New [email protected] Game Is All Dudes

By Spencer . February 24, 2014 . 12:17am

Bandai Namco’s [email protected] series has players manage a group of idols, so far only female idols. Enter [email protected]: Side M, which turns the table with male idols. These guys come from all walks of life – doctors, lawyers, JSDF, and freeters. For whatever reason all of them want to become idols. That’s where you, a producer at 315 Productions, comes in.

Part of your day is spent scouting new idols and the other is and the other part is training them to become superstars. That includes changing their costumes.

As you may have guessed, [email protected]: Side M is a free to play game with a card system. Mobage, the company that published Final Fantasy Brigade, will release the game in Japan.

    but it’s a crappy cell phone game~
I want full 3d with costumes instead of stills~
I mean, it’s nice art, and the designs are nice, but…
It feels like there’s not much to it

    • DyLaN

Well, I see this as testing the water sort of thing. Maybe it will get one if Side M gets popular?

      • s07195

At least give Cinderella Girls one first… T_T
*cries bitter tears over never being able to get any Takagaki Kaede SR cards*

    • antochi

This is just a sign of good things to come (hopefully). Just look at all the merch/CDs/manga that came from JUST cinderella girls. I can only hope things do as well for these guys!

    • Kumiko Akimoto

“I haven’t played it but I know it’ll be crappy because I’m psychic.”

      • harmonyworld

        it’s a phone game, c’mon dude~

        • Kumiko Akimoto

Yeah my first comment should be an appropriate response to what you just said.

Don’t make assumptions about something without playing it. Hipster

          • harmonyworld

Hey, you don’t know, I just might be psychic~
            Don’t make assumptions either :3

          • Kumiko Akimoto

Sorry but I’m a man of science

  • lesangpro .

let me hear your scream , fan girls !

    • Duc PC-QB

      kyaaaaaaaaaa ikemen kitaaaa

      • lesangpro .

bitch , back off , they all mine , ALL MINE YOU HEAR ME !!!

  • malek86

I’m not sure I would trust a doctor who’s also an idol.

    • ZengarZombolt

you don’t trust doctor dre ??!!

    • neocatzon

How about idol + lawyer combo like Gavin?

  • $51888021

It only figures that’s where they’d go next. I mean, if you look at the roster of female idols in the [email protected] universe right now… let’s just say they’ve got that sh** covered. Time to give the ladies a lil’ somethin’ somethin’ too~!

    • Paulette

Too bad we’ll never get it in english because of licensing intricacies…

      • SupaPhly

hmm, since this is a mobile game. maybe it would be easier for them… just saiyan

        • Paulette

it’s often seiyus (or rather people representing them) that ask too much money upfront… when it’s not the company recording the music… or both…

    • and meeeeee…

  • JustThisOne

I wonder if this will gain momentum and eventually lead to a full game? I feel like this will really take off.

  • Chip

I sense a disturbance in the force. As if a great many yaoi fangirls all suddenly screamed out as one.

    • Ereek

Hey now, you don’t necessarily need to be a yaoi fangirl to appreciate a nice bishi.

      • Warren

I can honestly say im cool with it and im a guy. Still love women but its just a game.

    • mockturtle

      No, that was just me.

  • natchu96

    So much bishie . . .

    *bleeding eyes*

  • wererat42

I seem to remember the Jupiter group in [email protected] was met with a negative reaction.
But then again they were in a game that wasn’t exactly marketing to their audience.

    • malek86

The thing with Jupiter was that they were in a game squarely aimed at hardcore iMas fans, for a console squarely aimed at niche hardcore players in Japan.

This is gonna be a Mobage game, there is no shortage of either guys or girls on the platform. I wouldn’t even be surprised if it turned out that more girls play them.

  • shuyai

imagine after this game get famous and Bandai makes a crossover where they pair up the male and female idols. XD it will be fun to watch te reaction

    • Time Sage

No. Only yaoi allowed with this. The fan girls (And boys) will be upset otherwise.

      • ZnTxn

        *Raises yaoi banner*

      • ninjamitsuki

Except this is an otome game…

        • Time Sage

          Like that’s stopped anyone before.

  • wyrdwad

Hmmm… what is 315 supposed to be, I wonder? In the original Idolmaster, the production studio is 765, which is pronounced na-mu-ko (Namco), so I assume 315 is also a similar numeric pun. “Sa-i-ko” (“the best”), maybe? Be a little nonstandard, but at least it makes sense…

    • Muammar Gibran N

It can be also said as “Saigo” which means “The Last” lol

    • Wappuli

Yes, that’s how it’s meant to be pronounced.

  • Shippoyasha

It’s not exactly true that Idolmaster was all girls though.

The antagonist group Jupiter was a male trio and they were constant rivals in Idolmaster 2. One of the ‘girls’ in Idolmaster Cinderella Girls trio is a crossdressing biological male.

    • Owa

I’m pretty sure you meant Ryo Akizuki who is from the Dearly Stars trio at 876pro (and Ritsuko’s male cousin).

    • I was trying to remember what those three guys were from~.

  • David García Abril

    Well, that took long enough…

Doctors and lawyers? Does that mean that in this game the idols will be…

    (Dramatic music)

    (Dramatic “TA, TAA, TAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!”)

  • William Hsia

    …for once…im glad its a mobile game.

  • Lumi

Mobage again. Their Japanese account system make it sooo difficult for non Japanese to play their games

    • Cazar

I’m surprised it’s not on GREE, this looks almost exactly like Million Live.

In other news there’s a new trailer for One For All.

      • M’iau M’iaut

Haruka looks awful angry for a kawaii desu uguu idol singer there.

  • antochi

    Please make a full game pleaseee. ;_;
Quick anyone who plays cinderella girls know how to proxy them my money? I’m giving them all of it ffff

  • Renaldi Saputra

    prepare for more hasbando

  • ZnTxn

I hope this works, that would mean the possibility of a console/portable version.

  • Pinkemon

Police guy(Tsubasa) kinda reminds me of Makoto from Free! Iwatobi swim club. He seems charming already~!

  • Alexandra Cordes

Surely there must be at least one guy I would be interested in… Oh who am I kidding, that’s asking for the impossible BUT COLOR ME INTRIGUED.

  • 永次

I want an “Otoko no ko [email protected]”, best game ever.

  • So, um… which one of them is the reverse trap?

  • Luke Blackwood

Trap idol spotted, I’m sold <3

  • Just Tim

This actually reminded me of the time when 2ch RAGED about dudes with their idols!

  • LDM

Why does it have to be a cellphone card game? I want to play hot guys on my tv or handhelds!

  • J_Joestar

    Any reverse traps?

    • Considering there’s only one crossdresser of all the girls, I assume there may be just one female crossdressing. Maybe.

  • new_tradition

So do idol games even have dating sim elements in it, or is it purely professional between the player and characters?

  • I thought they did already have a small group of male idols? But thank you for this; I’m digging their designs.

    • M’iau M’iaut

Those boys look familiar. Tropes know no gender!

  • TerrenceEncore Jones

I do wonder if there will be a set number of idols similar to Million Live or an steady stream of idols counting into the 100’s like Cinderella Girls. I would prefer a set stable like Million Live but whatever the people behind the game decided I am sure I will LOVE it!

  • Hyli

Major props and fervent thanks, Namco. Especially for Makoto Tachibana look-a-like Tsubasa Kashiwagi up there~<33

  • WANT. I just wish I could actually play it.

  • Ricardo C

If it were for PS3 or VITA I would have got it. But wow a Makoto look alike from Free :D

  • So who’s the Justin Timberlake of Idolmaster?

  • Aww I want to play this (>_< ) But no iphone.

  • Dystopiq

No wonder Miura came back from hiatus.

  • Vash bane

yes finally a male idol game…

    "see's mobile"

    -_- mobile? dang it

  • VeniVidiVici

All the yes. Now this I can get behind.

  • Hinataharem
  • Kevin Foong Yew Teng

why would doctors and lawyer want to become idol ?
