Ar NoSurge Will Let You Dive Into People’s Hearts To Solve Problems

By Sato . December 4, 2013 . 4:00pm

In Ciel NoSurge, players spent time “diving” into the amnesiac Ion’s mind to help awaken her memories. According to Dengeki, it looks like you’ll be doing something similar in Ar NoSurge, except this time you’ll be helping the characters resolve various troubles that are found in the depths of their hearts.

The above is a look at various parts of the colorful lands of Sharanoia. It’s a beautiful place, surrounded by plants and animals; however, due to unknown reasons, it’s been unstable with new lands appearing out of nowhere, and others disappearing.

The above is a tall look at a Sharanoia city called Tenryoshara. It is known for its high-rise building-like tower.

In town, there’s a place called the Bios Shop,  where the protagonist and others will be able to “Dive” into the spiritual world, “Genometrics”. Once you’re inside the Genometrics, characters will be required to solve problems that are in the hearts of the characters, which results in a “Genometrica Crystal,” a product of the character’s deep feelings.

These crystals can be used to power up Delta and the heroines through a “Purification” system that allows you to install them into their bodies for various power ups.

At first, you’ll start out with Cas and Ion, but you’ll soon be able to dive into the hearts of various characters later on in the game; however, you’ll need money and “Dive Points” in order to do so, which can both be acquired by winning fights.

Even though you’ll get to dive into the Genometrics, you won’t be able to see the entire heart right away. As you resolve various problems, bits at a time, you’ll be able to approach the further depths of the heart.

The Genometrics will feature various events, where the characters will reveal certain things they normally wouldn’t in person.

The above is a look at the “Geno Map,” that indicates mental tendencies of the characters. The line seen in the image indicates the bond between the two characters.

Ar NoSurge will be coming out on January 30, 2014, for PlayStation 3.

NIS, you know what to do.

    • Which is “nothing”, sadly. This ball is firmly in Tecmo-Koei’s court. It’s up to them to decide what to do with this new title and franchise overseas, since the whole point is that it’s a wholly-owned Gust/T-K property, as opposed to Ar Tonelico’s split ownership.

      • ReidHershel

Wait? Tecmo owns Ar Tonelico as well? Oh yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah, they own Gust. I hope they don’t make this digital download then if they localize it, the last two Atetlier games on the Vita recieved no marketing whatsoever.

        • Tecmo-Koei owns Gust now, which means they have full ownership of the Surge Concerto IP. A big part of the reason this isn’t simply an Ar Tonelico game, though (aside from the relative finality of AT3) is that ownership of AT was shared with Banpresto, which is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Namco-Bandai. The whole point of the Surge Concerto franchise is to produce something with that AT flavor that doesn’t have split ownership.

          GAME POLITICS!

As for pure DD, it’s hard to say. It looks like we’ll be getting a physical release of Escha & Logy, PS3 games are (relatively) cheap to manufacture at this point, and distribution vectors & vendor willingness to purchase wholesale lots for PS3 titles shouldn’t evaporate *too* quickly. On the other hand, given some of the trouble the AT titles had at market, T-K may try to hedge their bets as much as possible in terms of costs. We’ll have to see.

          • ReidHershel

You sound smart, I’m following you~
But that explains a lot, I hope things go well :D

          • GDI

Dude, this is the CarpeFulgur guy, the ones localizing Trails in the Sky and doujins.

          • wererat42

Well, SpaceDrake runs a company that localizes Japanese indie games, and is working on TitS2, so probably has some first hand knowledge.

          • I will be diving into you SpaceDrake. I mean following you.

          • Bow-chicka-wow-wow?

          • Arcana Wiz

if TiTs 3 be localized i will let you go straight to my level 9 cosmosphere! jk… or not

          • Kai2591

            haha good one

          • icecoffemix

I dunno what to do if they release the game without dual audio…

          • Anime10121

Play it and be happy we even got it?

          • icecoffemix

          • Real talk: wouldn’t be completely surprised to see the game with English-only audio, at least for the spoken dialogue, if we do get the game at all. It’d be another way of keeping costs down on a potentially risky/low-returns title.

I’d brace for the possibility, personally.

          • Kai2591

I will burn the whole world.

            Just kidding.

            or not.

However, given what happened with Atelier Ayesha, I’m inclined to think that TK would not want to repeat the same mistake of not giving dual audio ever again.

They even promised that all future Atelier games will include dual audio to appease the rage of Jap voice fans. They MUST have gotten the message :)

          • icecoffemix

I really hope you’re right, this kind of game really need those niche option.

          • Kai2591

I hope so, for our sakes.

Btw, who’s that character in your display picture? and from where?

          • icecoffemix

She’s a spoiler character from Majikoi VN :)

          • Kai2591

            oh okay. Thanks :)

  • Yep, it really is Ar Tonelico in everything but name. I am intensely interested to see if Tecmo-Koei decides to move on this for the overseas market or not.

  • Sentsuizan_93

Oooh! I like where this is going…

  • Mir Teiwaz

The more I see of this game, the more I truly hope it makes it over to the US. Seriously. This game is gonna be a day one buy of the most super-special-awesome edition they have @[email protected]

    • Kai2591

I, too, shall day one buy of the most super-special-awesome edition they have ;)

  • fyi1191

That other line though. Is he going to cheat on her later on?

    • MrTyrant

Are they a couple? is it confirmed? the line could be friendship.

      • If you’re talking about Cas and the dude they did kissed in the opening
Btw what did they say?I can’t read japanese T_T

        • MrTyrant

I want to take that as one of the posible outcomes. I liked my multiple heroines routes in previous games.

        • Loli Summoner

Oh god…I hate romance in my games…whatever…. still gonna get this.

          • If you don’t like romance, this is prooooooobably not a series you should be following. Just going out on a limb, here.

          • Loli Summoner

How do you know I just don’t play for the gameplay? And just because there’s romance doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy the game.Yeah I don’t like romance, but thats not gonna ruin the whole game for me.

          • icecoffemix

You hate romance but you’re gonna get Ar series? Huh?

          • Loli Summoner

Oh so I can’t like it for the gameplay and characters? I have to like romance to enjoy this game?

          • icecoffemix

No but you’ll cringe a lot if you do. Don’t say we didn’t warn you, enjoy.

          • Loli Summoner

            Doubt it.
I’ve played other games with romance bro,a lot of games I like have it. In fact, my favorite game has romance “FFX” and I should add I’ve played a Ar game before,it was the 3rd one for ps3.

          • icecoffemix

          • Vash bane

I tried looking up “cringe” then was led to “servile” which confuses me lol

but if you mean like makes go “wtf was that” and “O….K” then chances are I know what you mean XD

I remember ar tonelico 1 (mind you this was when I was younger and didn’t understand much and barely went on the net) azurnoza post pretty much sums it up what I thought at the time LOL.

          • Kai2591

lol. Its just that, romance is a HUGE CHUNK of the whole point of this game, and all Ar Tonelico games, as I’m sure you already know. The series deals with emotions, feelings, love, sentiments.etc.
Which is understandable why people are shocked by your statement haha.

But to each their own, so just enjoy things however you like :)

        • Kai2591

They may have kissed in the OP, but that doesn’t necessarily imply they already kissed by the time the game begins. Might imply what comes in the future.

Or they’re already in a relationship, and there are no alternate heroines for each hero. I dunno, we’ll see.

          • Yea, I think they start as friends in the beginning of the game and their feelings for each other will develop through out the game

          • Kai2591

            yeah, most probably.

            ah, youth!

    • Kai2591

      what other line?

  • aquagon

Hmm, if Dive is also possible in other characters aside of the Heroines, then they are keeping with was shown in Ciel Nosurge that Genometrics Diving is possible on anyone. The only thing that would be necessary to complete the setting would be that other characters are also shown as able to use Song Magic, as there were a few pieces of Song Magic shown in Ciel Nosurge that weren’t put out as full-featured songs like the ones sung by Ion and the other main girls.

    • Göran Isacson

I have to admit, making every character “dive-able” instead of just the love interests sounds very intriguing. I’m a sucker for character development and having more people to dive into and unlock powerups with sounds right up my alley.

      • icecoffemix

Not sure if I want to dive into guys though… >.>

        • Arcana Wiz

          Extreta twist!? XD

        • Vash bane

lol I see what you did there

        • Göran Isacson

Ha ha, well if you take “diving” as a synonym for this and that, maybe. I just like the concept of entering another persons mind and seeing their inner world, indifferent of their gender. Maybe I’m just an omnivore like that…

      • Kai2591

        character development FTW!

        • Göran Isacson

For certain. The power ups are nice and all, but I’d really like to see connections being made between characters without having the stigma of “choose if this character is a love interest or not”. Just let me explore their minds and personalities a bit more, that is all I ask.

          • Kai2591

            I understand.
Also, it pained me not being able to complete the cosmospheres of the other ‘unchosen’ heroines.
I feel sad for them :(

  • wererat42

Wonder if there are other male party members they will be dive-able as well.

  • Really hoping this sees the light of day outside of Japan.

Also, I had to do it since the “Purification System” was mentioned. It just reminded me of this lol

  • Derek E Nay

She has already dived in to my heart… but the localization problem has not been resolved :(

  • Kumiko Akimoto

    Dive into

  • Invisbin

Suddenly want to play KH3D again.

  • 永次

Tales of Hearts: Ar no Surge?

  • This is screaming Ar tonelico REALNESS! I would pick this up on day one if it arrived here.

  • Kai2591

    Yes, Yes, YES!

The dive feature that I LOVE is back in full glory! :)

  • bigboss09

TK you better bring over or else you will be vanish by my Zetta Beam

  • Yan Zhao

So its basically just like Ar Tonelico 1 and 2’s Dive system. Awesome. Really hope this game gets localized :<

  • Vash bane

interesting but….. wait a minute ciel nosurge? so this is a series?

anyway lol this looks interesting but “squints eyes” the mc but anyway i’m curious of the battle system

    • aquagon

It was the Surge Concerto series ever since Ciel Nosurge was announced and released.
