Metroid Fusion And These GBA Games Will Be On Wii U This April In Japan

Get ready to replay Golden Sun. Nintendo announced twelve games that will kick off the Game Boy Advance Virtual Console for Japan and Camelot’s RPG is on there. Most of the other games were released as part of the 3DS ambassador program.

Advance Wars 1+2 is another key game and yes you read that title right. Even though Advance Wars was a launch title in the West, Nintendo didn’t release it in Japan until 2004 when it was bundled with Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising. If Nintendo releases these in teh West they will probably be two separate games.

April 3

Advance Wars 1+2
F-Zero
Golden Sun
Kirby and the Amazing Mirror
Super Mario Advance 2: Super Mario World
Wario Ware, Inc. Mega Microgame$

April 30

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
Mario Tennis Advance
Metroid Fusion
Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland
The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap
Wario Land Advance

Mother 3 is on the GBA, just say’n.

  • Eefara

Why WiiU and not 3DS? : It’s great that Ninty’s taking advantage of their backlog, but a handheld title on a console seems odd…

    • idrawrobots

      How about both?

      • Chaos_Knight

        Only if there is Cross-Play.

      • Eefara

Both would be great; more power to the WiiU players, by all means.

      • k.b.a.

it’s to push the wii u sales… but this won’t do it. at this point the items for that are more console virtual console, smash bros. monster hunter and offline mmo’s such as xenochron and x.

if anything these need to work on both 3DS and Wii U. but I sure as heck don’t wait to play handheld titles on a home console when my 3ds is primed and ready for Metroid and Fire Emblem GBA titles.

always 2 steps forward and 3 steps back these guys. thankfully they keep stepping on piles of money… on a side note, can we start a petition for a 3DS F-Zero? not enough people are throwing up in the streets and besides that… it’s been ever so long.

        • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Because the emulation is better on the WiiU instead of the 3DS. And when they move to a new platform that’s backwards compatible with the wiiU, its better if they just move all the stuff over from there

          • k.b.a.

the emulation works well enough for me on my pc, but i didn’t do that for so long because i was waiting when this finally did happen it’d be on 3ds. but at this point i think i’ll pass and just build up one of those there physical collections. i’ve got a gamecube and a 1st gen DS fat. my gameboy player is probably somewhere and an SP/micro advance shouldn’t be too much. but to see them doing this instead of working on the obviously difficult 3DS on WiiU issue… no thanks

          • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Well Ill be dishing on it because the 2D GBA games are absolutely gorgeous, on any screen really.

          • http://queensblade.net/index.php/characters/cattleya gulabjamuns

But the funny thing is, some of these games are already playable on the 3DS, although only downloadable if you were part of the Ambassadors program (or maybe through Club Nintendo). I agree that these should be available on both 3DS and WiiU, but I just find it odd and surprising that they would make GBA games available for purchase by everyone on the WiiU before they allowed it on the 3DS (considering that they’re already playable through VC and just need to be made available for everyone).

I really didn’t expect it’d be taking this long for them to get all the Ambassadors program games available for everyone. I was expecting to have a few more GBA games added to my 3DS’s VC collection by now… but then again, considering how damn slowly Nintendo likes to add to their VC library (I don’t even think the 3DS got one at all this week, right?) I guess I shouldn’t be surprised if GBA games for the 3DS remain exclusive to Ambassadors forever. We’d be lucky to even get 20% of the library of games for any single console already on VC before the end of this gen, just like what happened on the Wii.

          • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Well if you look at the Wii’s Virtual console it is pretty overwhelming, although I say the selection should be bigger than it is

    • Eder García

Nintendo needs to boost those WiiU sales somehow

      • Kayriss Wins

I agree, but selling old games like these doesn’t seem to be the answer, Imean do I even need to mention the Wind Waker re-release? lol.

        • Tiredman

There is no single answer, it is entirely based on a building block mentality. Earthbound, redone Windwaker, gba games, plus whatever else they are doing. They are making the Wii U more valuable with each new thing like this they do.

As for the gba games themselves, I never had one, so I am actually looking forward to this as I always wanted to play the original Golden Sun and its sequel. So selling gba games is part of the answer as they piqued my interest, and anybody else who would love to play their gba games on a blown up game pad screen.

          • Kayriss Wins

Understandable, I just think these aren’t helping the Wii U’s sales as a whole, that doesn’t exactly mean I want them to stop though! I love these classic GBA games but I feel like games like Mario Kart 8 or Bayonetta 2 will be the real Wii U sellers.

          • Tiredman

Bayonetta was one of the top 5 reasons I bought a Wii U last Christmas. Bayonetta, Wonderful 101, X, Earthbound, and Breath of Fire 2. Zelda was a bonus that I bought entirely for the Ganon figure packaged with the collector’s edition. After recent Mario Kart 8 trailers though, i am actually getting hyped for it as it looks like a lot of fun.

I want Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword! :D

    • Blitzscreig .

All of my yes. Sacred Stones would be awesome too.

      • Ni ~Algidus~

we need all FE games in the virtual console. All of them.

        • k.b.a.

you mean a translation of blazing sword?!

          • Ni ~Algidus~

            isn’t blazing sword already translated?

          • Guest

Yes, it was the first one we got. (Starring Lyn, Eliwood and Hector)

          • Jibun Rest@rt

Sword of Seals is the one you’re thinking of.

        • Guest

We need Genealogy of the Holy War!

  • British_Otaku

Cool as first party GBA games are, I hope to see Namco Bandai, Capcom and SEGA release some of their games again, even a bunch of their licensed stuff was really strong.

  • Ni ~Algidus~

The more metroid we get the better

  • Go2hell66

    Megaman Battle Network!

  • DanijoEX ♬ the Cosmic Owl

Add Metroid Zero Mission and you got yourself a winner. Out of the two Metroid games on GBA, Zero Mission earns my love.

    • 하세요

I enjoyed Fusion more, but then again it wasn’t an enhanced port. I never did finish Zero Mission though.

  • NBXX

amazing now is the time to star saving for WII U, and time is time to put away all the Gameboy games and play them on the virtual console :D

  • http://queensblade.net/index.php/characters/cattleya gulabjamuns

Just to make it clearer for anyone who doesn’t know, “F-Zero” was the name of “F-Zero Maximum Velocity” in Japan. Personally my hand is itching for the other two GBA F-Zeros (even more especially because I already have Maximum Velocity on both my 3DS and the original GBA cart).

It’s crazy to realize that the GBA was actually blessed with THREE F-Zero games in its lifetime (while there’s other Nintendo platforms which can’t even get one), although we never got F-Zero Climax outside of Japan… :( that hurt me almost as much as not getting Mother 3 since it was supposed to be a better version of GP Legends, which is my most favorite F-Zero next to F-Zero GX. Hell, I still want the GP Legends anime on DVD (as well as the Kirby anime)… Nintendo, why don’t you want my money anymore??

  • Kavyn

I’m literally buying everything on April 3. Oh my God.

  • xzeldax3

Golden Sun is my favorite RPG of all time! Damn you Sakuraba for making such amazing music xD

  • Raltrios

I own physical copies of four of those. Feels pretty good.

  • Quizler

I hope the colors don’t look totally washed out like they do on the 3DS ambassador GBA games

  • Vash bane

i still physically til this day still own both GBA golden suns (for some reason I will not part with them lol and Metroid fusion)

  • Fox

In Japan–but where else? EU and NA are still waiting for big, hugly-popular games that hit the VC in Japan half a year ago, like Final Fantasy 6.

And knowing Nintendo, they probably won’t bother doing anything to entice third-parties, which means we probably won’t see any, or at least very much, of the GBA’s third party library.

  • Lucas

MOTHER 1+2,MOTHER 3(I try to change lots of abusive sprites using MOTHER 3 Sprite Editor, but it’s very time consuming very tough and rough job to do so).Anyway Starmen.net,Mother 4 chat will never think I’m looser and troll.
