If You’re Looking Forward To Demon Gaze, Check Out Stanger Of The Village Of The Sword

By Spencer . February 14, 2014 . 1:30am

Experience has a new dungeon RPG in development. The Stranger of the Village of the Sword: Black Palace is slated for release on Xbox 360 on June 5 and PC on August 22. Later this year the game will be released for PlayStation Vita as The Stranger of the Village of the Sword: White Palace with PS Vita TV support, touch screen controls, and a ranking feature.

As usual, Experience created excellent artwork for the game. Here are some of the character portraits for party members…

  • I like the Art Style, This could be a decent game

  • Aesma

Hmm…. I’m feeling a bit Shin Megami Tensei vibe here.
It should be an interesting game though. Maybe it’ll get localized?

  • ogopogo

Well the game seems to share the same world view as Entaku no Seito and Demon Gaze seeing as there are those dog-eared Migmies and those taller-than-usual Dwarves. Although I’ve gotta admit that I like Etrian Odyssey games better due to them having a slightly more developed class system. Not to mention that the whole F.O.E. mechanic that made that series much more thrilling to play. What’d I really like to see though, is a DRPG more in vein of the M&M games where you can actually see the monster on the screen and not random encounter based. This game does look interesting nonetheless though.

  • Keine

Art style is a lot like Dragon’s Crown

    • Adam Zaorski

      Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth says hi.

      • Zetayuri

        • Adam Zaorski

  • Death Saved

You misspelled stranger in the title.

Game looks beautiful its a pity i have always had a hard time getting into this kind of game.

  • Adam Zaorski

If it’s a dunger crawler like rpg and has art like this than I will buy it, I will play it, and I will be happy.

  • Warboss Aohd

that is some lovely artwork right there.

  • Arcana Drill

    So beautiful… :O

  • Zetayuri

    This better get localized.

  • DyLaN

While I’m not too fond of the type of art style used here, I have to say its drawn pretty well. And judging by the screenshot and monster art, I guess its post-apocalyptic?

Though I do wonder why there is school uniform in a post-apocalyptic world that regressed to using swords. Some trends just never die?

    • Kai2591

Haha I was wondering about the sailorfuku too..

    • ogopogo

Well, apparently, judging from the trailer, an airplane crashed into another dimension/world. (kinda) So I’m guessing the main character and that girl in the screenshot are from our world originally, hence the school uniform+armor outfit.

  • fairysun

Dang, why is it first person view in battle? I want to be able to see my character whole body. Anyway, the art-style is gorgeous.

    • Learii

I know me too I don’t like first person view battle really much =(

  • Kai2591

    dat art.

now these are some awesome artwork.

  • Party member 24/7! So cute!

The artwork is amazing! Experience have some really beautiful games. Will support Demon Gaze. The west needs more Japanese titles.

  • dragoon_slayer12

I like that old school rpg genres are coming back, but I’ve never been a fan of dungeon crawlers, I like seeing my character on screen (don’t care much about seeing them in battle). I wish they would add a 3rd person mode with free movement…. Game looks beautiful though.

Speaking of which, no chance in hell Beyond the Labyrinth is coming huh?

  • Manny Being Manny

I’m looking forward to Demon Gaze because of the waifus so a more realistic art style like this does nothing for me

  • pekikuubik

You know what to do, XSEED. Perfect opportunity to put something on both Steam and Vita.
Also perfect opportunity to ride on the coattails of Legend of Grimrock and Might & Magic X.

    • TheExile285

I think NISA would probably the ones to localize this.

      • pekikuubik

I wonder about that. Depends on if NISA has any contact with Experience or not, since Demon Gaze they would’ve had to license from Kadokawa Games.
Looks like Experience is self-publishing this one (which is why it even has a PC version), so all bets are off on who gets to localise it.

      • Manny Being Manny

When was the last time NISA localized something that wasn’t anime looking though?

    • Lucky Dan

Who were the ones that translated the Wizardry series? They should be the ones to get on this.

  • TheExile285

Damn this looks good. Dat art. =o

    • Ric Vazquez

My thoughts exactly when I first saw it, could be better than Demon Gaze.

  • SerChief

  • Slayven19

The only thing I dislike about the game is the FP view. Why do games use this when hardly none likes it? Love the art however and will play if localized.

    • DyLaN

Because there a market in Japan and it found successes out of Japan in the likes of Etrian Odyssey?

    • Lalum

      I love it.

    • pekikuubik

You heard it here first, folks. No-one likes Call of Duty.

    • Saifer Emmerich

I’d say that FP has it’s own feel. It’s an homage to old style gameplay and it shifts focus to your adversaries which is a refreshing take. Not everything that’s different is unattractive. Games need the will to explore unbeaten paths, this could lead to an experience you might enjoy. I’d wanna play it too if it’s localised and because it actually looks playable and not cause I need more reasons to justify my Vita.

  • tubers

That blonde elf is so attractive! xD

The Title of the Game of the Developer

  • DarkLight

    Pretty Awesome art.Bring it over.

  • Eric Harris

    Woah, beautiful in game art.

  • chroma816

Holy shit, this art is nice.
