers or do they share servers with ‘the west’?

        • Daniel

          They have their own servers

        • Ferrick

technically they have seperated servers but you can pick japanese servers too, no region block

          • Kai2591

            awesome. thanks.

          • Brion Valkerion

They have them in separate categories simply to give players the heads up of “hey this server is located in a different country, you might get more lag” but like the other guy said, threes nothing stopping you from choosing them.

          • Kai2591

alright. thanks for the info :)

  • Zangetsu777

    Is this April 2014 worldwide?

    • Brion Valkerion

international mmo so most likely since other regions will already have a ps4 available.

  • Kornelious

I like how it’s free and all but whats up with Sony’s have for backwards compatibility, it’s PS3 or PS4, not both apparently.

    • KHSoraKeyBlade

Eh, I wouldn’t really blame Sony for this (well except for the ps4 not being able to play PS3 games thing). If you own the PS3 version Square are essentially saying you can upgrade to the PS4 version for free and thus it’ll render your PS3 copy useless.

Square are just offering this as an alternative. The other being buy the PS4 version and you can just add it to your account and keep your PS3 copy as well. Like at the moment if you want to play FF14 on both PC and PS3 (with one account) you have to own both copies of the game.

  • artemisthemp

Looking forward to playing Final Fantasy XIV on PS4, instead of PS3 :)

  • PRGamerCub

i hope its not for a limited time! like the world transfer lol

  • Teepo 64

    Thank the twelve!

FFXIV is only $10 on PSN in the US for PS+. $10 is far cheaper than what it will likely cost on PS4. Plus you wouldnt have to activate till PS4 version to keep your free 30 days. I play on PC, but purchased this for Aprils release.

I have nothing good to say about this game after my account being hacked, then banned because the person that hacked it used my character as a mining bot. Then they told me to resolve the account lock issue I had to call their customer service line which after waiting 2 hours on the phone I gave up, later I read online that their average wait for customer support was from 3 to 5 hours! The game is only mediocre at best (Tera has MUCH better graphics & game mechanics), nothing rewarding at high end, repetitive game play, OH also spammers making your gaming experience miserable trying to sell the scarce gold for real life money! or how about the farmers killing quest NPCs you need… Be warned if you are hoping to buy this game.

    • Ferrick

there are so many inconsistencies in this post, i’m not even sure on where to start

      • Vash bane

but is it true? are others getting hacked?

      • Hector Velar

inconsistensies like what? yes it is all true, I was very chronological about events how they happened with my account being hacked. go ahead bro, my post is only a paragraph long, if you are so smart go and pick a point to start or maybe you are not smart and you are just trying to be a smart a$$. You don’t know where to start, maybe don’t post. Yes it is true, wanna test it call their customer support yourself if you don’t believe me. Oh ferrick I found so many inconsistencies in your post…I don’t know where to start, sorry I have nothing intelligent to say about it.

        • Ferrick

          1. it’s your own fault for not using the security token, at this day and age, it’s easy for people to brute force into your account

          2. gotta give credit where it’s due, SE’s customer service sucks and i got a good laugh out of that

          3. “Tera has MUCH better graphics & game mechanics” is also retarded

          4. ” nothing rewarding at high end, repetitive gameplay” and yet you use Tera as the off-setter for this ? yeah, don’t make me laugh

          5. “or how about the farmers killing quest NPCs you need” this is also false, you cannot kill Quest giving NPCs

          6. that gamefaqs link

          • Hector Velar

1> you are assuming I did not use security tokens. For all i know I had good security on my side, even better than most average players. maybe is their side that they need to work with. since it is a common issue(look it up).

2> you agreed with me there
3> comparing texture, lighting, models, yes Tera is much better being and it is an older game. It is not stupid, you may argue that is openiated but really just look one next to the other and be honest.

4>I did not compare FF to Tera about repetitive gameplay, BOTH have repetitive gameplay

5> Maybe they fixed that now but was not the case earlier on, alot of people complained about it.
            6. it was a link of many from people complaining about the issues I had. I just happen to put that one up because the person complaining was very similar to my case. As is I was also away for a 3day weekend when it happened to me so the hacker was able to monitor players activity/inactivity, which leads me to believe it is more on their side.

All I wanted to do was warn people about this game, which I did. You attacked my post saying it was inconsistent, which is not. Just google this issues I posted and you will see plenty of it. There are plenty of other MMOs coming out which are FREE, unlike this one. If I pay for a service I have the spectation to get good support, which was not the case and I also have the spectation to play a clean enjoyful game not one that my windows get spammed by farmers every time i zone into an area.

          • MrSirFeatherFang

Alright we see your point. End this now. This article pertains to FFXIV coming to the PS4 in April, not the troubles you ran into with SE and FFXIV which should be discussed elsewhere.

          • Ferrick

            1) and yet you got hacked, yeah kinda stupid to be proud about your armor when there are way to many chinks in it

            3) play on my laptop and you’ll see how unoptimized that game looks

            4) your wording says otherwise

            5) no, this never happened, ever, I’ve been playing it since launch and never has it ever happened where the quest giving npc is killed

            6) that’s unlikely because I’m pretty sure that if that’s the case, my character would now be dangling naked in mor dhona because of my 1 month inactivity (thanks university and idiotic profs)

so yes, your post is inconsistent, and full of holes.

edit: and yes, i know about the gold spam messages, and no, it’s not in every other areas, it’s just in one town (that you’re bound to neglect soon)
