Guilty Gear Xrd Sign Rocks In Japan’s Arcades On February 20

By Spencer . February 12, 2014 . 2:48am

Guilty Gear Xrd Sign is about to launch in Japan. Arc System Works announced February 20 as the arcade release date, a bit sooner than the planned spring release. In addition to fan favorites like Sol Badguy and May along with newcomer, Bedman. Bedman doesn’t talk, series creator Daisuke Ishiwatari explained, so in his victory animation you actually see what’s going on Bedman’s head.

Guilty Gear Xrd Sign is also in development for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. Console versions are scheduled to come out this year in Japan. No announcements have been made for the West, but we can’t imagine this being a Japan-only game.

Easily the best looking pseudo 2d fighting game I’ve seen. Please stop teasing us arc and release dizzy already!

  • DyLaN

Is that Sol trying to pull an ass-shot off? XD

    • Derek E Nay

      Dat ass…

  • anthony apduhan

I hope we get more characters announced in the console version…

    • Shippoyasha

Hoping they add at least 2 more for console version (meaning arcade version gets updated first). Knowing the developers, they will hopefully double or triple the character count through the next few years. Blazblue had a decently small cast and now its roster is pretty beefy.

      • xe7en

Just 2? I’ve read from daisuke himself that it’s not far-fetched to add all existing character from AC +r for the console release. I mean the console release is still far off but maybe… that’s just me hoping… >.<

        • Astrotrain

He didn’t say in the first console release. We have to wait for more sequels of the game to finally see the return of all the characters from GGXXAC, that’s how it works.

          • xe7en

I don’t think it’d take that many iterations honestly. They could release it via DLC since character are based on preexisting models. Since it will probably take about a year or less before the console release, we’d probably be teased with more character trailers. Buttttt all this we’re discussing are just speculations so we’ll have to wait and see.

        • Suzaku

If they follow the BlazBlue formula, we’ll probably see 2~4 new characters with each successive port and sequel.

So, Xrd console release will get a few new characters, and then Xrd 1.5 will get a few more, then Xrd 1.5 console will get a few more, and so on.

BlazBlue started out with only 10 playable characters and 2 unlockable boss characters. They’re now up to 26 playable characters and will probably top 32 by the time the series concludes.

Xrd already has a larger roster than BlazBlue started with (13 playable, 1 probably unlockable boss). It might take a few years, but Xrd should be rocking the full roster within a few iterations.

  • Can’t wait for the console version, with more characters, of course.

    I want mah Bridget. ♥

  • Luis Camargo

I want to rock the console version so hard when it comes out.

    AND PLEASE, where’s my Jam ? D=

    • Crimson_Cloud

Wasn’t she on one of the art scans? I was sure she would make it into the game. Hopefully she is in the console version.

I really hope the PS3 version is up to par. I don’t notice it, but from what I’ve heard the PS3 ports of Blazblue have always technically under-performed compared to the arcade originals, and that makes me worry. I want the PS3 port of Xrd to be as arcade-accurate as possible; I simply do not have the option of picking up a PS4 at this time. Hopefully the PS4 version is backwards-compatible with PS3 arcade sticks, though, since Sony’s mentioned that’s up to the developer. Although I’m gonna go out on a limb here and assume that any future revisions to Xrd are probably going to be 8th-gen only.

game is in Unreal Engine 3, the PS3 can handle it, PS4 version will be arcade perfect.

      • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Unreal 3 runs like crap on the PS3 lol

PS4’s a midgen PC so it should run fine on PS4

    • Suzaku

I haven’t played the PS3 ports of BlazBlue, but the arcade hardware (Taito Type X2) was basically just a medium-end gaming PC running Windows XP Embedded.

Xrd is running on Unreal Engine 3, which the PS3 fully supports, so there shouldn’t be any problems.

I always loved Ky but that ponytail is so a ”look” killer. Not a fact that he has that but rather how crappy the ponytail looks. :/

  • colorblindnightmare

Very close! Hopefully Joudal will get some footage up soon! Very excited.

  • Death Metal

The old japanese tradition of releasing fighting games in the arcades first is finally starting to upset me.

  • 愛憎

Wow, so soon! I suppose I should go to the arcade in a week. I’m ready to get my ass kicked!
