Persona Q: Shadow Of The Labyrinth Gets A Special Package With Poster And More

By Eugene . February 21, 2014 . 5:00pm

Is it a surprise that there’s a special edition of Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth ready for pre-order already? Probably not. Ebten have a special Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth Famitsu DX Pack up for pre-order at their store. The asking price? A cool 10,590 yen (US$106).

It looks like this will be more than worth the money to pick up, though, if you’re heavily interested in the game. Not only does it come with the Nintendo 3DS title, it’ll also have a special B5(!) size tapestry drawn by the Persona Q anime staff, an A3 size clear poster so secret no one will know what it is until the sale date, five visual clear files, a Persona Q mug that they’re teasing is in the “motif style of the Velvet Room,” and a graphig version of Rei.

Graphigs, if you’re just wondering, are those foldable papercrafts that turn into a boxy 3D model. And if you’re wondering where the staring is, keep looking, as not a lick of imagery is out yet. Really.

Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth comes out on June 6 for Nintendo 3DS. You can order this special exclusive version here.

You had my wallet at Persona Q already.

  • Death Metal

Honest question here: does anyone else feel Persona is the “next” (or maybe “is next to”) Final Fantasy in terms of popularity? Or is Siliconera the only website that cares so much about it?

    • DAT Bird From DAT Cage

No way, not even close to Final Fantasy sales numbers and popularity. FF is on a league of its own. Not to put Persona’s significance down or anything. Maybe it’ll get there? One day.

      • Kaetsu

That’s what he meant. It’s not there yet but it will get there hence the “next” Final Fantasy and not the “new” FF.

        • Zer0faith

At the rate Final Fantasy is going that day may not be far from now.

          • http://blackstar2661.deviantart.com/ SilverSpades

If so, it should be good incentive for SE to up their game.

Though, I’m hopeful XV will be able to do that.

Competition brings out the best in us, and production values can only get you so far.

          • Ric Vazquez

            So true

      • Shane Guidaboni

Yet, Japan wants Persona 5 more than any other game right now (above FFXV). It was number 1 on their most wanted list. The sales might not match up, but it’s clearly very popular.

      • Eder García

        don’t forget Dragon Quest

    • Herok♞

yes in a way, everyone seems to care about it after P4G even on mainstream sites.

    • Shippoyasha

It is a huge name for enthusiasts but it’d me a miracle for a Persona game to get a million sales. It is still fairly behind the true mainstream titans of Japan like Monster Hunter, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Tales and even God Eater.

It’d be interesting to see how many new fans Persona has garnered over two whole anime shows, Persona 3 movie series and Persona 1-4 all getting handheld updates. It’s been a while since P4′s original release. Even though P4G did sell very well, I hope P5 can shoot for that million.

    • Tom_Phoenix

Not even remotely, although given how the FF series is declining, Persona might match its popularity once FF has dropped to its level. =P

But seriously, no. While the Persona series has a strongly devoted fanbase, it is nevertheless a small one. Even its popularity over the core SMT series tends to be very much exaggerated. Persona titles do tend to sell better, but not to an overwhelming or even significant degree.

    • Jero

It’s definetly the most well known franchise of Atlus but if you mention it to a casual player he probably won’t know what you’re talking about. But who doesn’t know Final Fantasy.

If you’re a reader of this website it’s probably because you’re already involved with the japanese culture/games. Also Persona fans are… uhm… really pasionate about the saga.

    • Lalum

      Nope.

    • Scissors

Like everyone else mentioned no cause FF is ultra mega popular. Though this raises the question of how popular is Persona now. I wouldn’t really say it’s niche anymore, even major sites like IGN talk enthusiastically about Persona, but it’s not really mainstream outside of Japan. Guess it’s in the middle.

    • Warboss Aohd

Persona is decently well known in comparison to non Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest JRPGs.

Both Well Known and Well liked.

    • natchu96

Even with the tight budget and getting bounced between companies left and right I’ve always felt that, as niche as their games are, Atlus always keeps up the quality. Even when the quality goes down a bit from previous entries it’s generally really solid.

. . . okay, the dancing game is odd, but I mean their RPGs.

Meanwhile we have haters popping up for modern FFs due to how different everything has become (whether it’s even an improvement is questionable) and we’re pretty much still buying FF games because they are FF games at this point. Then we have XIII’s linearity issues and its sequels’ case of shoving Lightning up your face.

    • Kumiko Akimoto

Yes a few articles about the developers spawn over a few months and an upcoming game of theirs is really caring a lot about it

      • Death Metal

There are instances where you can see 3-4 Persona articles on the same DAY here in Siliconera. Also, see what Shane Guidaboni posted here in the comments. I think it’s a reasonable question considering the current Japanese market.

        • Kumiko Akimoto

You mean back when the movie was being announced or the persona 4 anime? Because those releases weren’t even close

    • Rake

Not really. It’s just that Persona is more of a hit nowdays.

    • Sergio Briceño

Persona is a niche series. It’s not for everyone, but everyone it works for loves it.

FF is a mainstream series. It’s easy to get into and in order to hate it the only thing you need to do is play any game past the tenth (and I’m counting spinoffs here).

So in summary, not as popular, not even close to the top 3 most popular, but rapidly catching up thanks to the poor performance of the very “best” JRPGs.

    • LaserVision

Nope not even close. I always hate it when a vocal minority on the internet acts like they speak for everyone. In terms of quality however, I think Persona has FF beat.

Edit: While FF is an international phenomenon, a lot gamers around the world dont even have access to the Persona series.

      • Death Metal

Not sure if that’s what you meant, but I don’t intent to speak for everyone. I am asking if anybody else feels like the Persona series is likely to reach the same level of popularity one day, considering how Japan currently loves it, and it’s a no-brainer that its popularity is hiking in the West as well.

    • Nagi

im a fan but i don’t think so :X since the FF series have been popular even before persona became wildly popular that is p3 and p4 gen

    • Snorlaxation

This is a pretty hard question to answer.

I personally only got involved in FF after FFX, and from there,
played VI, a little of VII, most of VIII, IX, X, X-2, and XII.

I’ve played and loved every Persona game 1-4 plus the remakes and Arena.

Everyone feels very differently about how the FF series is currently doing, from “My God let it R.I.P. already”, to “Let XIII R.I.P. already” to “DVoted Fan4Life”.

To me the Persona series has always felt (on the whole) synonymous with the FF series, with P3 feeling like the answer to FF’s VII (until all the remake/spinoff/anime/live-play for P4 came out), since it brought the Persona series back into the spotlight after years of nothing post P2. (Plus shooting yourself in the head was a big gimmick). P4 is probably the most popular/well known overall since it’s received the most hype and the most marketing and is on so many mediums.

Still though, FF has been going a lot longer, and has a lot more marketing and history and whatnot behind it.

Pokemon is probably closer to FF than Persona is in terms of series longevity/popularity, but i do feel the Persona series has come a long way, and depending on how 5 plays out, whether we see any effort to fully combine the P1-P2 and P3-P4 storylines, will definitely affect it.

  • Earthjolly

I will buy myself and the next person one. Cause I am super stoked

    • [S]unjay

      Please buy for me.

  • konsama

God if this set gets localized too no matter how but will get my hands on it. >_<

  • Kazekage Gaara

Is it weird to jizz over this :3

    • Abysswalker90

      ….yes, very.

      • Kazekage Gaara

        Great :)

  • Strain42

I confess that I would love a Velvet Room mug, but that’s about the only thing in this set that really appeals to me (aside from the actual game, obviously) with any luck that mug might be something we could get stateside.

  • Shane Guidaboni

    I want the mug!

  • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

    That font. Persona Doo.

  • godisdead

What? I would gladly shell out $106 for a Collectors Edition that sounds this awesome! Though I’m 100% positive that when this game inevitably hits stateside we’re going to get a half-assed one instead… -_-

  • CleruTesh

Anyone know is there a good site to go import this to US?

    • Manzoku

      Play-asia.com is usually good.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

I really hope the Collectors Edition comes state side >_<
