I wonder how long NA RO2 will survive(and Gravity will update it with new content),since kRO2 will be closed as Dec.23 2013.
It’s currently 730~ steam users online(and unknown numbers from non-steam clients),that’s very low numbers, tbh.(it was around 4-5k users online on release)

    • Shady Shariest

Yup… After hearing so much of the first game decided to check this out… Aa-nd it is painfully mediocre -_-’
      Shame.

    • Lilith

Wait… Really? Why? Isn’t Ragnarok like… super popular?

      • Ferrick

ragnarok online 1, yes, 2, not at all

        • Lilith

          Is there any reason?

          • Ferrick

it’s because they made ragnarok online 2 into a generic subpar mmorpg with only nostalgia as it’s main attraction

          • Kumiko Akimoto

No it’s because people didn’t like it because it wasn’t a copy and paste of old ragnarok which is outdated and not even fun anymore

          • CptPokerface

Sorry to say but that’s your own opinion. I loved the original RO. The sequel as it was intended to be was going to add a whole new layer of content and reinvent the classic RO formula. RO2 as it is now is very similar to many other f2p mmo’s out there now and people realize this. Anything that was there to make it truly stand out upon it’s first release a few years back is gone.

          • Kumiko Akimoto

I’m sorry to say but that is also your opinion and the fact that f2p is being used as if it were an insult also downgrades the merit of your opinion.,

          • CptPokerface

You’re assuming that it was intended as an insult, and for what? The active user base has been dropping slowly but steadily upon release. Anyone who’s actually played it knows that it has many elements similar to many other mmos without doing much of anything fresh or exciting. The most it has going for it is that it does in fact carry on the feel of RO, and even that is debatable.

You’re dismissing everything simply because you personally are sick of RO. Your logic goes no further than “i dont like it anymore therefore its bad and anything thats different from it in the sequel is good”.

          • Kumiko Akimoto

No I’ve never liked RO since the first time i tried it.
Also yes because the need to put f2p in a different category as if it matters doesn’t point to insult uhuh.

Anyways there are plenty of mmos that lose their userbase like that there’s a lot of various factors to it and there are also plenty of mmos that bring nothing new to the table but need to because they are still fun to mess around with.

          • CptPokerface

Firstly, I called it a f2p mmo because that’s what it is. Sub-based and p2p mmos are each handled differently. Yes people out there have a stigma against f2p. I don’t. You’re being a little sensitive.

Secondly, the the reason R02 has gotten the flak its been getting is because it feels like an uninspired sequel to a game which was(and still is) very popular. It deviated heavily from what madr made the original so popular in the first place. Yes, other mmos decline in active users over time, but to.go from 4-5k to just barely touching a thousand is a big drop for a game thats been out for months at best.

Lastly, if you didn’t even like the original RO than why even comment here? You’re entitled to your opinion all the same, but if you didn’t even really touch the first game than how can you even try to make a comparison between the two? What are you basing this on?

          • Kumiko Akimoto

You called it a generic f2p mmo.
If you had just said f2p mmo there wouldn’t have been a problem. If i need to play the first one to realize how bad this one is then this one isn’t really bad which brings back to my point about nostalgia.

          • CptPokerface

It’s not generic because it’s f2p it’s generic because it’s generic. There are many other mmos out there that does what it does and better.

And you’re right, i’ve played it for a while and it isn’t that bad. It also isn’t that good. Its mediocrity is the issue here. The successor to a wildly popular is naturally expected to be just as good or better than the first.

It took away many things that made RO1 unique without trying anything new or exciting itself. It could just do that with this upcoming update but the way things have been going it my be a bit too late.

The last thing didn’t even make much sense. You clearly didn’t like the first one so of course you would think a sequel that doesn’t play like it would be better.

          • Kumiko Akimoto

It’s generic because it’s like every f2p out there other wise you would have said generic mmo.
Nope I think just because it doesn’t add anything new to the table doesn’t mean it should get the flak it does or get a bad rep just because it.If it’s a soild game it’s a soild game innovative or not and the reactions towards it are always nostalgia based no matter how hard people try to hide that.
You say it’s bad because it wasn’t like RO1 but that doesn’t make the game play shitty nor does it make the story shitty or the graphics or game mechanics it does offer.

          • CptPokerface

No you’re missing the point. Again. I didn’t say it was bad. I specifically said that. Its not especially good or bad. It’s mediocre, underwhelming to its fans given to how the first game was received.

It doesn’t have to be a carbon copy of RO to be.successful, and it also doesn’t need to reinvent the.genre as we know it. I played the game faithfully for a time and just dropped it.

Look, you can feel however you want about RO1 and 2. Maybe you would enjoy 2 and thats fine.

But you can’t say that other people are giving it flak strictly due to nostalgia when you barely played the 1st and haven’t even played the.2nd.

          • Kumiko Akimoto

I can and will because that’s what it boils down to

          • Ferrick

sorry, but that’s not true at all, the fact that they’ve made RO2 into a generic f2pmmorpg is the reason on why we decided to neglect it and decided to wait on Tree of Savior instead

          • Xerain

Actually both you and Kumiko are correct. The original beta didn’t go well for the reasons Kumiko stated. In response they panicked and made it into a generic f2p MMO to recoup their losses.

          • Ferrick

the first one (2′s first beta) was also generic

          • Xerain

All I have to go on with 2′s original beta is a huge list of features they had planned to implement, which I imagine were not fully implemented in the 1st beta… and were them completely abandoned once they redid everything. Those features would have made the game a lot different from RO1… and also would have made the game a lot more interesting than what we ended up getting.

          • Ferrick

yes, they had some features meant to be implemented but didn’t get it through before they decided to scrape the final (before cancellation and remake), but before the features could be implemented, the game itself already felt like a generic MMO with the ability to allow one character to have more than one classes

    • Crevox

Jeez, I didn’t realize it was closing in Korea…

    • Xerain

RO2 isn’t the game many people wanted it to be, I won’t deny that. However, there is a strong indication that the Korean version is being closed so they can focus on the NA version. (Or rather, the Korean players got pissed off and stopped playing because the Korean version hadn’t been updated since May, due to Gravity focusing on the NA version.)

I’ve heard it’s been pretty much confirmed the Gravity Korea has actually sold or is in the process of selling RO2 to an undisclosed buyer. The rumor going around is that this buyer is actually Warp Portal, Gravity’s US subsidiary who is running the NA game.

When pressed on this… naturally the GMs could not directly comment. They did, however, confirm the game would be receiving additional updates after Advent of Valkyrie, and suggested that now would be a really good time for the players to start posting on the Proposals and Suggestions forum. Read into this as much or as little as you like.

      • Zeonsilt

This, actually, makes sense(but does this mean, that’s Warpportal will continue develop it or Gravity KR branch?).
p.s.They need ideas,so here’s a “time for proposals and suggestions” on forum.

        • Xerain

It does make sense, but it is still just a rumor.
If it’s true, I’m going to go out on a limb and say Warp Portal will pay Gravity to add new content, however it will be Warp Portal calling the shots.

This all fits with statements made by Warp Portal when the game launched that their version will eventually become the main version of RO2 that all other versions are based on.

    • りんごタルト@エスカのアトリエ

Really? kRO2 is like a year old. Something’s really wrong with this game.

      • HansKaosu

Actually kRO is 6-7 years old.. though the current version of it is 1 year old. I played the original RO2 back in 2006

  • Ouryu

Tree of Savior is going to be the new Ragnarok Online 2, this game is dying.

    • John Lawson

      this is true, cannot wait…

  • NightzeroAX

Kill this wannabe and bring forth Project R.

  • PlatinumMad

Hey, those giant exp zombies are back.

    • AoNoise

      You mean the Anubis?

I sure got a kick of nostalgia from watching this. There’s Zeroms, Requiems, Mummies, Anubis and Osiris :’)

Might even re-install the original RO and just go sightseeing for the sake of it.

  • tubers

I wish ToS had RO skin :( Gonna miss those RO monsters. Nostalgia is a huge factor to me.

  • icecoffemix

Huh? Wasn’t this discontinued in Korea?

  • Aristides

SO, how about Ragnarok Zero? Will that game be any good?

  • Vash bane

    interesting
