Is Nippon Ichi Teasing A New Game With Their New Year’s Card

By Spencer . January 1, 2014 . 11:03pm

Instead of sending Christmas cards, it’s common for Japanese companies to send New Year’s Cards. Nippon Ichi Software may have hinted about a future game in a card send to Famitsu. Underneath The Witch and the Hundred Knight and Disgaea 4 Return are close ups of three characters. Perhaps these are from a new game?

Atlus snuck in a similar teaser on their holiday card which has a character from Devil Survivor 2: Break Record, the Nintendo 3DS version, hidden in the "A".

Didn’t they do cards like this for the Disagea 3 and 4 reveals. May be the Disgaea 5 characters

    • Sal

IIRC last year’s was The Guided Fate Paradox, so it doesn’t have to be Disgaea. And I think it’s a little too early for a new numbered Disgaea game.

    • Suriel Cruz

I am looking forward to Disgaea 5, I actually CAN’T WAIT, but to be honest I’m waiting a DLC scenario for Disgaea D2 at this point. The art style is not of the Disgaea series, this is by judging these characters eyes, since they don’t look like Disgaea’s, they look more like the The Guided Fate Paradox art style. IMO.

  • Raze

It’s Gig and Revya both gender

    Soul Nomad 2 confirmed…

    Maybe….

    • Firekitty

From your lips to NIS’s ears.

    • Mar Mar

      Same thought here.

      Maybe….

    • DyLaN

Noizi Ito for (hypothetical) SN2 character design?

  • TatsuyaKyo

“Hidden in the A” huh, hmm….

    … could “A” mean Asagi?

Which could also mean… Makai Wars?!

    .
    ..

No no no, I shouldn’t get my hopes too high… T_T

    • BossBullet

      Opps double post

    • BossBullet

But that’s atlus holiday card and not Nippon ichi as shown here.
So makai wars still currently unknown

2014 will be a happy new year indeed =)

  • Mitsukiix

the bottom one is noize ito art style, i recognize it almost instantly

    • Demeanor

I would sell my very soul for a sequel to Guided Fate Paradox!!! Noizi Ito x Yousei Teikoku ftw!!!

      • megaten666

I literally knew nothing about Kamipara. When my friend said I should play with it I thought… “why not”.
The moment I heared the game’s opening by Yousei Teikoku… well let’s just say that I had to stop at a game store when I went home :D

I am a fan of Yui-sama and Yousei Teikoku :) Love them! :D

The game though maybe is a little too heavy on cutscenes, (lenghty, sometimes boring cutscenes) but the overall gameplay is really enjoyable, and the OST is just the way I like it. I’m on my first run and on Lesson 3… mermaids kicking my a*s XD

        • Demeanor

I tend to not be bothered at all by lengthy cutscenes, in fact never skipped one in my entire life, that’s probably why I immensely enjoy titles like the Atelier series or the Neptunia games, I find that all the scenes are there to flesh out the characters and story – I mean, after finishing Paradox I know the angels’ personalities inside and out, something I cannot say about a ton of other rpgs who don’t spend as much time “working” on them.
Music is awesome (try buying and setting as a BGM Complete Destruction Paradox or Dazzled Butterfly), gameplay is addictive and dangerous (tho it can get quite grindy), bosses never cease to surprise you and offer a BIG challenge, and after you finish the main story and read up some guides for the Platinum you discover that there’s a ton of depth still left, that is, the usual 100 million damage NIS thingy XD
Some tips for the mermaids and for difficulty spikes in general:
          - the key to strength is stats (at least during main story) and weapon skill capabilities; since I don’t think you’ve unlocked the martial arts dungeon yet (where you go searching for unique equipment), you’ll want to work on the Divinigram: accumulate total levels, unlock tiles, set the icons (you can prioritize def or atk, you can ignore speed), abuse the changers to direct god energy to Arm/Leg/Misc boosts, and remember: the boost % is NOT relative to the equipment stat, it’s relative to your OWN stats for every % that’s > 0% on the item: if I have a weapon with atk+10% and direct +15% god energy to it, Renya will have +25% atk, if that weapon had also def+5%, then Renya would have +25%atk & +20%def from that weapon alone.

          • Demeanor

Also, another basic tidbit who’ll make things easier: if mermaids are killing you it’s probably because of the jump in level between enemy on floor X and enemy on floor X+1: you could have been fighting lv3 mantas and suddenly lv9 mermaids show up and murder you with ranged skills: when that happens spend some time walking around the dungeon killing hi-lv stuff (abuse Angel Toss if you need to get close) so that your level is on par with the mobs. The more you’ve worked on your Divinigram the less levels you’ll need to pummel them,

          • megaten666

Massive. Thanks :D Though it’s not that big of a deal. As I said, the gameplay is really appealing to me (and I’m not a big fan of SRPG), I love the various ways to increase your stats. Grinding is actually fun.

As for the cutscenes: I’m okay with the story related ones and I don’t particularly hate those silly moments when the angels gathers to eat some cake for example. I think the game just went overboard with them. There’s no real balance between the length of the cutscenes and the length of a single floor. It’s not helping that the cutscene’s between floors usually just restatements. Sadly, I tend to fast forward stuff when it gets too long. Not skipping though, since it’s my first run, I never know what would possibly happen in the next moment. Yes. This is my major complain about the game. The nature of the cutscenes.

Angel Toss is hilarious. I LOL’d when I accidently picked up Lilliel the first time. Poor girl :’D And Cheriel’s innuendos are always make me smile.
            Great game :)

    • DyLaN

I think the one on the top is Noizi Ito one as well.

  • Audie Bakerson

I’d say the bottom 2 could pass for Laharl and Flonne (Of course, neither ever really had detailed faces and most hair styles look alike that close), but the top is very much not Etna.

  • CirnoTheStrongest

I see Asagi -> Asagi was promised a game -> Hype

  • Pdugna

*Dead beaten wallet cries from abuse from its owners and goes into a corner* NiS please stop it can’t take anymore.

    • Bigabu Beaze

People really need to stop this meme. If its not in your budget dont buy it! “If I’m sad enough maybe someone will buy it for me.” Stop complaining.

  • DesmaX

Hm, I’m conflicted on this one

From one side, it reminds me of Soul Nomad art (Which would be the best thing ever), but the other reminds me of GFP art (Which woudn’t be the best thing ever. It was her first time doing sprites, and the game shows that; some sprites really looked awkward. But I think she can do better a second time, and she’s a popular artist there in Japan, so it’s a valid way to getting people attention)

    • DyLaN

Isn’t Noizi Ito did the art for a bunch of eroge though? Not exactly her first time.

      • DesmaX

CG images (Whatever those’s are called) aren’t sprites.

        • DyLaN

I believe she draw the VN scenes sprites for the eroges too. Or are you referring to something else?

        • DyLaN
          • DesmaX

            Aren’t those cut-outs? <- wait, no. I brainfarted here

And anyway, I'm talking about the sprites seeing in the main game, not in VN-Styled cutscenes

          • DyLaN

Oh, you mean the in-game ones. But I think those are done by NIS themselves.

          • DesmaX

Nah man, those were drawn by her.

          • DyLaN

If you don’t mind, may I have a look at your source/proof for tht statement?

          • DesmaX

… Seems like I don’t have a source. Seems like I was wrong actually.

I would have to beat the game again to see it on the credits, but screw that.

    • Spirate

I can definitely see Renya from GFP in the second one.

Regarding the sprites in GFP, Harada’s art style is very simple with not much detail and sharp edges, while Ito’s is much more the opposite. I think they kinda sacrificed the sprite quality in order to replicate Ito’s style more and get more of the finer details. Harada’s style translates cleaner into sprites better due to the lack of that.

So many games… Well wallet, its time to say good bye..

  • Yan Zhao

Fairy Fencer F, Ar nosurge, or…something!!! COME ON!!!

    • Hikari Langley

      None of those are NIS

      • Yan Zhao

Neither were most of the games they localized.

        • DesmaX

But this is about NIS, not NIS America

  • TiamatNM

    Battle princess arcadias please

  • God

That looks like the art from Battle Princess Arcadia, just when i had my hopes up for Makai Wars…

    • DyLaN

Uh… nope. The artstyle doesn’t look like BPoA character designer style. The way the eyes are drawn suggests tht its done by Noizi Ito who did the art for TGFP.

      • God

Really? It remembered me a lot to the art of Plume that appeared in DD2… Then my hopes are way up! A new game! And a 5% chance it’s a TGFP sequel!

  • Shady Shariest

    Sta-Sta-Start the hype!
    *Drops the mic*

  • almostautumn

Guided Fate Paradox Vita version? The place where it, you know, should have been in the first place?

  • BeatTheGG

Looks like eating can wait. There are much more important things to be done with my wallet. *flutters off to pre-order*
