Arcana Heart 3: Love Max Headed To PlayStation 3 And Vita In May

By Sato . February 25, 2014 . 7:00pm

Arcana Heart 3: Love Max is an updated arcade version of the all-female fighter Arcana Heart 3 and according to this week’s Famitsu, it looks like console gamers will be getting a piece of the action. The game will be released for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.

According to the report, Arcana Heart 3: Love Max will be adding a new scenario to its story mode, called “After Story,” which will be fully voiced.

In addition to training mode, the game will also have network connectivity, where you can play against other players in player match mode, and climb the rankings in ranked matches.

Arcana Heart 3: Love Max is headed to PlayStation 3 and Vita on May 29, 2014.

    All the feels.
Now is it an update of a separate buy?

    • NeoStrayCat

Yeah, its an update version of the vanilla AH3, of course, the article doesn’t mention if it’ll be released either Retail/Digital or both, but it may go both ways though.

      • DeAndre Atchison

But if I already have the vanilla, do I have to pay more than 15 for the updated version?
This is assuming that they pull a capcom with street fighter

        • NeoStrayCat

We don’t how they’re planning to release it as yet, so we’ll have to wait and find out.

          • TsukiBaka

The game most likely will be a seperate Retail in terms of Japan release. The game is way too different now.

        • Ni ~Algidus~

it’s probably going to be a whole new game release instead of a update. while it is a uptaded version the game is too different from vanilla. balance and system changes, new moves, updated backgrounds (it’s not 4:3 anymore).
but let’s play the waiting game and see

  • buddyluv324

Hmm nice! Its been awhile since we’ve heard anything from AH3 Love Max. Assuming this is a seperate release ( being that there’s gonna be a Vita version ) Hopfully the US will get a shot at a physical copy of the game.

    • NeoStrayCat

We’ll, if anything, just hope Aksys can work their magic again like they did with the original AH3.

      • Zak Ledward

Except with actual physical copies. I had to import my copy from EU so I could enjoy my Mei-Fang Bo-*COUGH* mouse pad :|

        • NeoStrayCat

Don’t worry, I know some people probably liked that Mei-Fang mouse pad, lol. :3

      • Hound

Hopefully at a far more reasonable price.

I still love my digital copy of AH3 though. Even if I had to wait for that whole PSN hacking fiasco to end before I was able purchase it (and in the meantime Mortal Kombat 9 was released.) AH3 had one of the most unfortunate debuts.

My little sisters still prefer playing it over any other local multiplayer we own for the PS3 =x. Even over Sonic Racing, P4 Arena, SF3 Third Strike, Blazblue, multiple CoDs, etc etc..

Choosing Arcanas, Homing & parrying are fun fighting game mechanics and each character is rather unique compared to the rest of the cast.

  • But will it be localized is what I want to know.

    • NeoStrayCat

Doesn’t seem that way for now, if anything, we’ll have to wait for an official announcement for it.

      • I’m hoping so since we got the others. I heart the Arcana Heart games lol =)

  • Just Tim

*Cue Yipes, hating on this game and then shouting, “MAHVEL ZOMBIZ, BAYBEE!!!”*

    • Göran Isacson

Ha ha, I have to ask who “Yipes” is now, is he the guy who coined the whole “IT’S MAHVEL BABY” or is that unrelated to this?

      • TsukiBaka

Yipes is IFC Yipes, known for his Marvel Skills and commentary. Not sure if I can link the video, but he shouts “Fuck Arcana Heart” during an MVC2 Match

        • Göran Isacson

Ha ha, I see. Aah FGC, yours is a place of passionate, if not always reasonable, fans.

      • Just Tim

Yes to being the guy who coined, “MAHVEL BAYBEE (sic)!!! “

  • Kornelious

Wow, what a coincidence, i was thinking of buying the original on PSN. Sure hope this gets a localization

  • Firion Hope

Oh cool, I really hope it comes west, this series has always interested me

  • Xerain

Every time I see that thumbnail image used, I can’t help thinking how much I want and Ouendan 3. Tatakae!

  • Thanks. But I also need Arcana Heart 4. With new characters and graphics a la Guilty Gear Xrd, that’d be gorgeous to see.

    • leingod

That’s too expensive to ever happen, though… since it’s a pretty small studio. A shame, really.

  • Ni ~Algidus~

AH3 had the best combat in a fighting game last gen imo. and i’m really hyped to try LM. Can’t wait to play as Zenia and Weiß in this version and see how different they’re compared to vanilla

    • DeAndre Atchison

I need to see how Fiona is. Jump b can only go so far. Maybe they upgraded her damage output from truck to freight train

      • shadowbringer

heard that her homing movement (or her movement overall) got buffed, she can now do j623x (I have to see how viable it can be for clashes and otherwise). As an aside, she can now (or again, dunno) homing cancel Excalibur, and her jE apparently doesn’t knock down grounded opponents anymore (so it could be a better combo starter against grounded opponents, range-wise, than jB). I’ll miss 421C not being air-unblockable, though.
I need to see if (in case the game has a greater untechable time) it’s possible to do combos with her that weren’t in the vanilla AH3.

I knew it was going to be a thing back a few months ago…just didn’t know when. They were mentioning it in tourneys quite some time ago that it was going to be a thing. Then again, I don’t think anyone was surprised either, considering all of them have been ported in one way or another.

Now whether we get it stateside is key. The only real reason we didn’t get 2 was because of how broken it was for lag. It was a terrible port, one that only worked on emulators and fixing the lag bug.

  • VWinds

I’m hoping for a localization rather than having to import the game.

Homing is such a great mechanic that I hope gets copied by other fighters and the arcana system gives such good playstyle customization and makes hard counter-picks a thing of the past. Mechanically, the series is rock solid, unique, and fun as heck.

I wonder how Aksys feels about being complete screwed over by the PSN hack and downtime not even a full day after they released the original. Their sales had to be horrible because of that. :(

  • Crimson_Cloud

I always wanted to get the third one, but there was always something else to get instead. Loved the first one, and just when I was thinking in buying the PS3 version now, these news come. I0ll wait a bit and see if this version gets localized.

Those who played the game, how are the graphics on the HD TV? Videos around the net can’t portrait the true feeling and look like when you are actually playing. Is the quality close to BlazBlue?

    • NeoStrayCat

Yeah, the quality/graphics are as close to BB, since I’m still playing it though, and they look really good and sharp. :3

    • leingod

Gotta disagree with NeoStrayCat… graphics don’t look nearly as sharp as Blazblue’s. Sure, the art during the specials is crisp and nice, but the fighting sprites themselves are clearly a product of the PS2 era, they look pixeled and blurry.

    • shadowbringer

at least for the vanilla AH3, they look nice imo, the sprites look a bit pixellated (or blurry if you use the filter option) but the spritework itself is nice (imo) and don’t bother me, especially when playing (I don’t get distracted by the sprite quality while moving or not, at all). Can’t say much about the backgrounds especially because the vanilla AH3 (which is available atm) doesn’t have the (reworked) stages from AH1 and AH2 that LM will bring.

  • Julian Esteban Soria

Im pretty sure Im not the only one who though on Clannad after reading “After Story”….or maybe yes?

  • Aristides

Bring on the localization! :P I would love to play this on my Vita. (I hope it gets a physical release :3)

  • leingod

The game looked pixeled on the PS3, but should look gorgeous on the smaller Vita screen… hope it gets localized! Also, I wonder if this update makes the game natively 16:9 now? I’d hate to play it again with sidebars.

    • shadowbringer

unlikely, if the arcade version of LM uses the same resolution of its vanilla arcade version (the sidebars were present in the vanilla version’s port to make the resolution arcade-perfect, which is important gameplay-wise); however, the vanilla version also has an option to turn sidebars off (but doing so expands the playing field, which in turn makes the gameplay become different from its arcade version)

      • leingod

Well, even if I do understand why the sidebars are included, it’s a total turnoff for me and a also a deal-breaker. Already skipped Guilty Gear on the Vita because of that.

I love fighting games, but I’m not one of those dudes who counts frames and stuff… so I would really like the game to use the full screen, even if it’s just an option.

  • TerrenceEncore Jones

I want to play this game.
