Hakuoki: Sweet School Life Educates With Pop Quizzes And Water Gun Fights

By Spencer . January 20, 2014 . 1:18am

Hakuoki: Sweet School Life reimagines the Hakuoki series in modern day with Chizuru being the first girl to attend an all boys high school. Of course, the guys from Hakuoki are her classmates, but in this game they’ll email you on your cell phone.

Idea Factory also added school mini-games like a math questions, a quiz game where you run to grab the correct answer, and a water gun fight called "Relentless Shooting! Summer Survival Shooting" where you shoot other characters with a squirt gun. I can’t remember any school with that kind of game, but then again I can’t recall any school with the Shinsengumi in it either. You can catch the water gun game in the trailer and a maid cafe mini-game that looks kind of like Diner Dash.

Hakuoki: Sweet School Life comes out on March 27 for PlayStation Vita.

  • Looks like a pretty SWEET school life! Seeing how previous Hakuoki games were translated… perhaps this one will be too?

“but in this game they’ll email you on your cell phone”

    Nice, just like in… real… life…….. theoretically…

Not an otome gamer, but I admit the art direction looks stunning…

    • Ladius

I suggest giving a chance to Hakuoki, its historical setting makes it really interesting even for those that aren’t usually invested in otome games. The PS3 version Aksys is localizing will be the most complete to date, I look forward to replaying it.

      • michel

I played it on PSP. Sort of liked the plot and the artwork, but not my kind of game.

  • Paulette

This sweet atmosphere is so unlike Hakuôki ! Could be disappointing, but I’d love to get to know Hijikata and Kazama in time of peace… with their shirts off ♥

  • Kumiko Akimoto

Yes Aksys come on don’t make me summon the devil over this

  • I haven’t heard good things about the mini games in the Hakuouki spin-offs, so I hope the ones in this turn out to be fun. Otherwise, I hope there’s a minigame-free story mode for those who don’t have the patience.

  • Alexandra Cordes

Importing this, definitely. Just for Heisuke’s route.

  • …… *Tosses money at the monitor*

  • Juan Andrés Valencia

An ancient clan on high school fighting other clans while finding a romantic partner? Where did I hear that concept…? IKKI TOUSEN :|

Honestly, I’d much prefer an actual sequel but hey, this will do for the mean time.

  • PenguinChan1119

Why can you never date Shinpachi? It’s a tragedy. He seems so hilarious and cute.

    • They should’ve made Yamazaki dateable as well :/

I read on B-log that there’s a shinsengumi iOS game being developed where you can date Shinpachi instead of Hijikata. Souji Okita also seems to have a more serious personality in that game compared to how Hakuouki had portrayed him.

    • Estellise

Actually, Shinpachi and a few other sub characters do have (probably more minor than the mains) routes in SSL. There’s a CG from the website with him carrying Chizuru on his shoulder and I’ve read about it in the dengeki girl style magazine.

      • PenguinChan1119

would you mind linking to the article my Kanji is slightly limited but it is getting better I would probably get the gist of the article. This CG gives me hope.

  • schwarzmasa

I like Hakuoki, but I dislike fluffy school life stories. I feel conflicted. : (

  • yellowmage

Am I the only one to notice that the guy in the screenshot looks exactly like Sebastian Michaelis?

  • celery

If this gets localized, I will hands-down buy a Vita. No questions asked.

  • Ritsuioko23

ugh, why cant more otome games have a yuri option?

    • Firekitty

For the same reason the mountain of games with a male player character and a romance mechanic rarely include a yaoi option.
