Defeat Enemies Using The Power Of Friendship And Song In Ar NoSurge

By Sato . February 6, 2014 . 4:31pm

Gust’s Ar noSurge is an upcoming RPG mash-up between the worlds of Ar tonelico and Ciel noSurge, taking place in the Surge Concerto universe. Song Magic will also be making a return, and the game’s official website gives us a look at some of its new combat features.

During battle, you’ll have a four meter bar on the bottom-right of your screen, which indicates the “Harmo Level”. Once the meter fills up, you’ll be able to activate a special mode called “Harmo Burst”.

While in Harmo Burst mode, it allows you to continuously pull off powerful attacks against your enemies, and if certain conditions are met, you’ll be able to pull off even stronger song magic. Additionally, if the heroine’s tension levels are high, it’ll increase the amount which your meter fills up.

As you advance through the story, you’ll gain the trust of your comrades, followed by the ability to use “Friend skills,” a support attack from your allies. The Friend Skills can do heavy damage to enemies and various other effects. You can only use a Friend Skill once per fight, so you might have to think twice before using them at times.

Ar noSurge is slated for release on March 6, 2014 for PlayStation 3.

Friendship and song, huh? Psst, *are we talking about ponies?*
I wonder how high that tension level can go..

    • KuroNathan

Careful, friendship and songs in that universe translates to death space cannons

      • neocatzon

Millions synch rate plus this song magic amplifier. That’s why AT2 gameplay was the best of three.

        • aquagon

And that’s the gameplay they’re using and improving for this game.

          • neocatzon

            Just perfect.

      • Kai2591

wow 100 IPDs….they got wayyy to tough for me to handle after a certain number..

wait a sec…I don’t think I’ve ever pulled off that ‘synchronity chain’ thing..(or have I…?) Wonder what else I missed.

        • aquagon

It’s as easy as having your two Reyvateils with a 20~30% of sync, using Harmonics attacks until your vanguards have their Lv. 3 skills available, and then using Psych attacks to make their wavelengths unite. Without the Synchronity Chain mechanic, you can never use the Dual Songs earned in the Infelsphere and Cosmospheres, and you also lose access to the most powerful song the game gives to you: Phantasmagoria.

          • Kai2591

wait…maybe I did pull it off…I kinda remember doing Phantasmagoria once…yes I think I did.
Its such a long time ago i I just can’t remember well haha.
I do remember that the explanations for the battle mechanics were pretty vague though.

          • aquagon

Yeah, because Gust dummied out the tutorial entries that explained the details on Synchronity and Song Magic evolution for unknown reasons. However, the rest of the battle mechanics weren’t really lacking in the explanations department.

        • KuroNathan

Its not a surprise you’ve missed out on synchonity chain. For some reason they took out the tutorial for it from both versions and make no mention whatsoever that you can pull it off. I only figured it out cause I was wondeirng why the two wave lengths were getting closer when I used triangle attacks and tada, duo attack!

          • Kai2591

Actually, after trying hard to remember, I think I may have done it at least once haha. I kinda remember seeing those two wavelengths merging into one, and pulling off phantasmagoria…and yeah, their tutorials were really vague too (to me at least).

    Just “Friends”?

    • Loli Summoner

  • Codex

Thought this was dot hack at first hah, looks interesting though

    • Judgephoenix

      yea same too ><

      • Ardus

  • The Ar No=Connection Vol.1 live broadcast last week had some good game play demonstration for battle, field, and “misogi”, the purification sub-game.

And every growed up screen shot I see of Sarly makes me happy.

  • Can i dream abouit english localisation?

    • Kornelious

We can always dream. But if we try hard enough, we can make our dreams come true!……………..I’ll go in the corner now :(

    • Considering that all the Ar Tonelico games received localizations, and Gust in general has continued to have the Atelier series localized following the KT acquisition, it really doesn’t seem too unreasonable to consider a localization as possible, if not likely.

The only real caveat will be questions around what may or may not be an integral part of the back-story from Ciel Nosurge, which will almost definitely not receive a localization.

It’s highly likely that Gust will have a Ciel Nosurge summarization as part of the Ar Nosurge game though, particularly since it does not look like they will finish the Ciel Nosurge story before Ar Nosurge’s release (Only just recently got Chapter 10 of 12).

  • I want this game. Also I couldn’t resist posting this lol
(I set it to start from a specific point)

  • Kornelious

Huh, pretty bold. The power of friendship is usually reserved for final bosses :p

    • aquagon

In the EXA_PICO universe (Ar tonelico and Surge Concerto), that and the feelings themselves are a scientifically quantifiable source of power for everything that happens in the world. Of course, this also includes the songs the characters can sing.

  • Alexander Aubert

    eat that friendzone

  • aquagon

Hmm, only detail to add here is that the Harmo Level has a direct impact on how fast the Burst Gauge charges, so if you use the Harmo Burst, you will lose the extra Burst acceleration once the Harmo Burst ends.
Basically, you would need to know very well when to use it if you don’t want to lose advantage against the enemies or use well the turn limit.

    Friendship is magic!
