New Screenshots Of Noire’s Spinoff Show The Neptunia World As A Strategy RPG

By Spencer . December 4, 2013 . 12:52am

Compile Heart is developing a Hyperdimension Neptunia spinoff and Noire, Lastaton’s CPU, is the lead character. Hyper Goddess Creed Noire: Planet Destroyer Black Heart turns the bits and bytes of Gameindustri into a strategy RPG with grid based battles.

The art direction is a bit different from the other Neptunia titles too with super deformed character models on the battlefield. It looks like some enemies can take up more than one square too judging by the Dogoo in one of the screenshots.

Hyper Goddess Creed Noire: Planet Destroyer Black Heart is slated for release on May 29, 2014 on PlayStation Vita.

I wonder if this game will see some of Sting’s peculiar mechanics, or if it’s going to be a more traditional tactical affair considering its target audience is Neptunia fans instead of the usual Sting Dept. Heaven niche.

    • Landale

Can’t say I know what to expect in regards to Sting, but Idea Factory and Compile Heart have never seemed to me to be ones to avoid peculiar mechanics, even in the Neptunia games.

      • Ladius

Yeah, IF and CH have often tried to introduce unusual mechanics in their games. In fact, one of the reason I like IF is because they were the only developer to champion Dragon Force’s grand strategy jrpg subgenre with their Spectral and GoC franchises, while also trying interesting things with more traditional tactical games. Regarding CH, I think they’ve done a pretty good work with Neptunia Mk2 and Victory’s improvements, and I think Mugen Souls’ crazy systems could have a lot of potential if further explored.

That said, considering the Neptunia franchise has never seen an entry in the strategy jrpg subgenre I imagine Sting could try to avoid getting too crazy in order to avoid scaring off the ones that would buy the game because of the characters rather than because of their interest in the developer itself.

    • malek86

Sting seems to avoid peculiar mechanics outside of the Dept. Heaven series. Hexyz Force was a run-by-the-mill RPG like Evolution, Pandora’s Reflection was pretty much a copy of a mobile game, and Baroque was a remake of a PS1 game.

That would make sense too. Dept. Heaven fans are already expecting peculiar mechanics, but Neptune fans might not want that. If they did it, they risk alienating the fans. The more complicated your game, the more chances someone won’t be able to finish it and see all the story.

I’m not expecting much other than a standard SRPG with a gimmick. But we’ll see.

      • Arcana Wiz

yeah i think too that it will be more traditional, but i play to it have some interesting mechanics….. like a la riviera, which is pretty much a normal jrpg, but with interesting concepts.

        • malek86

I’d say Riviera is very different from a normal JRPG. Aside from the basic rule of “turn based combat”, everything else is decidedly outside of the norm. No random battles at all, action points for exploration, fighting based around items, etc.

    • DyLaN

Well, they did tease abt a gameplay element involving moe. I suspect it will be a modification of the Moe Kill/something frm MS.

  • zweii
    Kochira Snake.

    War has changed.

It’s no longer about nations, ideologies, or ethnicity. It’s an endless series of proxy battles, fought by gender bender mercenaries, moe-fied videogame machines and catgirls.

    • HerosLight

    • Wow, they’re actually making a character based on another video game character. This is a big step.

      • Landale

Not really. Falcom was pretty much Adol. Broccoli was pretty much Puchiko, to the point where she even got called that. CyberConnect2 was pretty much a mix of Kite and BlackRose.
Mind you, once you went past the looks of the characters they started to differ by adding in other games and characters quirks, but there’s nothing to say they’ll not do this with these new characters at he moment.

        • drproton

Also N1 was pretty much Prinny.

  • peter silveira
  • Randgriz

    Wow this looks brilliant!

  • Strategically destroying planets one moe smile at a time. =)

  • SlickRoach

Seeing that catgirl cooking a fish immediately reminded me of Felynes from MH and the cooking spit minigame. Capcom-chan…?

    • Landale

The design that they had made for Capcom was very Resident Evil inspired actually, and she was among the silhouettes for this game. However, they seem to be continuing along with what they did with a few of the girls, Tekken especially, in Victory, basing the girls more on specific games than the companies themselves, though that there were several non game/company names given for characters for this I’m going to guess that they’re dropping the idea of naming the characters after games and companies, which would prevent future issues like with Red and Gust.
So so far we’ve got a Monster Hunter girl, Resident Evil girl, and Metal Gear girl. There was one silhouette rather similar to Pai from Virtua Fighter as well.

  • Arcana Wiz

    Cuteness overload…. *faints*

  • Nitraion

Lol is that Snake and Monhun reference?? XD

  • TrueDefault

I hope Plutia makes the cast too, I don’t care if she’s available as DLC!

    • Landale

Plutia and Peashy will very likely be in, there’s no real reason to drop them out of the series. They’re just not likely to focus on them in the advertising to start with, Noire and all the new girls, 18 of them I believe it was, will be getting the spotlight.

      • TrueDefault

        18? Wow!

Noire finally has a harem of her own!

        • Landale

Not all of the silhouettes are necessarily going to be allies. Some of them seem to match up to some of these girls that are apparently enemies. Enemies, or you can attack your own characters. >_>

          • DyLaN

Or its just some Nanoha style befriending.

  • Mecha Hisui

    Solid Snake = So-RIDDO Suneikku = Riddo (MGS-chan)
Hatsune Miku = -tsune Mi- = Tsunemi (Project Diva-chan; not pictured here)

Moru is the catgirl loli and is obviously Monster Hunter-chan (not necessarily Capcom)
There’s also a Koei girl with Dynasty Warrior/Musou-esque clothes but I forget her name.

Looks like they’re using big franchises that have been on Sony platforms this time around.

    • Landale

The Miku one is pictured actually. She’s the one Noire is attacking, also standing next to Vert in the picture with the large Dogoo. Coloring is obviously different from what would be expected, but her portrait matches up to the Miku-ish silhouette.

    • Nerroth

There’s also a Koei girl with Dynasty Warrior/Musou-esque clothes but I forget her name.

I think it might be Sango.

There is also Estelle, who you can see in that first pic; the one with the sword and Dogoo shield just above Blanc.

      • Theob Vious Choice

Estelle looks a lot like the hero from Dragon Quest 3, which is funny since that hero has been gender bent ridiculous amounts of times.

  • Keytotruth

I’m so gonna get this game. <3

  • Kornelious

This actually looks pretty good, and seeing NISA’s love for the Neptunia series I say this is already bound for localization (That is when it’s, you know, actually been made)

  • Aristides

    Give us… localization!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =D

  • WhyWai

OMG! I love this! Hope localisation is coming really soon! pleas NISA i beg you!

    • artemisthemp

NISA is already behind schedule with HDN

They have Idol PP atm and then their is RE: Birth 1 and Re: Birth 2 (which haven’t released in Japan yet) and Noire neither have.

  • Renaldi Saputra

    looks like 7th Dragons 2020
    the chibi arts

  • Audie Bakerson

Do we know the developer yet? Felistella seems logical given the genre, but CH/IF’s internal teams have done tRPGs before.

    • Nerroth

It’s being co-produced with Sting Entertainment.

    • Ladius

      It’s developed by Sting.

  • Tom_Phoenix

This should have been called Super Moe Wars.

  • Suzaku Kururugi

I wasn’t interested in playing another Neptunia after the first just seemed to drag on and on, but I’d definitely be interested in a strategy RPG version.

    • DyLaN

Most Neptunia fans generally agreed tht the first Neptunia wasn’t that good compared to mk2 or Victory. And then there Re:Birth 1 which remakes the first game but with updated gameplay and plot.

      Just my 2 cents though.

      • Suzaku Kururugi

Oh, I don’t talk to Neptunia fans much so I had no idea. I’ll definitely check them out then. Thanks.

  • Linhua

… who the hell is this cat girl that is threatening my Noire Territory…??

    • DyLaN

      Moru aka MH-tan.

Also funny you should say that…. There a pic of Riddo spying on Noire while she bathing.

      • TheExile285

        2014 GOTY Confirmed ;P

  • IshimaruKaito

kinda gives me a disgaea feel

  • wererat42

    Sango = SAN GOku shi

Also, isn’t Sting behind that Date a Live visual novel? It’s not like everything they touch is original and has unusual gameplay mechanics.

    • DyLaN

I heard tht they also did help porting some VNs too. But this is confirmed to be a SRPG.

  • DyLaN
    • Nice! Thanks for the scans Dylan =)

  • ThirdChildZKI

I once described Mugen Souls as “the hyperactive, chibi-style lovechild of Disgaea and Neptunia”. . . This, while I’m excited for it, literally looks like the hyperactive, chibi-style lovechild of Disgaea and Neptunia.

  • Tyler Beale

I thought it was to be developed by Sting…?

  • Godman

If this plays like Disgaea (with the whole 9999 leveling and class creator) I may just have to import the VitaT.V to play it earlier though I have no doubt it going to come over here.
If not I am content to play just with the girls, it weird that about half a year ago I was wishing there’d be a HDN game that played like a SRPG, however it was with the HD sprites like D4, but this is close enough ;) <3 Noire
