Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment Trailer Shows Off Heroine Hand-Holding

By Sato . December 19, 2013 . 4:45am

We recently got a peek at other virtual MMORPG heroines like Leafa and Silica, who will be appearing in Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment. Now, the game’s latest trailer shows the game’s protagonist, Kirito, holding hands with a number of heroines in the game, along with a closer look at battles.

The trailer starts out with a fight scene between Kirito and Philia, who is said to be an “Orange Player,” or one who has previously committed a crime in the virtual MMORPG.

After showing off some new parts of the Hollow Area and co-op actions you can do with your partners during battles, the trailer gives us a short tour of Arksophia, the same town from the previous PSP title, Sword Art Online: Infinity Moment, which will pretty much be your home base when you’re not taking on dungeons.

You’ll get to communicate with various friends and partners of the series in town. It’s also where you’ll be able to go out on dates and hold hands with the likes of Asuna, Lisbeth, Silica, Yui, Leafa, Sinon, and Strea.

We also get a look at the “Hollow Missions” you’ll be taking on in the new area, where you’ll be required to investigate various parts as a special task. In multiplayer, up to eight players consisting of you and three other players, along with partners, will be fighting old and new bosses in the Hollow Area.

The trailer ends with Philia admitting that she had previously killed some people, which explains how she became an Orange Player.

Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment is coming out on April 24, 2014, for PlayStation Vita.

  • Dark Zerato

I want this game in the west.

    • tonyp1987

Me too I loved the anime wish I could play the game

  • David García Abril

“It’s also where you’ll be able to go out on dates and hold hands with the
likes of Asuna, Lisbeth, Silica, Yui, Leafa, Sinon, and Strea.”

    Wait, WHAT?! YUI?!!!!

Having a “brother-sister/cousins” incest sub-plot wasn’t enough, so now they’re going for “adoptive father-adoptive daughter”?

Well, at least it’s not tentacle rape, so I gues it’s not really a low point…

    lol

    • God

The whole pseudo “dating” thing was enough to make it hard to get a localization, the incest thing guaranteed that there wouldn’t be a localization, but this? this is like if the game was screaming “Try to localize me, I DARE YOU! I DOUBLE DARE YOU MOTHERFUCKER!!”.

    • DyLaN

The Yui ending in IM isn’t exactly romance though. You can read the ending detail here: http://swordartonline.wikia.com/wiki/Sword_Art_Online:_Infinity_Moment

      • David García Abril

        Thank you. That’s a relieve. :P

      • God

Oh, then i guess the chances of localization went from 0% to 5%.

  • Renaldi Saputra

    quite decent, though

  • Aristides

I’m gonna die ;_;, I really want to play this in English…

    • Anko Is Furious (King T.G.P)

I don’t know about the dieing part but.. This is something that would be nice to see and play in English >.<.. Especially with the lack of Vita games I can definitely see it doing okay.

  • natchu96

    “I murdered someone once”

Well, this is awkward justification for trying to reject Kirito, because you totally aren’t the only one.

  • Courtney Levi Osborn

    please localize this…

    • Renaldi Saputra

namdai + anime adaptation + not jump related means very low chance despite the popularity

      • Courtney Levi Osborn

will still hope and dream…. lol

        • Renaldi Saputra

well, very low chance doesn’t mean it’s absolute 0 chance

  • God

Why must they make your romantic relationship with a heroine a fundamental gameplay point in every SAO game? wasn’t it bad enough how much the anime and part of the novels focused on this?

    • Bigabu Beaze

Thats just what people do in MMOs, they hit on eachother cuz its easier in game.

      • God

I have played several MMOs, never seen that actually happen.

        • Anko Is Furious (King T.G.P)

I’ve seen that happen a lot but it happens more often in whisper / private chats. Another thing is out of all the MMO’s (Includes Twelve Sky, 2Moons, Jade Dynasty and several others.) I’ve played I’ve seen at least 2 couples each game who were e-dating and try to act as if they lived together when their info and the things they say make it obvious that it’s false lol.

          • God

Yeah, but there is always “That One Couple” on MMOs, there are always a lot of “That One X” so i figured it was not worth mentioning.

          • Anko Is Furious (King T.G.P)

“Couple” or not it happens a lot and will lead to them becoming that “couple” lol. That could also be the reason why MMO’s like Lineage 2 allow players to get married too. Since its rather common x.x.

          • God

Really? I thought marriages in MMOs were unusual, since, at least in the ones i’ve played, they had stupidly high requirements, either an extremely rare drop from an extremely rare enemy that can only be found in extremely high leveled places, or paying real life money.

    • icecoffemix

Maybe because the “romance” (aka harem actually) is a major selling point of the novel and anime? Why would they make the game unappealing to the core fans?

    • TheExile285

Literally just answered your own question. If you don’t like the series, why do you even care?

      • John Diamond

he didn’t say he didn’t like it. he just said he didn’t like the harem aspect of it

      • God

Exactly, i’m actually a big fan, but i think sometimes (not all the time) the story focuses too much on the “harem” factor on the novels and the anime, and when they had the chance to make an MMORPG with a badass gameplay like “shown” in the novels, they instead decided to focus more on the “harem” factor, and since it occupies at least 60% of the trailer they probably are gona focus more on that than developing an actual battle gameplay.

  • DanielGearSolid

    I wanna play

  • Luke Blackwood

They allow you to go on dates with your AI daughter, with characters that aren’t even from the SAO arc AND STILL NO SIGHT OF ALICIZATION CHARACTERS. Nice work there, BAMCO :/

    • DyLaN

I saw ppl speculated tht Filia is Alice though.

And Alicization is too far lol. GGO is at least around the corner.

  • Furu Chi

I need this in my life!!!!!! Localize please! :((

  • Yan Zhao

Silica is the right choice obviously.

  • Thrasher429

1:40 in the trailer…Kirito you little pervert you,

    • TheExile285

      Wasn’t even subtle lol

    • Anesia Hunter

that was bold, but still funny.

  • TheExile285

I need this game. Leafa FTW!

  • cloudcaelum

Anyone know good site instructive Japanese language generally for game terms?

    Time had come…

  • Anesia Hunter

the music sounds great, the graphics look great and the gameplay looks awesome.

    i hope they localize this.

  • Brotato Chip

    this looks amazing…

  • Nitraion

    SAO:Kirito’s harem tale… :V
Lol They show us kirito can peek under a skirt in trailer?? XD

  • DyLaN

The quality of the cel shaded cutscenes continue to amaze me. Some of the field look nice too like the magitek one.

I remember some1 mentioned tht he wants to try to get an upskirt shot in IM XD

Also look like the Kobold boss decided to join the harem after Skull Reaper did it :P

  • Prinny Dood

    Kirito the playa

    • Servant BerserCAR

      Philia is his next target.

    • God

The MMO version of Minato Arisato.

  • Raltrios

    I don’t recognize the purple girl…

    • DyLaN

Original character frm IM. She Strea and voiced by Sachika Misawa.

      • Raltrios

        Ah, thanks.

  • Sergio Briceño

    1:30 – 1:45
If the girl likes you, you can hold hands. If you guys are close, you can carry her on your arms. If she doesn’t stand you you can always look at her pantsu.

  • artemisthemp

Now we just need a localization confirmation from Namco

  • Tenetan

Both .Hack and SAO is about the same age, both released the same year and almost month. So dunno if we want to say something about the originl Maybe Otherland? Then again might be even older stories with peoples stuck in MMO like worlds.

  • Rayhan PromisedGallery

Sword art online, aka Twillight of Anime

  • God

May i ask why? (not trying to start a discussion, i simply don’t understand the comment)

  • Anko Is Furious (King T.G.P)

I’m sorry but your information is wrong lol. .Hack has been out way longer. SAO was created around September 2010 and .Hack had games already released in 2002 and that’s all the evidence needed to prove my point.

  • David García Abril

I think people who use this sentence don’t really understand why “Twilight” is criticized in the fist place.

Because no, it’s not because of the wish fulfillment.

  • DyLaN

DiaLovers fit the statement more IMO.

  • Renaldi Saputra

I don’t know why some of SAO fans do defending by saying it and .hack are both at the same year blahblahblah..

  • Tenetan

SAO released year 2002, I’m sorry that you don’t not know this, Year 2010 the manga released however the original story, the web novel released year 2002.

Reki Kawahara wrote the first volume in 2002 as a competition entry for ASCII Media Works’ Dengeki Game Novel Prize (電撃ゲーム小説大賞 Dengeki Game Shōsetsu Taishō?, now Dengeki Novel Prize), but refrained from submitting it as he had exceeded the page limit. He instead published it as a web novel under the pseudonym Fumio Kunori.[2]

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sword_Art_Online#Light_novels

  • Anko Is Furious (King T.G.P)

Not many people can accept the truth and try to find a way to defend what they tend to be a fan of nowadays is possibly the reason though and I know it might offend a few people but its obviously true. Nothing is wrong with them rooting for their favorite thing but them using false information to try and go against something is the only thing that bugs me.

  • Arcana Wiz

i dont know why haters come to a article to insult the fanbase. I dont go in .Hack articles saying bad things about it, actually i hope for it, cause i know fans would be happy to have a new game.

  • Kelohmello

Because it’s stupid to instantly call one thing a ripoff of another. SAO’s been around just as long as dothack, this is a fact. Kawahara was working on SAO for a long time before his novel started, even.

  • Renaldi Saputra

I see, ok I understood after reading

  • Tenetan

Please let me know what information I gave you that was wrong, read my other post above for source of my claim, I can provide more if I must but that will require you to be able to read Japanese.

And BTW I like both .Hack, SAO, and Otherland for the mater. I’m jus tired of “.Hack was first” and that SAO is a ripoff of it.

  • God

I’m not trying to defend it, and i REALLY don’t care if it’s a copy of .Hack or not, maybe it is, but the first sword art online was published online on 2002.

  • Anko Is Furious (King T.G.P)

Well If that section is even true the debate about same year has easily proved me wrong. As for the part on which came along first or has been around longer that is still debatable however. Is there a month set on when he first wrote that novel? I only ask that because in 2002 .Hack already had anime and games released and all I keep finding is results on that competition in 2002 with nothing else set lol.

  • Bigabu Beaze

Dude by your logic the story / character designs for .hack had to of been finished before the game’s release in 02. The ground work for .hack could of been laid out in 00 or 01. So .hack was first.

  • God

Off topic, but with all the awesome RPGs out there, would you still recomend .Hack to someone in this day and age? it seems interesting but i have a crapload of RPGs in my “To play” list (i don’t care about graphics though).

  • Anko Is Furious (King T.G.P)

Didn’t see your second part added o.O.. Thing is I like both also and with all the evidence shown from .Hack’s compared to SAO’s and remaining completely unbiased its safe to see why the talk on .Hack being around first is even around lol. We only have the year of 2002 where SAO’s creator supposedly wrote and was working with no actual date compared to .Hack already having animes, games plus novels (I think the novels were late though) without anyone taking the time to realize the time it took/takes for the development so to use something that was stated and never shown with no exact proof the same year as a fact against .Hack which has already had everything out is completely biased on the people doing the same (As in its been around just as long) for SAO lol.

  • Arcana Wiz

lol now you’re just hating it or not wanting to swallow your pride and admit that you’re wrong.

  • Arcana Wiz

i liked it very much in the ps2 era, dunno now, many jrpgs that i would recommend today some think that are outdated, but it’s a cool franchise.

  • Tenetan

I like .Hack quite a bit however I do belive the game is pretty dated by todays standard and haven’t aged very well sadly. There is also rumors floating around about a HD remake as well but it’s still just a rumor.

  • icecoffemix

GU is quite good gameplay wise, but the original four are starting to show their age.

  • Anko Is Furious (King T.G.P)

I was never going against SAO and I’ve admitted “if” (Its easy to be curious or somewhat doubt when all that’s mentioned is the year only in every search lol.) that 2002 part is true then those two being out the same year has proved me wrong.. I’ve just been throwing out the obvious facts that has been shown from one side and all that still remains is what I’ve mentioned above lol.

  • Lynx

This should really be common sense at this point.

.hack was a MASSIVE project. Even before the games were released in 02, it was probably having the ground work laid a year before, minimum.

  • Bunzi

To me it takes the person playing an MMO concept and squanders it with goofy anime and harem tropes. A great example is the mirror in the first episode of the anime (that’s all I’ve seen, and I didn’t care to watch too many more episodes or explore it more once I saw the opening) – that could of been a great opportunity to explore the idea of creating a character much more attractive than yourself, or maybe even of a different gender than you (there’s a throwaway joke about a crossplaying fat guy, but we never see him longer than ten minutes).

Instead…. What d’you know? Hero boy looks pretty much exactly like his character, and hey, so does his new friend! But man they sure do have some great anime fun time adventures even though they’re supposedly fighting for their lives and their bodies should be atrophying and all kinds of interesting concepts in the real world that -could- be explored but aren’t because the writer’s not very good.

  • icecoffemix

I don’t like SAO too but I think you’re being quite unfair and act like you know everything about the series even though you’ve only watched the first episode.

The thing you’re complaining about are explained quite thoroughly later on. SAO has many other problems beside those.

  • Bunzi

I did some research – it’s another generic harem anime with a premise that could of gone somewhere but never does, because than it’d get in the way of the fanservice.

  • icecoffemix

The romance side, yes it’s pretty bad, but I quite enjoyed his take on VR gaming although many of them screams generic, cliche or just plain bad writing with lots of deus ex.

Not sure where you want it to go though.

  • Bigabu Beaze

Yeah! Off topic but do u like Armored Core? Since Lynx is in your name.

  • DyLaN

Some of the deus ex are eventually addressed in Alicization IIRC.

  • icecoffemix

Haven’t read past volume 11 or 12 (forgot) but that would require pretty convincing argument to make me believe it’s anything but BS. :P
