Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Patch 2.2 Coming In March

By Sato . January 27, 2014 . 9:00am

Square Enix recently confirmed that Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will be released on April 14th for PlayStation 4. Meanwhile, producer Naoki Yoshida also talked about details on the upcoming patch 2.2 in their latest Letter from the Producer Q&A series for the game.

Before we get to that, though, Yoshida revealed that the patch 2.16 will be released on February 22, just before 2.2 hits sometime in March. Now, here’s a look at some of the improvements and additions we’ll be seeing in patch 2.2:

The most anticipated addition of the patch is most likely the new primal fight against the giant sea serpent, Leviathan. You’ll be able to fight it in Hard Mode and Extreme Mode with a full party.

The patch will also be adding a more challenging fight against the Good King Moggle Mog XII with the Thornmarch Extreme Mode. We’ll also see Hard Mode versions of Brayflox’s Longstop and Halatali dungeons, among other additions.

Here’s a look at some questions that were answered in the Q&A session:

Q: Will the cost of housing continue to go down?

A: Yes! The cost should be at its lowest value by the end of February. If it still seems to be too high at that point, we will consider lowering the value even further. As a side note, I previously mentioned being able to craft an airship inside of your house. You will be able to do this with any size so please don’t worry!

Q: What’s the difficulty level of the leviathan fight (extreme mode)? Also, what’s the required item level?

A: We will go over the required item level in the next Letter from the Producer LIVE, but you will be able to obtain very powerful weapons from the fight. As for the difficulty, it will be the hardest primal fight. On the other hand, the hard mode won’t be as difficult due to it being tied to the main storyline. You should be able to beat it after 2-3 attempts.

Q: Will there be 5 additional turns added through The Binding Coil of Bahamut: Invasion (name TBD)?

A: There will be 4 new turns added.

Q: Are there any plans to improve the current economy?

A: Instead of trying to make small adjustments to try to improve the economy, we plan for the economy to drastically change through the major patches.

For now, we do have plans to adjust the cost of housing so that players can spend money on housing. Also, the maximum item level will increase in patch 2.2. The patch will introduce tons of new high-level items, new recipes, and glamours (previously known as the vanity system). With these, we expect to see a huge impact on the economy so please stay tuned.

Sounds interesting. Taking a break from the game right now, but definitely will be back soon.

    • Brion Valkerion

Same here, Leviathan was who I was waiting for anyway. But if the fights are as hard as hardmode/extreme mode then I will probably only play a month. I eventually finished those fights but the difficulty jump is kinda ridiculous when you have to work as a team #blame others.

      • DemonShadowX

Lol true. I’m not at that point just yet (Only a lvl 30 Lancer/Dragoon), but for the most part I haven’t joined an Instance yet where the group I played with weren’t competent.

I see a lot of complaints about that sort of thing on tumblr myself, and maybe it’s the server I chose, but all my runs in dungeons and trails have been fine.
I did get blown up by a gas bomb yesterday, but that was my fault :3

        • High five. Welcome the the Dragoon family lol

  • I’m currently still playing the game, and I’m happy that the game is still doing so well. Really looking forward to these future updates. Leviathan and all the other things coming to game look and sound fun =^_^=

  • harmonyworld

    So excited!
    Ready for my vanity slots!

    • Micrll

Just to clarify, vanity slots in the form of having the visible armor that differs from what is actually counting for stats?

      • harmonyworld

        I would assume so! :)

      • Crevox

Yes. It is purely for cosmetic purposes.

    • EtherealEarth

      Bikinis, people wearing bikinis everywhere.

I think people will be disappointed when they reveal the restrictions on it. I think SE might be a tad strict (and disallow things like this) but who knows.

Personally, I wouldn’t like things like the swimsuits being allowed. It’s kind of silly and a lot of people will just use that instead of actual armor or being creative/cool.

But, then again… PSO2 is pretty much exactly that. People in swimsuits everywhere.

        • EtherealEarth

One thing’s for sure is they won’t allow cross-class dress. It will be very confusing to see a caster dressing as a tank, and so on.

          • Crevox

Yeah, I think that’s a given. They also already stated that none of it would work in PVP.

  • Ferrick

    Leviathan! :D
    *internal fangirl squeal*

    • TheExile285

fangirl scream? well that explains a lot. *writes down*

  • SuperSailorV

    Four more turns? AFTER T5?

  • Settsuo

Really waiting on the PS4 version at this point. having it on PS3 is perfect, but it’s time to play as it was intended. Might be the chance to also get the physical collectors edition since i passed on it last time.
