There’s (Another) All-Gals Fighting Game Based On The Three Kingdoms

By Eugene . February 17, 2014 . 4:33pm

Shin Koihime Musou: Romance of the Three Kingdoms Adaptation With an Abundance of Girls is, as the name suggests, a harem game 2D fighting game basing the characters from Romance of the Three Kingdoms transmogrified into women.

There’s now what appears to be a follow-up game, titled Koihime: Embu, being published by Sega, for arcades. A teaser video for the game can be viewed above and looks like a return to 2D fighting, including what appears to be a tag-system. The main site also contains character bios for the lady-fied versions of famous characters such as Guan Yu and Lu Bu.

Koihime: Embu is scheduled for a release some time in 2014.

  • Cool.

This reminds me that the Shin Koihime Musou series made its first 2D fighting debut in Twinkle Queen on the Wii.

…This new game looks a lot more refined, though.

    • KnifeAndFork

      That game was awful

  • Linhua

… I came in here and was like:

*clicking the video* “… heyyy… = … Isn’t this old new- HOLY FLUCK. This is new.”

… some of those new girls are looking like my kinda fighters… O_O;; …

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

    Dat music. So good

  • I loved the anime. Need a new season with new girls!

    • transferstudentx

played the game loved it never watched the anime though i hope its half as good as the game

      • the anime completely leave out the main guy as if he never existed in the plot. I leave it to you how to interpret that.

        • Shippoyasha

          Lesbians for all!

  • KazukiNanbu

so we meet again koihime muso…..(i’m still waiting for a english version of shin koihime muso)

  • I still need to get around to buying the eroge….but first comes Valkyrie Svia.

  • Vash bane

eh? an arcade one and a console one? interesting

  • KnifeAndFork

Only in Japan would they take historical military and political male figures and turn them into sexually suggestive Anime Loli Moeblobs

I mean could you imagine the West doing this with George Wasington, Abraham Lincoln, or Napoleon, Stalin or even Hitler? I mean the whole thing just seems ridiculously pandering and too strange

    • Joseph A. Garcia

Now I WANT to see an anime moeblob version of George Washington, Lincoln and Stalin.

    • D H

I wouldn’t say only in Japan, but you are a bit right. Rather, in America, we’d rather turn them into something talking about bathroom humor or other random Adult Swim “comedy” stuff (don’t get me wrong, some of the [as] stuff is fine, but most of it is… lowest common denominator at best).

It’s a cultural difference, that’s all. In Japan, they aren’t afraid to say “hey, we like the feminine form in all kinds of realistic and unrealistic artwork,” whereas if you say you find a drawing in America sexy and it’s not a “hey, let’s see if we can make this as absolutely realistic as possible except with DDD sizes,” then you’re crazy in most places. Or rather, I guess I should say it’s somewhat the same in Japan, but at least there is a building group of individuals that aren’t afraid to stand up for what they like, whereas in America, as an American, it really seems like we’d rather just bitch about it on the ‘net and then conform to everybody else’s standards in real-life, for the most part.

      • D H

Oh, and gory. If it’s American made, it almost has to be gory these days. Of course, a little bit of sex appeal is horrible and degrades all women (of course, males can appear in movies/TV/whatever in as little dress as they like and it’s not degrading to men for some reason?), but blood and guts is A-OK!

      • kaotron

IMO, turning historical figures into DDD moeblobs is more about pandering to otaku fetishes than the actual culture.

for example, I really like comedy animes(like gintama) but I really get tired of the overused straight man gag humor which is really popular in their culture known as manzai. For them manzai is the equivalence of our family guy toilet humor.

        • Shippoyasha

I don’t know about that. While they can be plenty sexual, even in the dating sims themselves, it’s more about the comedy really. Not to mention the girls always exert the personality quirks the historical figures have had.

Even stuff like Strike Witches was the same deal. It IS about the culture as much as it can be pandering. Even at that, I don’t see how pandering alone is a bad thing if they can make it properly entertaining as a whole.

      • KnifeAndFork

I see this just as disrespectful to those historical figures though. Abraham Lincoln Vampire Slayer may have been dumb as hell as a premise but at least he wasn’t morphed into a 12 year old looking girl

Besides this doesn’t really reflect Japanese culture ; it reflects more on the niche creepy Otaku culture which most Japanese just look down upon and lol

    • Rocsas

Hitler already has one… Retia Adolf from Daiteikoku

    • Zenthos

Only in Japan where they have Toriko (the character in your thumbnail) where a character can eat over thousands of meals and never get full. That seems pretty seems ridiculously pandering and too strange to me, I mean could you imagine the west doing that? ***********
See what I did there? I can make anything I don’t like into a trashing post too. Point is- Something that doesn’t catter to your own godamn style sense doesnt make it “weird” or “strange”, but rather a different genre for people who like it.

      • kaotron

I like anime as much as the next guy on this site but you gotta admit, the premises to a lot of animes can be pretty bizarre even when it’s in context but the weirdness is what I like about it sometimes.

koihime isnt the only one, just look at hetalia, turning the countries during ww2 into androgynous teenagers.

        • KnifeAndFork

Or Kancolle; turning Japanese battleships into Loli strippers

          • kaotron

yeah, it’s really weird(and for some reason many of the fans dont like admitting it)..

      • KnifeAndFork

Toriko is an original character and everyone likes food. You need food to survive

    • Rol

Of course the West wouldn’t make Washington into a moeblob….It isn’t EDGY enough but apparently King Washington the tyrant is.. I’ll leave it to everyone to decide which is better…

    • Atmey

I guess it is still too soon, give it few centuries like the three kingdoms.

    • buddyluv324

With all the bitching and moaning over not having enough female characters in gaming we hear about, you’d think there be some sort of appreciation for games like Koihime. But for some reason its never good enough. For those who dont know, News Flash: Women have curves and breast! Get over it or move on.

And I would honestly would be interested to see a female imagining of western historic figures like Lincoln. If he can go around hunting vampires why not the 16th President of the United States be a female?

      • KnifeAndFork

How bout normal and original female characters like Jodie Holmes, Ellie, Chloe and Elena, Madison Paige, Emily Wyatt, Lara Croft, Claire Redfield, Jill Valentine, Ayame from Tenchu etc

        • Alexander Marquis Starkey

How about more women who don’t have a bunch of badass all over their characters and have some actual meat to their characters?

          • KnifeAndFork

This is a musou fighting game based on warring factions of the Three Kingdoms. Are you trying to imply there’s not one iota of attempt at baddassery here?

        • buddyluv324

So you’re saying fictional female characters have to conform to a specific politically correct standards in their visual designs? I guess the whole concept of video games has gone past your head.

          • KnifeAndFork

  • Ten

The fighting game wasn’t even good and with little to no story. I would have prefer that they upgrade shin koihime musou and the fandisc to their latest VN engine with widescreen support plus a few extra scene. Now that Sengoku Koihime bomb I hope they do a bit more thinking.

    • Alexander Marquis Starkey

      Sengoku Koihime what?

  • Ni ~Algidus~

I’m already sceptical about the gameplay mechanics of both games. will likely wait and see how the game works in this case

  • Just get the one coming out on Ps3 this week in Japan. It’s a cool game. If this is an updated version to arcades, I certainly hope it’ll be in the ps3 version.

  • WyattEpp

I keep playing the video again to listen to the music. I hope that’s representative of the whole game.

  • Juan Andrés Valencia

AFAIK Ikki Tousen is the other Romance Of The Three Kingdoms fighting franchise. And that one is barely a fighting show since it’s more interested on the panties of the protagonists rather than the actual conflict.

  • Crevox

Shin Koihime Musou is getting a

  • Slayven19

So sega is associated with 3 female fighting games, this the dengeki game and the shining blade game?

    • Slayven19

That said I watched the anime of this and they seem to have added 2 characters I really liked from the anime to this game.

  • MitsukiIX

Will they finally add Ryuubi now?

  • megaten666

Lots of 2D fighters nowadays. As old McDonald said once:
    I lovin’ it!

    Added to the list.

  • Alexander Marquis Starkey

Gakushin must be popular in Japan, because the fact that she got in before Chouryou is a travesty…not really, still sucks though.

EDIT: And what about new strategist characters? No sign of Rikuson, Kaku.

  • Hector Velar

with Capcom out of the picture making mobile card games, everyone lets make fighting games! I will say that Arc System Works has the lead on becoming the next Capcom as far as fighters go, but any addition is welcome (speciallyvif they keep looking this good). I guess there was no reason to miss Capcom after all with Shinji Mikami making horror games on his own as well as Keiji Inafune continuing the Megaman series we can all say R.I.P Capcom was good knowing you.

  • Chardo

can someone tell me why no one is discussing the fact that koihime fighter came out for ps3 like a day ago, yet we get announced an expansion for arcade with 3 new characters the next day? while I’m really glad that the series is still alive and getting nice sequels, Its also kinda annoying for the people who recently got the ps3 version to just get announced ONE DAY later that its getting expanded to arcades with 3 new characters, specially for importers who have no chance to play it on arcades, all I can hope for is that these new characters become dlc for the ps3 version some time soon.

  • Barrit

Still patiently waiting for Shin Koihime Musuo that’s more like Dynasty Warriors. That’d be awesome
