To-Love Ru On Vita Has A Touching Feature, Naturally. Also, A "Plot".

By Eugene . December 5, 2013 . 2:58pm

Developer FuRyu is busy bringing to life the hilarious and sexy and very well-described “ultra-pleasant harem game” To Love-Ru series over to the PlayStation Vita with an all-original story in a third-person action-RPG dungeon crawler called To Love-Ru Trouble Darkness: Battle Ecstasy.

To fill those of you who wandered in here on what the deal is with this unabashedly perverse harem series, it stars the luckless Rito, a regular Joe who’s suddenly stuck with a whole pile of extraterrestrial, and highly sexualized, girls. Most of the series revolves around Rito being a good, clean man with an unfortunate predilection for falling over at just the right moment—which still leads the girls to slowly fall in love with him. And that’s actually a plan by some of the ladies.

In the Vita game, Rito suddenly awakens after a dizzy spell in his house in a strange world and dungeon. Momo, one of those slightly-devilish-looking lasses appears and informs him that they’ve been sucked into a parallel world. And one of Rito’s main love interests, Lala—Momo’s elder sister—is trapped. Yes, we’ll go rescue her and others as knights in shining armor.

Most of the game will comprise wandering around dungeons looking for the way down and battling monsters to save one of the lady’s stuck inside, and every floor will apparently have an event with one of the girls. There’s even a special Communication Part called the TTT—Trouble Touch Time—which uses both front and back touch panels to interact with the ladies.

Finally, there’s word of a My Room function where you’ll be able to take a breather in a mimicked version of Rito’s house from Earth. Here you’ll be able to talk to any of your rescued girls and, uh, spend time with them. There might even be some special relationship events with them here…

To Love-Ru Darkness: Battle Ecstasy will be out for the PlayStation Vita on the 22nd of May 2014.

    All dat plot.

  • TheExile285

I hope you can take heroines into battle and the ENTIRE game isn’t based around saving Lala. Maybe something like Little King Story/New Little King Story setup where you save each heroine and they join your party.

    • FlyingPony

I would like to try Golden Darkness in combat.

  • LM009

we’re obviously here for the plot … Duh

  • British_Otaku

    Dat URL! Eugene never stops.

Glad to see that both systems know that touching is good, I’ll look into starting To Love Ru if the trailers turn out good.

  • PlatinumMad

    Super interesting

    Where’s Nana

  • Sentsuizan_93

    Well of course there’ll be plot….. :P

“I’m getting this game for the plot” said no man ever.

    • ChiffonCake

For a certain value of plot.

    • M’iau M’iaut

Depends upon the plot one speaks of. Love Ru has none of one and the streets are flowing in the other.

      • Christopher Nunes

I only recognize Asuna (1st pic) from Sword Art Online, Saeko (2nd pic) from High School Dead, Lucy (5th pic) Fairy Tail (that is Lucy right?), and Nami (6th) from One Piece.

Who are the other girls and what anime are they from?

        • MrSirFeatherFang

          The one with “Anime”

Haruka Nogizaka from Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu.
(you see that guy, M’iau, below me? He loves this anime)

          The one with “For”

Satellizer (Stella) L. Bridget from Freezing.

          • Christopher Nunes

Oh that’s Stella? I didn’t recognize her strangely nothing (I stopped after when it got to the “Brother” Arc… seriously I couldn’t stand it. I thought is was an Action series with the mysterious monsters mankind had to fight… not a romance story (which I normally enjoy reading)).

            Thank you!

          • MrSirFeatherFang

I stopped around the Brother part too. Not because of the manga itself, I finally decided to stop reading LIM Dall-young written manga in general :/

          • Shippoyasha

I think Freezing is going some interesting places storywise though. The brother will obviously get his comeuppance sooner or later and the fights are starting to get brutal again. I think the writer is definitely getting better through the years.

          • Christopher Nunes

I’m aware the Brother gets what he deserves in the end, but I’m done with it. I have no interest reading it anyway… also I hate OVER killing characters even if they’re minor (well there’s not a LOT of killing but it gets pretty messed up at times).

          • MrSirFeatherFang

I was thinking about giving it another try. Maybe not right now, but thanks for the input.

          • Christopher Nunes

            LIM Dall-young?

          • MrSirFeatherFang

He is the writer/author of Freezing. Not the artist (he doesn’t draw). He only writes.

          • Christopher Nunes

I see… and why do you dislike his writing?

          • MrSirFeatherFang

I have to admit though, he writes way too many manga at the same time. I think he should focus on one or a few works. I don’t know if that’s the case now, but back when I got into his works, he had like 4-5 works he was writing all at once. Sometimes he would put one or a few on hiatus too.

I’m not so good at critically analyzing someone’s writing, but I’ll see what I can do in this post.

His manga premises show a lot of promise. They are usually unique. Not totally cliche, but it’s somewhat different. My problem is, he fails to fully utilize his ideas. They seem great, but they never really go anywhere. once it gets to that point “what to do now” the endings seem unfulfilled and abrupt (sometimes). I don’t think he or the reader feels satisfied with the whole experience.

He usually has the same type of main protagonist. A male lead who seems rather weak and makes rather poor decisions. And keeps making the same decisions all the time. That and strong female leads. Usually older and stronger than the male protagonist (if it’s an action manga). Sadly, both don’t ever seem to develop. Not all of his males main protagonists are like this, but most are.
There also seems to be this strange trope of bottling up emotions and bursting out in anger. He does this a lot.

Though, it might just be my own perspective. I might be asking too much. His manga is surely entertaining, but for some reason I have just grown to dislike whatever he makes.
Shippoyasha down there has claimed that he’s gotten better. I was always thinking about trying to get into his works again.

            TL;DR
His works seem interesting at first, but don’t go anywhere.
edit: I seemed to have gone way off topic (from the article). I apologize about that.

          • Christopher Nunes

            No problem, that was insightful.

I’ll admit I enjoy a strong female lead, but I also like it if the male complements the female and both are equally strong and balance each other out and work perfectly together in any situation.

Though the bursting in rage, when angry is bottled up, and getting stronger is a common thing in Shounen manga. Which I don’t mind and quite like.

I just don’t like the overwhelming and unnecessary abuse some of the characters go like that at times, like with the Brother arc. That was plain stupid.

            Anyway thanks for sharing that.

          • Shippoyasha

To be sure, a major appeal of the writer is that he’s a Korean creator in a decidedly Japanese centric creative landscape. And some of the more brutal story threads he puts in there gives his story a bit more of a Manhwa sensibility than manga styles. I absolutely agree with you that he has way too much on his plate and with too many simultaneous works at times. The guy definitely has flaws as a writer for sure. Just that as far as Freezing goes, it seems he’s intent to follow through a bit more on the premise. Then again, it may take several more projects for him to really level up and make protagonists feel more important and with progression. That’s actually a really good analysis of the guy’s works.

          • MrSirFeatherFang

I haven’t completely given up on the guy, maybe I got a little bummed out from reading his works too much.
            Thanks for the input!

      • FlyingPony

Damn, these great animes have outstanding, unpredictable plot that bouncing all over the place.

I can’t keep my eyes off the picture, for the plot is truly fascinating to watch.

  • Rayhan PromisedGallery

    Player-kun, how shameless!!!

    • Lifestreamer

      Kotegawa>Life.

      • Demeanor

Kotegawa IS life, if you catch my meaning XD

  • drproton

Eagerly anticipating confirmation of Magical Kyouko.

  • malek86

    “ultra-pleasant harem game”

It’s like they don’t even care anymore about letting you know what genre the game really is.

Then again, I doubt anyone is picking this up for the gameplay. Unless the touching feature counts as gameplay. Surely it must.

    • MXC

Also considering that this is related to To-Love-Ru for those who know about the anime or manga or other TLR games.

  • Roberto

    DAT LALA

  • Tom_Phoenix

I’m sure this game’s plot will have all the complexities and intricacies a person would want…..from a porn movie.

    • FlyingPony

Nah, porn movie have the most corniest dialog I ever heard..

To Love Ru is no Stephen King’s masterpiece, but it does have ongoing plot and decent character development and background.

    Also, DAT THIGH

  • Arcana Wiz

yes it have sooo much PLOT ;D

  • Keine

another game that will not get localised due to PLOT…

  • Mugen555

    To- Love Ru is Interesting

  • Pdugna

Wait….since when did Rito ever fight? I mean he became less of a pussy overtime like most of the character types of his do but…I never remembered him fighting…

    • Göran Isacson

Ha ha I was about to say, from the very little I read of this manga he wasn’t exactly a fighting type… maybe this is some kind of heroic fantasy he has, and the whole game is just a dream where he’s cooler than he is in canon?

      • Pdugna

Darkness he almost becomes that pimp though….he was soo close.

        • ShadowDivz

I find that hard to believe.
Do you have a chapter number or something. Haven’t read in forever.

  • Tyler Beale

Wait, To Love-Ru is still a thing in Japan?

As much I’d love to see this localized, I’m afraid that…
