Monster Hunter Frontier G, an online version of Capcom’s popular hunting game, has a crossover with Devil May Cry. Players will be able to get costumes and weapons to dress their character up like Dante or Lady.

Dante’s costume is for sword users level seven or above. You can also get two different blades, Rebellion I and Rebellion Kai I. Lady is a gunner and like Dante she has two weapons, Jealousy I and Epidemic I.

Starting now and until Christmas, you can temporarily party with Dante. His character ID is E3E9E7 (on PC), BTQCTL (Xbox 360), RK7FLC (PS3) or Z2Z3JG (Wii U). Monster Hunter Frontier G will also make it to PlayStation Vita next year.

      • Valtiel Ikari

well, both are named Dante, yes.
But one is all about having fun and not letting the bad things of the past get you down, campy story and just enough duchery to give arrogance and likeness.
The other is about being angry at all, morally questionable and over hyped story and supposed character development that didn’t deliver in any of the aspect it promised.

        • Herok♞

if we want to debate the finer points you are missing his personality from 2 which is the exact opposite of what you describe and being completely unlikable, and the lack of personality of 1 minus a complete 180 from hating trish to loving her all over the course of one cutscene with no justifiable reasoning, so in half the games he isn’t likable one bit or what people like to think when they think of “Old Dante”. While new Dante isn’t anything like you described him, sure he is kinda of dick but he is more of a Dante then the first 2 ever will be, I found him a believable and likable character, the only time he is legitimately angry is when Vergil kills Lilith and the baby and that is reasonable, he actual develops into a character unlike old Dante who is a static personality in each game he appears in that ranges from awful to good. So in short you could be describing New Dante or Old Dante depending on interpretation, so going by your example I will say you are talking about DmC Dante for the first half and DMC2 Dante for the second half.

          • Valtiel Ikari

No, the first part was about classic Dante and I stand my ground about alternate
            reality Dante.

I will try to explain myself in order and try to not make it too extended, since Dante is actually
very complex and have huge amount of reasons as to why he is the way he is.

To start off, classic Dante fans (in its majority) hate Devil May Cry 2, to the point that they don’t consider it part of the cannon (there was actually a petition for capcom to officially declare it non-cannon) so I didn’t consider his personality in my statement.

Dante childhood was though, (arguably more than alternate reality one), he couldn’t
make a lot of friends, since he had to always be on the move with his mother, this was the get away from demons that tracked them down, this was during all his childhood.

If he made friends, they died in the attacks of demons to the place he and his mother
lived, or they turned their backs on him and drove him away when they found out about him being half demon and the attacks of the demons where partly his fault (since they were looking for him).

He blames his lack of strength for his mother’s death, and believe it be his fault, this event caused his brother to go down a dark path, he blame himself for that too because this event is a consecuence of Eva’s death.

He opens his business for selfish reasons (redemption), but eventually, thanks to the confrontation with Lady, he understand the humans more, and how hard they have and are willing to fight, thus, understanding the sacrifices his mother
had to make to keep him safe, lending his skills to do good for humanity (for a price, but he is willing not to charge if he finds the contractor a good person)

He does go through character development in 3, leading to why he acts the way he does in 1, so he is not static.

The Trish thing is because she is the exact image (physically) of his mother, and yeah, I have to admit that it was a 180, but on the other side, it was campy, and the franchise knows that, it’s self aware of it, thus, making that perfectly acceptable in this situation

All the things of his past considered, he is still and upbeat dude, to the point of making the most fun out of jobs, when he wants to, and he can be funny without using curse words, just being cocky, but to a point.

DmC, is a parallel universe, that why saying
that he is not the real Dante is correct.

His mother was murdered, he was lock up in a demonic orphanage, were he was tortured. This is very over victimizing, just so to justify his sadistic habits to his enemies, and his vices (fighting, killing, getting drunk and having sex until passing out) and his fight the power stance so he can be a rebel.

His development isn’t that good, for example, Kats always going about how Vergil is so perfect and how she admires him, and her past of being raped, that Vergil helped her surpass, makes him develop a crush on her, that is only a means of making
him side with humanity by the end of the game, was, very under developed, to the point it was cheap.

He needs to curse to be funny, this is a trait that can work, but it was poorly executed, to the point of being juvenile, and a poor excuse of making him look mature, and is completely un-Dante like.

His morals are questionable, he threatens innocents out of nowhere (when he’s debating if he puts a hole on Kat until he is interrupted by the Hunter), tortures enemies (again, un-Dante like)

part with Lilith, he was angry, ok, until Vergil said that it was necessary for the child to not seek vengeance, then he was all ok with it, and if you
consider he was slashing at it and his mother moments ago, it was all kind of hypocrite on his part.

All in all, every element of the “story” in DmC,
felt just as a excuse to justify why AR Dante is angst, and was poorly
executed. Anyways, DmC failed, so I doubt we will AR Dante again, especially everything
we have seen DMC related have had classic Dante.

So you stated your points, and I stated my, let’s
just leave it at that before a mod call our attention for going off topic. In the end, is just difference in preferences, but saying that the AR Dante is more Dante than real Dante is just wrong, is like saying that Flashpoint paradox Batman is more Batman than the real Batman, it’s can’t be said because Batman is the original mold, and Flashpoint Batman is a different (still badass) version that deviates from what makes Batman, well, Batman!

          • Herok♞

Still if you have to outright ignore canon to justify a character that isn’t good, weather or not it is hated it is Canon for 2, after all that is the first time the team that did the beloved Dante worked on the series and it should be apart of the record but I digress, all I am saying is as a whole without ignoring anying I prefer New Dante, since Old Dante shifts way to much, and honestly I feel both DMC 5 and DmC2 should be made, after Capcom clearly wasn’t afraid to have multiple branches with Megaman

Note keep in mind I knew you were talking about old Dante with your first statment

          • Valtiel Ikari

the reason that capcom gave of not giving more megaman games in a while was becasue it had multiple branches, so it would put them in a tight spot with megaman fans if they did that for DMC.
well, I guess it’s ok, you got your taste, and I got mine.
was nice talking with you, you are more level headed than other DmC fans.
let’s just leave it here before a mod call our attention for going off topic.

          • Herok♞

The reason I say that with Devil May Cry is they still have a chance to get it right with this one and please everyone

also the mods won’t say anything as long as we are being reasonable

      • hazelnut1112

I just call the reboot one DINO (Dante in name only).

        • Herok♞

His personaltiy was still the same, after it was Dante younger as modern teenager who had to deal with a lot of crap in his life.

          • hazelnut1112

Oh how wrong you are. Played all the previous DMC games and a little bit of 4, and I decided to give this reboot a try and nothing throughout the game even reminded me of Devil May Cry besides the names.
The way this new guy acted and how his attitude was towards everything reminded me nothing of Dante and wasn’t even close to his old character.
The reason I enjoyed Dante from DMC 3 and form what I saw in 4 was that he reminded me of Spider Man, snarky smart mouth guy that can also carry his own weight.
This new guy reminds me of some 10 year old that just discovered punk music and thinks that he should should go “F THE SYSTEM” on everything.

          • Herok♞

You know playing a little bit of 4 doesn’t mean you fully played all the other games, I can only assume since you say a little bit of 4 you never made it to Dante’s half. I have played all the Devil May Cry games start to finish so DMC1-DmC. So now you are going with the Devil May Cry started with 3 mentality and the other 2 Dantes have no effect on said character. I will put it this way you went into DmC, hating the new Dante and having a bias that clouds your judgement, which was I don’t like this guy and don’t plan on liking him. Since I didn’t have any feelings toward old Dante I played DmC first and then the other 4 games to see the hype and guess what, I can easily see parallels and see how their different upbringings caused them to be similar yet different characters. also old dante was a ninja turtle, not spiderman. newer dante also had a more tragic backstory that if you would have payed attention to it you would understand why he turned out the way he did.

    • Kaihedgie

Kamiya doesn’t consider anyone but the one he made (DMC1) the real Dante.
