Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth Screenshots Bring Digimon Into The Real World

By Spencer . December 27, 2013 . 12:49am

The digital and real worlds come together in Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth. Players will be able to run around Japan with Agumon following behind as seen in these screenshots with Digimon about to ride the subway.

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth is still far off since the PlayStation Vita game is slated for release in 2015.

Yaaay! Terriermon! I hope they’re all cool guys that say coolguy detective stuff!

  • Renaldi Saputra

for those who didn’t know, the big digimon on the screenshot is grandlocomon, from digimon tamers movie 2 if you watch it, or playing digimon story series in DS

    • Also, IIRC, GrandLocomon showed up also in Xros Wars, yes?

      • Renaldi Saputra

oh yes, IIRC on the episode which shows Pinocchimon on a junk region

  • Altin

Reminds me of Digimon World 3, which is a good thing!

    • Renaldi Saputra

it wasn’t actually, it did have so much flaws

      • Altin

Different strokes for different folks. It had a good play length, the art style was very nice and the gameplay was not bad either. I feel for you if you had the crippled US Version though. But I am also one of the people who disliked DW2 so make of that whatever you want ;)

        • Renaldi Saputra

the graphic is good indeed, especially the 2d.. but sadly there’re quite a lot flaws such like too much encounters, no auto-pilot items, not-useful techniques except special ones, etc

btw, what version did u play? the PAL one?

          • Altin

Granted, the encounters can be tedious sometimes. Some of the techniques are good though, like Dinohumons Attack Buff.

Yeah, it was one of the rare games that I possessed for my little grey machine ;)

          • Renaldi Saputra

            so it’s digimon world 2003

          • Altin

If we want to be rather precise, yeah ;)

  • Shady Shariest

    This looks so cool and gives me childhood kicks ;_;
If only there was a slim chance of localization…

    • Renaldi Saputra

uh, well, it’s VITA.. but, ummm… ahh, dammit

      • Shady Shariest

        *nods* *nods*

  • The protagonist resembles Re: Digitize’s Taiga with the hair style and that yellow x-print at the back of his shirt.

    • Renaldi Saputra

wonder if Namdai keep Yasuda Suzuhito for this game’s character designer

      • Hopefully. *Pervy grin*

  • Edgar Garcia

I am one of the few who like digimon more than pokemon.
Even if they poop lol I always felt a closer attachment to digimon and when they die or reincarnate you feel a bit down, but also encourage to surpass the previous one.

    • MaximDualBlade

I get you man. I like that the digimon talk and are more partners, I also like the fact that they can actually die, an even if they reincarnate ina digi-egg that doesn’t mean they will become the exact same digimon and the whole mythos was always exciting for me to know.

The overworld is sure looking good, I like the colors especially and with a release date so far off, they can get better.
Let’s hope that we can train hundreds of different digimon especially Sukamon :)

      • Edgar Garcia

Yes!! there is a huge satisfaction about going in a adventure with a digimon you bonded with and beating bosses without the need oh I gotta catch it. I never felt the need for it. Gives a greater reward been able to digivolve in a certain digimon that requires work and patience.

The theme of this game makes me think of the possibility of online play. Teaming up with friends or having tournaments would add lots of gametime. Even sukamon deserve to be loved xD

        • Renaldi Saputra

          and numemon too

      • Rolling Guy

I personally loved Tamers. Never really got into Pokemon. I hope we get Renamon. That fox was my favorite!

        • MaximDualBlade

I also loved Tamers, even though I disliked Takato, he was such a crybaby. I recently rewatched Adventure and 02 adventure and 02 was story was non existent until the end, when I was a child I didn’t get that and I guess seeing the cast from Adventure hyped me too much and I forgave it, but in retrospect Tamers was better(for me of course) than 02.

Oh and Renamon is such a badass!

          • Renaldi Saputra

why you hate Takato just bcos he’s crybaby? He’s only a sweet innocent child who is a big fan of digimon which is very sensitive and tenderhearted. He’s much different from typical shounen hotblooded, straightforward, blockheaded, and silly main character.. and Takato has the most of character development amogst all digimon series’ main character, he’s the deconstructed of shounen Main Character bcos he acted like what a 10 yrs old boy do and think on their age

          • MaximDualBlade

I didn’t cry for everything when I was 10 years old, and I watched Tamers when I was around that age, so I didn’t feel connected with the character. He eventually grows up, but his initial personality left a really bad impression on me

          • Renaldi Saputra

but some boys (that have soft personality) are still crying on that age. And he still think that digimon can be real and can be their friends, until he found and realized that their precious friends are just a bunch of data

          • MaximDualBlade

I know, crying is not bad, but crying a lot was just obnoxious. I preferred Rika overall, she was really cool. And who says I stopped believing ;)

          • Renaldi Saputra

Hey, he didn’t cry a lot like a spoiled kid. Mostly the reasons why he cried were reasonable, though. From being scared of his precious guilmon evolved into a giant berserk kaijuu, worrying much about guilmon whether he’ll be troublesome for ppl, worrying about his parents (especially his mom), failed to protect growmon for not being seen by ppl (bcos growmon’s appearance might be threatening for ppl who see it), understanding the feel of watching your friend’s precious thing died (Juri’s Leomon), and saying farewell to his parents (When he must leave his parents for doing something important for both real world and digital world).

He even said to Guilmon in one episode that he hated that part (crybaby) of him (mentioning the time when guilmon evolved into growmon) and he’s trying to overcome that feeling. Eventually he succeed.

Maybe you’re not being used into a tenderhearted shounen Main Character. I personally like most of the characters in Tamers. They’re much more realistic unlike other digimon series’ chara and other typical shounen anime.

Ah, you’d better go with the Tamers’ CD Drama, I bet you haven’t heard of that

          • MaximDualBlade

I just saw the series when I was way younger, I haven’t seen it again since like 10 years ago, so all that info is too much for my memory. I still didn’t like him at first, that will not change. I like Tamers a lot (more than adventure 02).
By the way, your profile picture, what is it? It looks like a Dragonite to me, but I’m sure that it isn’t.

          • Renaldi Saputra

well, maybe if you take a look at Tamers again, you’ll change somehow.

Oh my profile picture is Dogmon with Doge meme

    • makubexnas

uGGGHHHH!! looking at the screenshots feel like a kick in my childhood nuts.

      • Edgar Garcia

I wonder if this game will be like a combination of digimon world 3 and digimon redigitize. It be quite cool to raise multiple digimon at the same time. Have a starter pack and raise them differently.

        • Renaldi Saputra

also we can travel into real world

          • Edgar Garcia

:3 I wonder how much of japan will we be able to explore, I get a feeiling it will have dungeon maps in the real world similar to the persona games and have a big hub where one can shop and rest. Since it is a Vita game it be epictacular! to have two huge open worlds…but im dreaming too big ain’t I :|

        • Torraint

since the last digimon game i played didn’t have physical weakness & attack effectiveness system (except monmon evolution family’s varied Buster attack)
isn’t raising multiple digimon a waste?

    • FlyingPony

Same as you, Digimon and Pokemon was aired simultaneously when I was a kid, and I enjoy Digimon better than Pokemon.

I think it’s due to Digimon have more unique world (drifting island, pyramid, industrial remnant), the Digimon and trainer is lot closer and chill out like a friends, and the Digivolution scene and song when the trainer in pinch… AWESOME!!!

  • HassanJamal

Dayummmm at those visuals. Looking good :D

  • Ryo-kun

Haven’t been following digimon but this looks good! I only ever played digimon world 3 hahaha

  • Detrimont

    Ikebukuro here i come

  • Abysswalker90

Is this really for the Vita? Those are some of the best PSV graphics I’ve ever seen. GrandLocomon and Angewomon’s hair details are blowing my mind.
Ah, Angewomon, the most physically attractive Digimon there is, how I longed for a high res shot of thee.

  • Oliver Teigaga

Everyone who wants this localised, remember the list sony’s 3rd party team are working on. Go on twitter and ask @ giocorsi and @shahidkamal for this game to be brought over. Personal preferences aside, this really is one of the few japanese exclusives which really has potential to do well in the west.

  • cloudcaelum

Hell, looks amazing, can’t wait! Hope clean like this, not some sub res sh!t. Really wonder about battle system, turn based? (i hope)

    • Renaldi Saputra

      not yet announced

    • Stephen

It’s a Digimon Story game which, unlike the World series, has had fairly consistent battle systems so far. It should be turn based, unless they decided to change the system up from DS to Vita.

  • Unlimax

This is by far the Best looking Digimon game i have ever seen .. Honestly it feels like a PS4 Quality game , Vita Needs more quality games like this one !

    • Renaldi Saputra

no wonder why they won’t release it too early

    • cloudcaelum

Vita powerfull than the PS3 confirmed. :P

I always wanted a PS3 quality Digimon game and now we got PS4 quality Digimon game, i agree.

  • Vash bane

im not a graphic whore … but WOW! does that look gorgeous

I hope they put Renamon into it and the Olympus 12 since Royal Knights are going to make their way in the game anyway.

    • Alexander Marquis Starkey

Speaking of which are all of the Olympus 12 out yet?

      • Renaldi Saputra

        only 1 left

  • Wow, looks pretty good! Please, release it in Europe! D:

  • Chido55

    Seriously, teasing a Digimon game for Vita that would only come in the next 2 years? You’re torturing me man ;__________;

On another note, MOAR! Give VITA MOAR! <3

  • Aesma

Here’s hoping that it’s in Hiragana/Katakana (Or at least, Kanji with Furigana) like most other Digimon games. I can at least play them that way.

On a side note, for those who already gave up on Digimon localization, I advise you to learn Hiragana and Katakana at least. One of the most difficult thing learning Japan is Kanji, but most Digimon games have no Kanji (Or at least, they have small Hiragana (Furigana) on it). I managed to play Lost Evolution with limited knowledge of Japanese language…

    • Abysswalker90

Yup. I played nearly every Digimon game in Japanese, and started out only knowing katakana. Thanks to that, I managed to memorize both Hiragana and Katakana, which is plenty enough to get your way through any Digimon game. Basic Japanese also helps, but it’s a lot more accessible than people make it out to be.

      • Aesma

Yeah, unlike Teen-rated or Mature-rated games with many Kanji (and nearly 0 Furigana), Digimon games are good games for beginners in Japanese language, it can double as training for them to expand their vocabulary.

        • Suzaku

One thing of note here, however. The information on the website describes this as a project aimed at, “all the Digimon fans that have grown up.”

          • Cirehpsa

          • Steven Higgins

Yeah, so was Re:Digitize, see that localization anywhere?

          • Aesma

Abysswalker is talking about Japanese fans. In Japan, some/most children lack knowledge of difficult Kanji (Chinese characters), and so, Digimon use ‘basic’ Japanese characters, Hiragana and Katakana.

          • Steven Higgins

I was actually replying to Suzaku

          • Aesma

…umm, what does Suzaku’s words have to do with localization?

          • Steven Higgins

He seemed to be implying that it being aimed at “ALL the Digimon fans that have grown up” leads to the possibility of localization. That’s all.

          • Aesma

…I guess we can just pray that they will at least put furigana on the kanji. …like Digitize.

          • Abysswalker90

They probably will. I doubt they would alienate the younger crowd which makes a big portion of the fan base, when they can actually capture both the older and younger fans.

        • Renaldi Saputra

maybe that’s only re:digitize for you
I played digimon digital card battle 1999 and there’s no furigana, but kanji and kana(s)
even though, they put english places in it so we can’t lose traces

          • Aesma

This game is ‘said’ to be part of Digimon Story (For DS, Dawn, Dusk, Lost Evo, Xros) all of which mainly use hiragana and katakana (For the story at least)…

          • Renaldi Saputra

well, hopefully they use re:digitize trend of being furigana

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

as long as Lilithmon is in it

  • harmonyworld

If I can have a Renamon, all will be well~

  • Syn

Give me my lovely Lucemon and I for one will be more than stoked!!!!!!! Man I love digimon.

    edited :P

    • Renaldi Saputra

      • Syn

oh my word…..this is what happens when over a year passes since I last touched anything Digi related, so ashamed. I mean I even finished Re-Degitize in Japanese, didnt understand the dialogue but after a few hours, the menu and systems made sense

    • Steven Higgins

They need to give him a Champion form.

      • Renaldi Saputra

maybe bcos lucemon is a special child level digimon, it doesn’t need an adult form

        • Steven Higgins

But since it goes straight from Child to Perfect (fall down/chaos mode) they should fill the gap.

  • sangokas kakarotas

This looks really good. Can’t wait to see some game play footage.

  • Learii

they never bring digimon to the west after Digimon 3 =(

    • konsama

In game terms, Digimon world 4 was out here for PS2, along rumble arena 2.

The DS got many digimon games out here too.

In anime frontier and data squad at least were out on TV.

So don’t really know what you’re referring to.

      • Learii

oh I never heard on Digimon 4 and I never knew rumble arena 2 come over sea

    • Renaldi Saputra

      oh you missed a lot

      • Learii

        I guess I did =/

        • Steven Higgins

Actually, the last game they brought over was was Digimon word Championship, which was a mistake because, from what i heard, it was a terrible game that turned most many fans off making them nervous about localizing them anymore.

As for anime, they actually stated airing the 6th season a couple moths ago.

          • Learii

oh I never heard of that one

  • konsama

nice, and triple partners too, now looking even more like World 3, with the 3 following you behind, but also with the game looks and the japan feel, reminding me a lot of Megaten 4. Getting really hyped by this.

  • Nitraion

    Wow look nice….
hmm but i mostly doesn’t know new digimon design XD
so i might be getting confused…. i only see until season 3 which IMO its not as good as first two season….

    • Renaldi Saputra

grandlocomon is a 2001 digimon and it’s in tamers’ movie..
season 3 isn’t good? why? it’s the only season which is very loyal to the original concept of digimon, also had darker and edgier story

      • Chido55

I agree on the darker and edgier story. Takato came up as my favorite lead because he feels so much real than over-spirited kids lead imo.

        • Renaldi Saputra

almost all the characters in tamers are realistic, they’re not anime-ish in behavior. Takato isn’t a generic shounen main character type, which is rarely shown in any shounen series. He’s rather a very normal child and a big digimon fan, also he’s an artistic one.
yeah, he’s my favorite digimon main character too

  • FivePointedTheStar

Has no one said anything about the Wargreymon TANK?! It… it is a tank, right?

  • tubers

    PS4? Hyperbolic much.

Guys, please factor in for the high likelihood of these being “bullshots”.

That’s some insane amount of AA and maybe even downsampled.

It will still look pretty good but unlikely that’s the actual image quality. No jaggies, really?

Even Sony did it with their own games (high res bullshots/promo shots):

VITA 3D games do look very very close to PS3 if and when they they run native + AA and stable stable (KZM is dynamic.. great in still shots.. not so great in camera swinging).

If only it was a bit more powerful.

  • Sergio BriceƱo

I need to see a bad picture from this game so I can start believing. It just looks too good to be true.

  • PotatoPower

reminds me of smt cuz of the subway lol

  • charles addow

WHY must my wallet suffer so! if this doesn’t get localization im importing asap!

  • Steven Higgins

They’re really trying hard not to reveal the protagonists face, huh?

  • Earthjolly

    God this looks gorgeous

  • Ben Green

I’d kill for this game. someone should make a petition or something to get this game localized! ugh

  • LazuliteLiamz

I thought the graphic would be like Digimon Masters Online, but this is way better than I expected! <3

    • Renaldi Saputra

      DMO is korean, it’s different
