Romancing SaGa 3, The JRPG With A Playable Snowman, Is Coming To Wii U

By Spencer . February 19, 2014 . 12:31am

imageSquare Enix is keen on re-releasing all of the Romancing Saga games for Wii U Virtual Console. Romancing SaGa 3 is scheduled for February 26 and it’s bringing the Death Eclipse to Nintendo’s new console.

Romancing SaGa 3 had a similar battle system to SaGa Frontier where characters learned new techniques mid-battle when a light bulb above them. Players also travel the world recruiting characters and Romancing SaGa 3 has unique characters like a living snowman. Dr. Mario and Super Star Soldier are also slated for Virtual Console next Wednesday.

Are you saying it’s being localised or it’s on the Japanese system?

    • Haganeren

      Japanese system.

Too bad because the game is wonderful in his fan transation gloria !

      • theBridgeburner

Which is a damn shame… I’ve been waiting nearly 20 years to play Romancing SaGa 3…

        • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

but you can! the fan translation’s been out for 10 years!

  • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

If they officially licensed the fan-translation, that’d make a lot of people happy. But this is S-E.

    • Barrylocke89

You say that as if officially licensing fanslations is the rule and not the exception.

      • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

Hmm. Just stating that S-E and XSEED have vastly different practices.

        • Haganeren

XSEED have some people which had translated which was in the fan
translation sphere before. (Like Tom) so i think it’s more easy to “update” the fan translation.

I’m not that sure Gideon Zhi would be fine with this… (I don’t really know to be honest)

  • NintendoPSXTheSecond

The title is a tad misleading what with it being Japan but I suppose it’s fine.

Y’know, a lot of these kids of topics are deceptive. They really should be nothing but an add on to important articles, because quite frankly, the West’s NEVER going to get this. In the end, who cares.

That also brings out another question. After all these years, would it HURT Square to finally have their Western branches translate these and release them, for the FIRST TIME, via VC? Would it take so much resources to finally get some of these games released(not physically pressed, which would cost even MORE money)? And not just Square. The problem I have with PSN is they release Japanese games, some even text heavy, but they don’t translate it. What’s the point of playing a text heavy game if you can’t understand it? It kinda makes you wonder, if very low key, indie-type fellows can actually fully translate the roms(for free and via pressing them into carts and selling them), how much harder would it be for the big studios to do the same? Y’know, it’s been a damn long time, just do it! Pull a FFV, FINALLY translate it and release it. Do that with the Romancing SaGa games, Live A Live, Treasure of the Rudras and Treasure Hunter G. Even non-Square, there are a lot of games I’d love to see that will never be released in the West “just because”. Urgh.

    • Carl

Sir, you took the words out of my mouth. *claps*

    • Gojira Twit

Too bad that’s just not how VC works. These are the original ROMs and they’re pretty much set in stone. Unless some hidden part of Square translated these to completion and just never released them, you’re not going to see randomly translated VC releases, ever. It’s re-releases or nothing.

There actually were a couple of people that wanted to officially release their Langrisser I & II PS1 translations on the PSN, but even though it’s a dead IP, the rightsholder STILL wanted a ton of money for it on top of the fee you have to pay Sony to have it in the store.
I don’t know how much money it was in total, but the point is there are awful hurdles to do something so benevolent due to greedy bastards… as always. I also realize you weren’t just talking about some fans, but I was just saying how it’s a shame the companies don’t care.

  • Looks like final fantasy vi. Reason enough for me to try this.

  • Yan Zhao

I still cant beat this game on the fan-translation. I literally cant find a new quest or a way to advance the story last time I touched this, which was like 7 years ago :

    • Haganeren

Yeah, there is some time like that in the game.
But there is always a way… Always ! And the final is one of the more epic thing i have seen in a RPG !

      • Yan Zhao

I even tried to follow the walkthrough on Gamefaqs and that didnt help either lol.

Found some elephant city in the far south with some dungeon that I cant even proceed through, and thats the last major thing I remember about the game before I gave up.

        • Haganeren

If it’s some kind of oriental temple, maybe you missed a door or something. I didn’t remember seeing something which prevent the progression. (And the final is quite awesome in my memory)

But i can be wrong, it was a long time ago for me too !
