First Look At Casting Voice, The PS3 Game Where You Play As A Voice Actor Producer

By Spencer . December 23, 2013 . 2:13am

castingvoice_01Namco Bandai is turning the voice acting industry into a video game with Casting Voice. The PlayStation 3 game has players step into the shoes of a voice actor producer for anime and drama series.

In casting mode you choose voice actors for different roles and in production mode you work with the actor to help them perform their best. Casting Voice has over 40 voice actors. Here’s a look at some of them.

Casting Voice is slated for release in 2014 for PlayStation 3.

  • I don’t know how to feel about helping anime characters voice anime characters… (inceptionBWEAAAAAOOOOO.wav)

    • David García Abril

This is definitely going to become the running gag among western fans of the game. lol

For me, I like to call it “Voice actingception”. lol

    • X_Bacon
  • JustThisOne

I like the idea of this! :> And over 40 different voice actors, huh? I wonder if any of them really are newbies? That’d be so realistic!

  • Raze

    Over 40?
Newbie va are fine I guess…But I hope they’ll throw in some popular va too…
    Like….maybe Sugita or Miyuki…

    • 永次

Shigeru Chiba and Kikuko Inoue have the same of newbie than you of seiyuu.

  • AdvancedWind

Ready for the Norio Wakamoto DLC.

    • 永次

      Why DLC?

      • Maybe not all the potential voice actors’ deals could be completed in time for the game release, or something. Just my two cents.

    • PreyMantis

I wanna play as Dan Green.

  • Kumiko Akimoto

Do i get to date them?

  • Chim_era

I always wanted to be a voice actor when I was young. I remember being ecstatic when people told me I had a lovely voice. A game like this is definitely something for me. I may never be a voice actor but with a game like this at least I can dream a little longer ;)

So maybe impossible but please translate :p

    • Guest

      Yes, translate HAHAHA.

  • Isaac Newton

    Hmmm interesting…

  • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

They should ad a music mode where they work with composers and producers

    • While it sounds good, I don’t know, wouldn’t it cost them more to do? Considering the article mentions it having over 40 VAs in it.

I think it would be best to have a focal point, if the game does well, as a new IP, then we can think about added extras.

    • Kaetsu

I like the idea but that seems like an idea for a whole new game not a little something to add to this one.

  • Freud_Hater

I know it will probably never will, but I hope to God (of any religion, really, whichever works) that this gets released in North America. I know a lot of people like to bitch about english VA, but I think this could be awesome! >:3

    • 永次

      I hope not.

      • Freud_Hater

Yes yes, I can respect that too ^^’

        • Alos88

I can’t, he’s hoping people overseas are denied the chance to play this for what are probably petty reasons.

          • Renaldi Saputra

denied? PS3 isn’t region locked anw

and I understood why he said so. Bcos he is afraid Namdai will do dubbing in this game if that really happens and that will certainly lose all the senses of this game

          • Alos88

I’d rather have a less than perfect dub than no game at all, and I’m not interested in importing a version I won’t be able to understand at all.

          • Renaldi Saputra

a VN or simulation game needs so much time to be translated, I think Namdai might have no time to do such a thing, also this kind of game might be very taboo in the west

    • Ryo-kun

Well if they want to localize it, I’d say they keep everything intact- just translate the texts. I prefer japanese voices haha.

      • Renaldi Saputra

        you forgot that it’s Namdai

and you’ll lose all the senses of this game if Namdai give them all english voice actors

    • Nitraion

Maybe we need game called “localize Actor”
because Localize and voicing original might be kinda different a bit

      • Renaldi Saputra

from what I expected first from this game, this is a Japanese-only game by Namdai. It might not be appropriate for western users

        • Nitraion

“appropriate”?? you make it sound like a hentai game or something…. XD

          ok,let me see mangamer catalog….
maybe “popular” is the right word because I admit it sometimes i am too lazy too read

          • Renaldi Saputra

            no, not hentai related..
ah yes, you’re right.. not popular, thus not appropriate bcos it might be taboo..

          • Nitraion

            ==” why taboo???
there is a few translated VN games you know…
as i say above “appropriate” is not the right word…

its not popular genre because “Read is pain”if i say many people complaint about this game genre because of that

          • Renaldi Saputra

yeah, there’s only a few and mostly only PC..
you know this is Namco Bandai..

is taboo bcos this is a VN about voice acting.. not like another VN

          • Nitraion

I’m still don’t get your “taboo” part kinda exaggerate if i say…
but bamco doesn’t release any great potential Vita games,Let alone this type of game
recent tales series is break free might be baba influence

          • Renaldi Saputra

if it’s vita or PS3, that’s the same.. the only thing is what the game is

    • Renaldi Saputra

      1. Namco Bandai never bring its VN/simulation console/handheld games to america
      2. Visual novels aren’t popular in america
      3. There are only a few anime watchers in the west who are concerned in japanese voice acting

anw it’s PS3 and it’s not region locked

  • Sounds interesting. Can’t wait to see some gameplay vids for this.

Off-topic: Is anyone else having a problem accessing the OT (Open Thread)’s Disqus?

    • Renaldi Saputra

since last 2-3 days I have been having problems

      • Glad to hear it wasn’t just me. Its back now, so everything’s good.

        • Renaldi Saputra

    • Nitraion

      huh? you too i can’t access OT 3-4 days……
it thought my internet is suck

      • Same. I was thinking my internet was acting up. Fortunately, its back up now. Happy days.

  • colorblindnightmare

The idea of this is amazing. If this comes to the syayes will pick up 100%. Also 4 VA’s is ridiculous

  • エリン

As a huge seiyuu fan, I’m ecstatic! Really hoping Yonaga Tsubasa, Yuuki Kaji and Sakurai have characters~

I wonder why they would release it on PS3, as opposed to the Vita? (which seems more suited to the general concept)

  • We need a game where it has us record dialogue that the game uses whenever the MC talks… and for those of us who are lazy, simple preset voices. :P

    • SnackEater

I’ve wanted that for a long time!

  • Demeanor

If I ever have need for an internally angry guy set on becoming an avenger of sorts, I’ll definitely call on Sugiyama Noriaki. Right, Rakiel and Sasuke-kun and Ishida Uryuu? XD

  • almostautumn

Presentation is very nice, and with voice-acting being the big deal it is in the east I can definitely see this game hitting on some commercial success.

  • Ty Arnold

If they somehow translate this game, I will play it and cast whoever is voiced by Yuri Lowenthal (because of course someone will be) in everything, to make my run as realistic as possible.

    • 永次

  • Ryo-kun

This looks interesting. I kind of want to be a voice actor myself if I have the chances :)

  • I dunno what I feel about this…it would of been cool if it wasnt a visual novel but…Ill see where this game goes.

  • Nitraion

    Haha 40 Voice actor???
so this might be reunion or Chance for Voice actor/actress throw their party while voicing this game…
    they must be having fun

  • Göran Isacson

Gotta say, I think this sounds really cool. It’s like an Idolmaster game, except there’s actually a variety of character designs to lead and work with! Dudes are in this game… dudes with facial hair. This is new and exciting territory, man.

  • TerrenceEncore Jones

I wonder if these characters will get song/drama CDs
