We already know that Mamoru Nagano, of Five Star Stories or Heavy Metal L-Gaim fame, is adding a little bit of his touch to the upcoming Phantasy Star Online 2.

Now we get a look at how it’ll be in-game with these screenshots which show off both the in-game and original illustration ideas when you pick up the special bundled deluxe set on March 20th.

The bundle will cost 4980 yen (US$50) and comes with several items alongside Nagano’s special gear.

  • That’s horrendously expensive for something like costume designs… That’s almost a brand new game! Hell, it IS a new game if we’re talking 3DS prices!

    • Brandon Hunt

Some people go batty for anything tangentially related to Phantasy Star. Not surprised at the price.Still pretty crazy.

    • DaiRaiOh

In America, yes. In Japan, it costs about twice that for a new game. Overall, it’s the right price for how much one gets

    • Ferrick

it comes with other benefits that’s somehow isn’t listed in the article
apart from the costumes, you get the following:
-Mamoru Nagano designed weapon 3 types + Mug evolve device 2 types set
      -Arks batch yellow x 4
      -Juke box & music disc
      -Premium set 30 days
      -FUN1000 earning ticket
      -“Useful” item set

      • tarbis

Does the Qubeley also comes with the package?

        • Ferrick

yes, “Mug evolve device” is the item that will evolve the pet you have to Qubeley

          • tarbis

Now I want this game more than ever. I want that Qubeley T_T

          • Ferrick

well, you can follow guides online to play the JP version

  • The Watcher

So skinny. I could snap their joints just by pinching them.

    • Tinye

      I’m ok with that

  • brostar

I haven’t bought anything in PSO 2 yet. As it’s too difficult to buy things outside of Japan. So I’ll wait for the western release to buy stuff.
Then again. Can we trust Sega to keep up to date with the Japanese stuff. They’re so behind right now.

    • Brandonmkii

I’ve probably spent more money on pso2 than I should have spent haha.

  • harmonyworld

I know the artist is considered great and all, but I don’t really like their art.
I mean, I loved the five star stories movie, but…

  • Gyro Zeppeli

    Nice Qubeley mag there.

    • Ferrick

iirc, it’s the guy who designed the original Qubeley

  • Byron Kerrison II

I like the twin blades the teal(turquoise? )-haired girl has.

  • WyattEpp

Ah, Nagano! Your spaghetti people are so iconic! Now, where are the CASTs…?

    • icecoffemix

This, this is where his design would really shine.

    • Give me KoG or Bang Doll and i will be a happy man

  • Callonia

Ok this is the last article i read on PSO2. Tired of reading about them when it continues to fail to come to usa.

    • Tinye

I feel your pain, I really do

  • Altin

That last picture is more interesting because of the hairstyle. Looks so much like Alis.

  • cyberkinghardy

Are we going back to the skinny era? Evangelion much?

    • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

They are indeed skinny but credit due where credit’s due: at least they didn’t give them absurd sized breasts~.

      • Kumiko Akimoto

I would have liked that however

    • Shippoyasha

To be fair, Five Star Stories predate Evangelion by a decade. This artstyle is pure 80s oldschool. I think it’s pretty nice.

      • cyberkinghardy

I’m a 90’s kid, that’s why I don’t know how to appreciate this absurd unproportional body designs..

  • revenent hell

I find it funny how people mention the skinny artwork here yet most females in games look exactly like the game depictions here. I suppose if their “artwork” makes the females look less anorexic its entirely ok for them to be stick thin in the game eh?

  • Kornelious

  • Tenabrus

    Meanwhile in the Western lands….

  • michel

If I use this cart with an european account, are the costumes/items obtainable?

    • ArmoredBoar

the item codes are redeemed ingame and have nothing to do with the PS store

  • DarkLight
