By Spencer . January 13, 2014 . 11:12pm

Square Enix has crossovers planned for their three main MMORPGs, Final Fantasy XI, Dragon Quest X, and Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Starting on January 15, players will be able to meet Shantotto from Final Fantasy XI who wound up in the Dragon Quest X world after one of her magical experiments went awry. Players can help Shantotto get items like Gysahl Greens for her chocobo.

Shantotto leaves Dragon Quest X on February 12 to make way for the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn crossover. Kuplu Kopo got lost and wandered into Dragon Quest X’s world and is curious about all of the blossoming flowers here. Your mission is to get Kuplu Kopo a bouquet of colorful flowers! This quest starts on February 15 and will be available until March 12.

Does anyone know if Dragon Quest X is coming stateside?

    • 3PointDecoupage

Maybe someday but dont hold your breath.

Absolutely no word on it, and given Dragon Quest’s general lack of success outside of Japan, I would not count on it.

      • Barrylocke89

Sad but true. I’ve learned to accept it.

      • Asaoko

I’m not too surprised. It’s geared for kids(I know, adults like it too), yet it requires monthly subscription. Parents be fuming. x.x

Unless SE quits treating DQ like shit (since their lack of advertising is why its had troubles in the west), I refuse to purchase a single SE product. They can go bankrupt for all I care. If I want a FF game, there’s a second hand market.

      • M’iau M’iaut

Honestly, as JRPGS go, both DQVIII and DQIX had rather substantial advertising budgets. Actual TV commericals in both cases. In DQIXs case attempts were made through Gamestop and other retailers to highlight the shared quests and item sharing. Yes, much of the latter was NoAs doing, but they weren’t the only ones involved.

Folks really need to step back and understand business — any business — is a what have you done for me proposition. It seemed Dragon Quest was ready to step beyond the niche and the attempt was made to make it so. That didn’t happen, and the series is an expensive one that can’t really be viable simply selling to the niche.

        • Steve Raineault

WRONG! Both of those were fine selling titles, 9 still supported to this day. 5 was even given a reprint after Nintendo took over. 6 sold well over 100,000 copies with meager advertising. Joker 2 had virtually NO advertising- the only one of those to bomb. Fortune Street was advertised as a Mario game- and bombed. If Mario can’t save a board game, nothing can.

Again, not one penny of my money as long as this bullshit resumes.

100k sales compared to 1.3mil sales in Japan? That’s pretty niche if you ask me, especially with advertising done. When it comes down to it, it’s simply not worth it from a business prospective.

Especially when it comes to Dragon Quest IX, a whopping 4mil+ in Japan and barely exceeding 1mil from the rest of the world combined. It sucks to hear, but SE isn’t a charity.

          • KnifeAndFork

Have you seen FF XIII LR’s under 400k sales in Japan? How much do you expect it to do in the west? How much do you predict Bravely Default will do in the West? Why is Bravely Default even greenlighted over Dragon Quest? You realize S-E execs are so out of touch with foreign fan relations that they had no idea that people even wanted Bravely Default in the West and were ‘deeply moved’ when they found out thinking that ‘no one in the West wants these type of turn based RPGs anymore’?
So then that begs the question : what the hell is Square-Enix of the West marketing team even doing because it seems then like S-E is completely clueless in that regard.
Over a million sales in the West for a handheld RPG is nothing to scoff at.
So where’s our Dragon Quest VII 3DS remake? DQM 3DS games?
They’ll localize Drakengard 3 which is way more niche than Dragon Quest and need I remind you they localized the gem known as Mindjack.
And Kingdom Hearts 1.5 sold under 300k so…

        • Steve Raineault

And yeah, we got enough KH and FF here that SE can go bankrupt and I’ll do a tap dance.

          Finally, a sensible response!!!

      Real Answer: No.

That Cacutar pose is the *greatest thing*. Oh my god, I hope we get something that amazing in FFXIV.

I’m wishing for a fully blown Akira Toriyama-style Dungeon, myself. Something that can clash with XIV’s Pastel artstyle (Still hoping that DX11 fixes most of the graphics soon)!

  • fairysun

    I can’t get enough cactuar.

    • AuraGuyChris

“I’ll wipe that smug off your face! Teach you to mess with Sazh!”

  • Virevolte

Aww… I want to be a cactuar guy.

    • Slayven19

But you’re a tonberry good sir.

      • M’iau M’iaut

I had so much tonberry hate in 11 when I quit. I refused to reset it and hunted them with a passion.

      • Virevolte

To tell the truth, I was always jealous of their dancing abilities.

Final Fantasy XIV should get a bunch of Dragon Quest cameos too. C’mon Zenithian sword.
