Dark Souls II Could Potentially Come To Xbox One And PS4

By Ishaan . January 16, 2014 . 1:30pm

Dark Souls II isn’t on next-gen systems, but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t eventually make its way onto Xbox One and PlayStation 4. That said, developer From Software aren’t willing to commit to that happening… yet.

In an interview with Edge magazine, From Software’s Yui Tanimura—who is co-directing Dark Souls II—stated regarding the two new platforms: “We have not put any thought into this yet, so I unfortunately can’t answer at this point.”

Speaking to why From developed Dark Souls II for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Tanimura shared: “At the start of development, we felt that there was still a lot of potential that remained unused in Dark Souls.”

“I hope this can be seen with the demos and footage that we have released. Our intention was to capitalise on the total potential of [seventh-generation] consoles and deliver the game to fans as soon as possible.”

Dark Souls II will be available in March for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with a PC release to follow soon after.

This just makes me want to wait and see if it is released on PS4,if they hadn´t said this i´d buy it for ps3 but now i´m not going to.

    • MrRobbyM

I don’t know about that. Saying what he said basically means no, but I won’t rule out the possibility, just in case.

  • abysswalker

I knew it was going to happen!

I mean, yeah, it’s not confirmed but after the success of Dark Souls and the high expectancy towards Dark Souls 2 I’m pretty sure it’s a given.

The question is: should I get it now or should I wait for the upgraded version?

    • Randgriz

Personally i think you should get it now, From Software seem quite resistant to this change and im pretty sure if this were to happen itd be a Namco Bandai pushing on them to port it. Then who knows if the port would be good or not.

I feel like Namco Bandai will push things onto From Soft with the souls series that the developers just arent interested in…

      • abysswalker

You’re probably right, I remember reading an article about Namdai pushing them to make a mobile Dark Souls but From held their ground by stating that the platform would not prove right for a Souls game.

        • Randgriz

Yeah i think little things like that get me worried about the future relationship between Namco and From. Next theyll be asking From to make Dark Souls free to play with micro-transactions and DLC – SOULS PACK 5,000 = $15

  • Even with this stated I’m still going to buy it for my PS3 when it comes out. Sure it will probably look better and maybe some DLC will be out, but I’ll have already beaten it by then lol

  • Randgriz

Im potentially excited.. actually wait, theres NO potential here – From software basicly just said no.

  • Aqueo

    Nice misleading headline

  • malek86

Interesting, but then I’d have to wait. And who can wait? I’m even giving up on the PC version because I want to play it immediately.

    • abysswalker

What’s going to be interesting will be to see how the PC version turns out, you know, after From said they learned their lessons from Dark Souls.

  • sharpshot909

That’s nice and all, but after they finish development on Dark Souls II, I’d prefer it that they would work on a Souls game that was more like Demon’s Souls than Dark Souls. I love Dark Souls, but I like the world structure of Demon’s Souls more.

    • MrRobbyM

Same. I love the two, but they’re like children to me. I can’t pick one. But Demon’s Souls feels different. A little more mysteriously sinister while Dark Souls feels like a dark fantasy game with lots of lore. I would love the feeling of Demon’s in the next Souls game

  • So what’s this whole “next gen” thing aboot? Anyone loving it?

    • sharpshot909

You’re not missing much on the Xbox One/PS4.

  • MrRobbyM

I don’t think it will happen, as much as I would love it too. I believe the next Souls game could be either exclusive to Ps4/Xbone/PC or on both generations of consoles. If they haven’t considered a port by now, I don’t think it’s likely.

That said, I would gladly throw my money at a next-gen port as long as it’s on par with the PC version if not better. 1080p, 60 fps, no hiccups, yadda yadda.

  • idrawrobots

I would wait, but it doesn’t seem like I am have any reason to wait.

The Souls series has never been about pushing tech. Rather, and in tradition of all great Japanese games, it pushes art. Art will get you a lot further and games than lean on it rather than tech age much more gracefully. From Software was smart to choose the path that they did.

    • Shippoyasha

While I agree, it’s more about the availability of games on the newer systems as a lot of players are moving there alongside their friends. I don’t think visual fidelity factors in it as well though I can see some gamers demanding it. I mean Diablo 3 is getting a PS4 port with the newest expansion pack and the game is not very system intensive considering it ran almost perfectly on PS3.

    • MaximDualBlade

and the lore, never forget it.
I wonder if the rumored From Software game for ps4 will eventually a reality or not. An exclusive Souls game could make me buy a ps4.

    • WyattEpp

It’s one thing to push tech. But I’m more interested in simply having playable framerates. :/

    • ギャビン

I don’t know dude, Dark Souls really wowed me with it’s visuals. It pushes great art and has really good graphics as well. It’s pretty much the whole package.

  • lordsofskulls

Buying for PS3/PC >.> and will buy for PS4… why? >.> cause I love this series and became my top series to play from first 5mins in Demon’s Souls ;3 counting down minutes/hours/seconds/weeks/days/months till this game comes out.

And I am totally taking 2 days off work at least just to enjoy this awesome game.

    • DanielGearSolid

      Are there mods on pc?

  • Logan Moll

So far the potential–according to the demo–that unused potential includes low res textures, dull environments, and a horribly inconsistent max-30 FPS.

  • Would buy both versions if necessary.
And do add ACV to your list too, FromSoft.

    • Ferrick

nay, don’t add ACV, add something else (And NOT ACVerdict day, both were very disappointing)

  • Crevox

This headline makes no sense. He specifically states they have no thought of even bringing it to Xbox One or PS4.

This is probably the worst headline Siliconera has done.

  • Nitraion

This article is bewitching this will make people think they will really do it and make people wait for next-gen version… :/

  • Learii

if this did come to ps4 I wonder which one look better this or deep down

  • DanielGearSolid

    Sorry can’t wait!

  • tubers

    I can see it happen.

The “1.5 game” (ala Artorias of the Abyss) being available first on X1/PS4/PC.. then trickles down later to PS360.

X1/PS4 will skip Dark Souls 2. ver. 1.0.

  • Kornelious

Dark Souls will probably never be on any next-gen console…..because you’d be able to pause :0

  • Headline is a bit misleading lol.

  • karmacoma

Yeah, as has been said, this headline is really misleading. “We hadn’t thought about it at all” doesn’t translate to “hey, it could happen. Stay tuned!”
